>> ♪ ahead this morning extreme temperatures expected this weekend. it's the first heat wave of the season. caitlin roth to give us the full forecast ahead. >> still no motive in thursday's hit-and-run in the adams morgan area that hurt three people including two police officers. this morning we're hearing from a witness who describes the moment a pickup truck drove right into them. and happening this weekend, d.c. capitol pride kicks off. thousands of people are in d.c. for the parade, the block part equality march and the festival of course. we have you covered on where the big events are, what streets will be closed and how to plan. fox5 news at 7:00 starts right now. good morning and welcome. i'm annie yu.

>> and i'm caitlin roth. good morning. >> hello, i love that color. >> summer feel of things, right. >> bright like the sun these days. >> tank top weather. still very comfortable outside this morning actually. >> i love it. >> i know. >> is it me but was the moon extra brighter this morning. >> it was a full moon yesterday, last night. >> it's like a strawberry moon. >> strawberry moon, yes. so, it's still extra bright. i know, clear skies, local humidity, bright moon and bright sunshine for today so we still in a really nice air mass but temperatures will be on the rise as we go through the rest of the morning. let's take that live look outside at the capitol dome, gorgeous june 10, saturday morning. we've got clouds out there but otherwise it's going to be a day filled with sunshine. a few more clouds off toward our north. sprinkles by 81. we're starting out in the 60's for most of us this morning. even a few 50's out there so

but this could be the last time we have a comfortable morning for quite awhile. and by quite awhile i'm meaning maybe all summer because temperatures in the 50's could be long gone until september. but it's in the 60's to start you off in the district this morning. here's what to expect for the weekend ahead. near 90 today but no humidity yet. with high pressure still firmly overhead we're not going to get enough gulf moisture mixed in. it will still be a comfortable upper 80's today. yesterday refreshingly warm, temperatures hit the low to mid 80's. tomorrow that bermuda high starts to set such a little bit and we're talking more humidity creeping back in so i think it will be noticeably hotter for tomorrow, sunday's forecast. here's what to expect today. perfect afternoon by the pool. if you're going to be at the beach this weekend i'll show you your beach forecast in a little bit. it's going to be fantastic. 78 degrees in d.c. by 7:00 11:00 a.m. we warm

sunny sky. sun is very strong by midafternoon, 85 degrees. later on this afternoon we hit 90 which signals the beginning of our first heat wave of the year. significant heat wave for june, possible records being broken as we get into your work week. i'll show you the forecast coming up still ahead. annie. >> thanks caitlin. happening today, hundreds of thousands of people will be out celebrating gay pride in the district this weekend. businesses and restaurants are all decked out for on the big weekend and our anjali hemphill is live this morning from northwest with a look at what we can expect. big weekend ahead. good morning. >> reporter: yeah, annie, a lot of excitement ahead of this weekend's events and even though they haven't started yet the town has already been painted red orange yellow green, blue and purple. let me show you what i'm talking about. check out this crosswalk here. this is one of the several rainbow crosswalks painted in and around this area ahead of

can see, heading down the block here the entire block behind me is that decked out in rainbow colors as all these local businesses are getting ready to welcome thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people for yet another massive yearly celebration. now, there will be a huge parade that will begin at 21st and p around 4:30 this afternoon. it will go through dupont circle and then end around here. many folks we spoke to who are planning to attend that parade and this weekend's events say they're coming to have a great time and also send a message. >> it's a lot going on right now with the administration that i think a lot of people in the gay community are concerned about and i think it's important that we get together and raise our voices and make sure that those concerns are known. >> celebrating, you know, being lgbtq and openness and the freedom that comes with that, so, it seems like the right time to be here and really show up and represent. >> we don't talk publically about the measures that we are taking but we are aware of th

