troopers have not said what led to the crash. fire damages an apartment in raleigh. this is off of edwardsville -- edwards mill road. it was a possible kitchen fire. a raleigh family dealing with a crisis after fire damages their home. this happened at 5:30 just inside the beltline. you can see from chopper 11 hd that there was a lot of smoke from the large home. we are told no one was hurt. firefighters did rescue a dog. it is ok. an electrical problem the fire. steve: a man shot by raleigh police is getting helped by the north carolina naacp. it happened the same day that thousands turned out for the funeral of kiel jenkins -- nokia lincolns -- akiel denkins. three investigations into

the officer contests that he struggled and pulled a gun. the naacp is helping the family conduct their own inquiry. attorney irv joyner says there are too many questions left unanswered by the initial autopsy and police report issued yesterday. >> there is a question about the gun, whether the gun had fingerprints on it, and what other evidence is there that he was armed? we have witnesses indicating that he was not. steve: joyner says the family has planned to have an independent autopsy done on the body. the fbi investigation could take months. you can keep track of the shooting online at, you can read the officers version of the events and the

tisha: a raleigh mother is speaking out after people who witnessed her son's killing refused to tested i. edith winger told a judge that she understood why the da had to offer voluntary manslaughter deals to the two man. the prosecutor said there were two men responsible for the the shooting death, but the witnesses were too afraid of gangs involved that they would not come to court. 27-year-old isaiah owens will serve no more than 12 years for killing anthony weiner and jon jones will serve a maximum of 8.5 years. the two men thought that owens had killed wiener's brother, but they were wrong. steve: schappell 11 hd -- chopper 11 hd over the scene. four people are facing charges. a search warrant shows the

one of the robbers threatened to shoot three tellers in the bank. tisha: funny money showing up from creekmore to fayetteville. police were called to the cvs and walgreens after counterfeit 100 dollar bills were passed. police want to question the man in this photos. the counterfeit money has been passed in raleigh, durham, wait for us, and creekmore since the beat -- wake forest, and creekmore since the beginning of last month. steve: these managed to steal nearly $5 million in gold bars along i-95 in golson county last year. the men a gps device to track a big rig and used a remote control to set off pepper spray inside the truck, forcing the drivers to pull over. newly released court documents say the accused ringleader took more than a year to organize the highest and then he spent his share on the cash on homes and cars and boats and jewelry. he was taken into custody

his friend went to police. tisha: a community watch leader under arrest on drug charges in fayetteville. the woman says she is innocent. fred barnes joins us live. >> gloria gutierrez is a pretty familiar name around fayetteville police at quarters. she has been the community watch courtney and her in her neighborhood for the past five years, but she says yesterday crime knocked on her front door. she said she is a victim of mistaken identity and not a drug dealer. the 63-year-old woman was arrested after narcotics officers say a box with three pounds of marijuana was delivered to her home. she is charged with possessing with intent to sell pot and maintaining a dwelling to selling controlled substance. sitting in her living room that has been converted into an office, gutierrez said she had no idea what was in the box or

>> i did not look at the box. i took the box and set it down. i don't know whose name was on it. i did not look at it. i cannot find my glasses. i am not a drug dealer. greg: gutierrez is free on $50,000 unsecured bond. she has another court date later this month and she vows to continue fighting to clear her name. police have not commented on the case or her arrest other than to say that the narcotic officers tracked the package to her home address. we will keep you updated on the case in the coming days. greg barnes, abc 11 eyewitness news. steve: duke energy is firing back at state environmental officials after the state environmental utility put them on notice.

officials say a preliminary assessment indicate it is not the murder weapon. the knife was supposedly found by someone during the demolition of his home in 1998 and turned over to a now-retired lapd officer. the knife came to attention of police in the last month or simpson was acquitted on murder charges. the knife used in the murders has never been found. tisha: a jury is deliberating is in 2008. steve: astronaut scott kelly is talking about his year in space and he is describing how

dennis is an employee here at abc 11. he is one of our engineers. thanks for the pretty shot, dennis. setting sun, clearing skies, and bouncing off the trees. temperatures on the cool side, mid and maybe lower 50's. we warmed to the upper 50's a bit but next week temperatures surge above average of 60 degrees. it will feel like spring around here and nice weather on the way. temperature still in the mid 40's. big range in temperatures across the region. it is in the mid-40's at the airport. we have clouds overhead. clear now. much cooler, 34 at the rocky mount wilson airport. down to the south, still chilly. 34 goldsboro while it is 39 at southern pines.

fade away and the temperature should even out so we are all in the upper 20's. generally, low and mid 30's overnight. it will be colder to the east. 33 or so at 7:00 a.m. temperatures are going to warm up into the low to mid 50's in the afternoon hours and we will see a decent day overall. low and mid 50's, a little below average, but not bad. this front goes off the coast. it brought us rain last night. sunshine in the morning, clouds through the daylight hours tomorrow for sure. this cold front disturbance will move over read rapidly tomorrow. another shot at light rain, probably 1/10 of an inch of rain. that is gone by sunrise sunday. for the third time this week, we are sleeping. high pressure builds back in for sunday. still a little on the cool side.
