here is the winter storm watch issued. you see all the watches and warnings. we will talk about that in the main forecast. most of the northern half of the viewing area not including fayetteville. goldsboro, clinton but the rest of the counties under a winter storm watch especially roxboro. we will talk about that and have the seven-day forecast in a bit. barbara: the d.o.t. has been out in force getting ready for the looming werpblt weather. john: governor mccrory is expected to address other storm preparations later this morning. gloria rodriguez is live in the emergency operations center in raleigh. good morning, gloria. gloria: the governor is expected to address what the state is doing to prepare for a possible winter storm at 10:30 this morning. yesterday we saw light snow.

it was not heavy but we are preparing for more snow. as you snow, it can cause issues on the road so d.o.t. crews have been treating interstates and major roads sense tuesday. more than 30 crews have been spreading brine or the water-salt mix in wake and durham counties. d.o.t. says they are ready for a possible big winter blast. >> we try to get as much as we can in daylight hours. they had a couple good days tuesday and wednesday to get a good base. that helps prevent some snow and ice from sticking when it comes in and we will be ready to clear anything that does stick. gloria: they say they will keep a close eye on the weather and to. as for the governor's press conference that is 10:30 broadcast live on you can go online and watch that live. we will be here all morning and

john: an 18-year-old is due in court today. investigators say williams shot henderson in the head. this is the story that was breaking yesterday morning. williams is charge recalled with assault with a deadly weapon and henderson is recovering at wakemed. barbara: an accident the u.n.c. chapel hill. we are working to learn more about the school employee who was burned while working on the issue. chopper 11 h.d. was there yesterday as crews worked to restore power. john: 20 to 5:00.

announce new visa rules today. de-marian. barbara: welcome back on thursday morning. a possible powerhouse storm is approaching. that is one story making headlines this morning. governor mccrory is expected to address the preparations for the winter weather. he will hold a press conference at 10:30 in raleigh this morning. d.o.t. has been rolling out trucks across the state to prepare the roads for a possible 1-2 punch of ice and snow. "big weather" has the force in a few minutes. a blizzard could hit other parts of the east coast. eastern kentucky, virginia, maryland and pennsylvania could get up to two feet of snow. hardest hit areas will be baltimore and washington, d.c. likely. oil prices are falling and dragging the stock market down.

stocks slumped yesterday dow down 249 points as the price of oil suffered the worst one shall day drop since september. john: president obama taking credit for the auto industry bouncing back saying general motors and chrysler would have gone out of business had he not decided to help them. he traveled to detroit yesterday to tour the north american international auto show and celebrate the resurgence of the industry. after that he noted the widespread opposition to his decision to pwaeulg bail out the auto makers. sarah palin talking about the arrest of her son. track was charged with assaulting his girlfriend. sarah palin suggests it is an example of the problems veterans endure when they return to civilian life and claims president obama doesn't properly support them. barbara: the obama administration is expected to announce plans for new visa rules for some europeans

nationals with iran, iraq, sudan and syria. two were targeted because the islamic state has seized significant territory there. iran and sudan are designated as states sponsors of terrorism. homeland security is expected to outline lineline how it will phase in the rules. such a bill in the u.s. is stopped by the senate democrats. harry reid says republicans refuse to allow democrats to offer amendments to the bill one cover put republicans on the spot forcing them to take sides for or against donald trump. trump has called for traditional banning muslims from coming into the u.s. john: affluenza teen ethan couch could be back in texas within texas. he is been challenging the extradition. paperwork was filed to sop the immigration proceeding. authorities say he and his mom crossed into mexico in december

exclusive inte that is not the hollywood that i want to leave behind. john: you can see more of his exclusive interview with robin roberts on "good morning america" at 7:00 right after "eyewitness news." barbara: the navy is partly powered by beef fat. it will be used in a new carrier strike group they call it a milestone to easing reliance on foreign oil. they are the centerpiece of the great green fleet part of the initiative to draw 50% of power from alternative energy. john: the final run for the current version of the s.a.t. exam is this weekend. thousands of students will sit, squirm or stress through the nearly four-hour reading, writing and math test. a revamped version makes its debut in march. the college board says it will focus more on what they are learning in the classroom.

commute we will see the wintry mix moving in and it will be messy tomorrow. live look at radar and we are not seeing anything on the most powerful radar in the carolinas. we look into downtown raleigh and temperature running at 28, dew point 23, 81% humidity, winds calm, seven-day always on. live look into r.d.u. and 30. 72% humidity. north wind three miles an hour. we are dry now. we have high clouds working through and snowflakes last evening and they are gone. we zoom out and i want to show you all of the warnings from here up -- winter storm warnings west of us in the mountains. we are under a winter storm watch so we are watching the situation and national weather service has not issued a warning for our area yet. they are waiting to see the development of the storm. i think later this morning they will issue winter storm warnings or advisories. if you follow me on twitter they come out as soon as it is issued.

d.c. is kind of gray. they could see 24 inches of snow through the mountains of virginia. winter storm headed in the next several hours. by 7:00 tonight we are clear, we have high clouds working through and nice day today, lots of sunshine. we will stop this. tomorrow morning 6:00 a.m. you will notice by 6:00 a.m. we are seeing the leading edge of the precipitation. i think most of the overnight is rain free but by tomorrow morning we see snow west of here that pushes in and notice the pink, ice accumulation could be a half inch with this. if you are down south these folks, if you are watching in wayne county and toward fayetteville you are not under any watches because it should be all rain. maybe a little freezing rain to start, then rain, then this pushes north and we have heavier rain. notice the temperature into the upper 30's to change freezing rain and ice to rain, melting off some of the ice. then the cold air wraps in on the back side and this area

will bring us another round of snow showers. it looks like one to three inches possible in the triangle but you could see several inches north. that is all subject to change. today we have the high pressure in place and that gives us clear skies and a nice day. forecast is like there the rest of today. 42 henderson, 41 rocks, 45 fayetteville. mostly sunny, warmer. tonight temperatures across the region down into the 20's for overnight lows. i put in the snowflake picture that. is a wintry mix late more toward sunrise tomorrow. 26 henderson, 31 the overnight low in fayetteville. first alert seven-day forecast powered by accuweather, tomorrow into saturday a messy situation shaping up. tomorrow that wintry mix changing to rain and then saturday snow as the system exits the region. could see accumulations. by sunday it melts and we go 40's sunday with sunshine.