steps to make sure that doesn't occur. >> we have been hosting pride in the district for a number of years with thousands of people that come from around the region and around the country and we want them to continue to do so. our police department will be out in full force. >> reporter: that was d.c. police chief peter newsham and d.c. mayor muriel bowser talking about safety changes that they might have made coming into this event especially ahead of the recent attacks in europe. again, officials are warning and saying to everyone that if you see something, say something. again, at this point know known threats are known at this point but again, it's always good to be vigilant. there will be several street closures beginning this afternoon especially when that parade begins and also through tomorrow with those other events. if you need more information about that and the areas to avoid if you're going to be driving around the city this weekend you can check that out on our web site, fox5d.c.com. that's the latest in

northwest, anjali hemphill, fox5 local news. >> all right, thanks so much anjali. okay, and so we obviously want to see your pictures. share them with us. if you're going to be joining in on the festivities of the capitol pride parade here are some we're already looking at. tweet us all weekend long usualing #capitol pride. we see a lot of those photos coming in. keep them coming. d.c. pride with marianne here out there with her friends. the city is that decked in rainbow, everything is gay and okay, #capitol pride. keep it coming. let's take a look at some of the other top stories happening this morning. we've learned new information on the condition of two d.c. police officers hurt in a hit-and-run thursday night in the adams morgan area. one is expected to be released from the hospital soon and the other remains in serious condition. a pickup truck drove right into them as the officers worked to clear a traffic jam on 18th street. our fox5's paul wagner picks up the story from here. >> reporter: witnesses to the collision say one bicycle officer wane

side of the front of the bus while the oth more yards up the street. >> pow, boom, drug him down the street. another ddot officer was standing over there. hit her, knocked her out. we ran over to help the officer. >> reporter: derian gray was working the door at madame's organ when the crash occurred. how fast do you think they were going. >> at least 40 miles an hour. >> reporter: d.c. police chief peter newsham says the driver of the metrobus sprinted toward the officers to render first aid and he praised the care the two received. >> i can tell you this. it's in my opinion that the -- the metro employee, the d.c. fire department and the folks at the hospital saved a life last night. >> reporter: newsham says officers found an assault rifle inside the pickup and according to two sources familiar with the investigation, officers also found a 100 round magazine drum but it's unclear if it was

the suspects have been identified as brandon figures mormon of prince george county virginia and dwayne nicholas taylor also of prince george. figures mormon was the driver and has been charged with assault with intent to kill. paramedics believe the driver may have been under the influence of something and noted a pipe was that found in the truck. newsham had nothing but praise for the overs who were struck. >> they're members of this elite unit that we have down in adams morgan. our night life unit. this is a team of unbelievable officers who are -- they're devastated by this thing. this is someone in their family that was significantly injured and his prognosis like i said is unclear at this time so they're heartbroken by this. >> reporter: both injured officers are four year veterans of the force. paul wagner, fox5 local news. >> time now 7:08. a disturbing sex assault crime in the district. d.c. police want you to take a good look at

surveillance video. they say this man is wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman back in march in the 2300 block of cathedral of a northwest. the victim told police she has no memory of her whereabouts that night or consenting to sex. and d.c. police also are looking for a man who groped a woman nearly two weeks ago. this surveillance video shows the man walking up behind the woman. this happened around 9 o'clock in the evening on georgia of a northwest. the woman thankfully was not seriously hurt. police are asking anyone with information about this case to give them a call. and car break-ins are increasing in prince george's county. police say three -- rather, there have been dozens of them just this week. prince george's county police have been tweeting out photos from car break-ins along with the numbers. more than 2300 year to date. that's a nearly 15 percent increase over last year and police say to remember to always lock your car and if you can, don't leave items laying out and visible. seems easy enough but we all do forget every once in awhile. time now

june. as we look at the washington monument what a beautiful start to the day and it's comfortable still.& so nice to have these really crisp mornings. we had some last weekend which was really nice. during the middle of the week we got kind of gloomy, kind of cool again but now things have straightened right back out. it is refreshing to start with temperatures in the 60's, 66 at reagan national, we're in the 50's in many of our suburban sports. really nice morning. if you have exercise, hey, this is the time to do it because before you know it, it will be too uncomfortable to be exercising outdoors. so temperatures are on the rise. we hit the low to mid 80's yesterday. we should hit the upper 80's to around 90 for this afternoon. mid 90's are expected by sunday tomorrow and along with those mid 90's we've got a bermuda high firmly in place. that influence of the bermuda high we get every summer is the hazy, hot and humid weather so expect that moisture to increase by sunday. not much relief next week. [inaudible] record temperatures could be broken. record high temperatures monday tuesday.

really uncomfortable humidity meaning we don't cool down at night so those air be working overtime making up for what was a pretty cool past couple weeks. jet stream pattern for today. temperatures are mainly in the upper 80's its hot but it's not too humid yet and it's not uncomfortable yet. that all changes as we get into tomorrow so temperatures are soaring into the 90's really cranking that heat and this will be for sunday, monday, tuesday, even into wednesday. the ridge breaks down thursday, friday with thunderstorm chances. fox futurecast says along with the heat we have dry sunny weather to expect. even though we have a couple clouds off towards the north around the mason-dixon line today expect that we should be mainly cloud free through the afternoon. notice by five testimony futurecast showing a few sprinkles around mainly north of washington but just enough cloud cover and moisture sneaking in that it's not out of the question for a late day sprinkle. otherwise we'll have clear skies overnight. it's going to be a beautiful saturday effect it will be a

again it's going to be a hot sunday with temperatures well into the 90's. here's what you're looking at for today. perfect day to be by the pool and honestly beautiful by the beach as well. 90 degrees, mostly sunny skies. hot but not humid just quite yet. seven-day forecast, that heat wave really begin tomorrow, 94 degrees, mostly sunny skies. much more humid here as we get into monday and tuesday. look at that overnight lows only in the mid to upper 70's in the city, so really starts to get uncomfortable. air quality alert probably will be issued as the air quality does diminish pretty quickly. 96 degrees there on monday and tuesday. 90 with a chance of a thunderstorm on wednesday and then finally by the second half of the work week 83 thursday, 85 on friday. we get a little bit of relief but it's still humid with that moisture around and a front hanging up giving us that chance of thunderstorms. all right, that's the way it looks with your seven-day forecast. i'll send it over to annie. >> thanks caitlin. we are just one week away from father's day so for you last minute shoppers, we've got some gift ideas that will bring a tear to your dad's eye. joinin

this heat wave for a week now. it should begin tomorrow. itomfortably warm today. temperatures mainly in the upper 80's with a lot of sunshine. we should touch 90 degrees briefly here in washington& later this afternoon. mid 90's by sunday and more humidity so i think significantly warmer for that tomorrow as we get into that uncomfortable zone, temperatures in the low to mid 90's by midafternoon tomorrow and with more humidiy we'll have higher dewpoints so you're getting to that -- you're starting to feel that sticky feeling. you're really going to be feeling that on monday and tuesday. here's your planning forecast back home in washington. 78 degrees by 11:00 a.m., 85 by midafternoon. 5:00 p.m. temperatures right around 90 degrees, mostly sunny skies. it is hot in the sun and that is w what you want to keep in mind if you're headed out to nats park. nationals a noon game 82 degrees for the first pitch. sitting in the bright sunshine it's really hot. take breaks in the shade, lots of water if you're going to be out all afternoon really anywhere for that matter but

annie. yeah, after hearing caitlin's forecast it's going to be a great weekend to come out and attend, several of these events with clear skies, sun and plenty of rainbows forecasted, right? take a look, like this one painted behind me here in one of these crosswalks. this is one of several that have been painted in and around the dupont circle area and as you can see the entire block behind me is also decked out in rainbow colors. this will be a massive celebration as it is every year. there will be a huge parade, that begins around 4:30 this afternoon. it starts around 21st and p, heads through dupont circle and ends around here on 17th street and many folks we spoke to who are planning to attend this weekend's event say they're coming here to have a good time and also send a message. now, there's also, annie, something to think about with an event this size, safety is also a key priority this weekend and while there are no known threats d.c. police say they will be out in full force. >> there's a lot going on

hemphill, fox5 local news. >> meanwhile the water currently inside the reflecting pool at the lincoln memorial could make you sick. apparently the national park service says nearly 80 ducks were found dead in the pool in the last two weeks and officials say the deaths were caused by high levels of parasites that grew on snails inside the pool. humans that come in contact with the parasite could develop a skin rash and so the national park service says they are taking immediate action and will begin draining the reflecting pool tomorrow. it's expected to reopen on june 19th so keep that in mind, and the verizon center going green. a new partnership with wgl energy services so going green will enable the venue to use 25 percent solar energy and the power will come from a third party solar facility in frederick maryland. it's the equivalent of taking nearly 700 cars off the road for one year. time now 7:35. it's going to be a hot weekend. caitlin has bee

at some of the other top stories this morning. we've learned new information on the condition of two d.c. police officers who were hurt in a hit-and-run thursday night in adams morgan. one of those officers is expected to be released from the hospital soon. some good news there. the other remains in serious condition. a pickup truck drove right into them as the officers worked to clear a traffic jam on 18th street and fox5's paul wagner picks up the story from here. >> reporter: witnesses to the collision say one bicycle officer was near the driver's side of the front of the bus while the other was a few more yards up the street. >> pow, boom, hit him, ran over the bike, flattened the bikes, drug him down the street. another ddot avenue was standing over there. hit her, knocked her out. we ran over to help the officer. >> reporter: derian gray was working the door at madame's organ when the crash occurred. how fast do you think they were going. >> at least 40 miles an hour, at least. >> reporter: d.c. police chief peter newsham says the

driver of the metrobus sprinted towards the. >> all i can tell you this, it's my opinion that the -- the metro employee, the d.c. fire department and the folks at the hospital saved a life last night. >> reporter: newsham says officers found an assault rifle inside the pickup and according to two sources familiar with the investigation officers also found a 100 round magazine drum but it's unclear if it was loaded with ammunition. the suspects have been identified as brandon figures mormon of prince george county virginia and dwayne nicholas taylor, also of prince george. figures mormon was the driver and has been charged with assault with intent to killing. according to a recording of a d.c. fire radio transmission, paramedics believe the driver may have been under the influence of something and noted a pipe was that found in the truck. newsham had nothing but praise for the officers who were

struck. >> they're members of this elite unit that we have down at adams morgan, our night life unit. this is a team of unbelievable officers who are -- they're devastated by this thing. this is someone in their family that was significantly injured and his prognosis like i said is unclear at this time so they're heart heartbroken by this. >> reporter: both injured officers are four year veterans of the force. paul wagner, fox5 local news. >> time now 8:07. a disturbing sex assault crime in the district. the d.c. police want you to take a good look at this new surveillance video. they say this man is wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman back in march. it happened in the 2300 block of cathedral of a northwest. now, the victim told police she has no memory of her whereabouts in night or consenting to sex. and car break-ins are increasing in prince george's county. police say there have been dozens of them just this week. prince george's county police have been tweeting out photos from car break-ins along with numbers. more than 2300 year to date. that's nearly a 15 percent

police say to always lock your car and the if you can, don't leave those items laying out and visible. meanwhile a southeast d.c. man who admits he killed three women and two children in a drunk driving crash in oxon hill found out his punishment yesterday. a judge sentenced kenneth kelly to 50 years in prison. kelly was supposed to be sentenced last month but failed to show up. police arrested him days later. the judge tackled on -- tacked on an additional 25 days in prison for that offense and kelly pled guilty last march to negligent homicide manslaughter and other charges related to the 2014 crash. he admits he was speeding when he rear-ended car that was stopped at a red light. four people in the car were killed along with a passenger in kelly's car. well, you're watching fox5 news morning on this saturday. coming up, president trump will reveal his new cuba policy soon. plus, brand new pictures released in last week's deadly terrorist attack in london. we're getting a closer look at what was inside the van used in this
