with any rain. taking a look at our live first alert doppler, we have dry conditions. nothing over the atlantic waters that we need t worry about at least not throughout the morning hours. however, we are dealing with some fog across some areas especially across the interior. right now visibility down to almost half a mile down to homestead, about 6 to 8 miles across western portions of broward county and only about a mile visibility right now in pompano beach. so give yourself some extra time, be careful out there. keep the loww beams on, do not put the high beams on when you're stug out in the fog. stars temperatures are concerned, we're comfortably in the 60s. 64 in kendall and homestead. oakland park the school spot, tempatures near your area around 63 degrees. so next few hours we'll deal with the fog. you can see the fog settling in. temperatures will remain in the 70s at least for the first half of the day.

the sear is on for two women who allegedly drugged their dates and then be robbed them. coral gables police tell us the pair met up with their victims at high end restaurants in the heart of miracle mile. erika glover has that story. >> reporter: this morning officers here in coral gables need your help finding thee two women responsible for alledgedly drugging two men and getting aw with their rolex watches, cash and a firearm. officers want to know if you recognize this woman. she's described as a short black woman with long black hair and at that time tattoos down her torso and back. one victim claims he was at a restaurant when the woman struck up a conversation. they had aew drinks, went to the man's home and continued drinking. once inside, he became

when he woke up, the woman us a gone and so was his rolex. wednesday night, a woman struck up a conversationed a the second victim says they had a few drinks, went home and continued drinking. this time the woman got away with his rolex, cash and a firearm. the second woman i described as a short black female with long black kair and tattoos down her back. she was wearing a red dress and red bottom high heels with a clutch purse. coming up in the next half hour, you'll hear from people living in this community who say they're worried for what could happen next. anyone with information is asked to call crime stoppers, that number 305-471-tips. erika glover, nbc 6 news. joaquin el chapo guzman, the infamous head of a mexican drug cartel, he is now back in prison this morning after he escaped from there six months ago and the dea says they are extremely pleased in this country. on their twitter account, the

government on nabbing guzman and say they salute the b bavery involved this his capture. he went back into custody after a shoot-out with mexican marines. the mexican navy says th marines acting on a tip raided thathome. five suspects were killed and sikts others arrested in that shoot-out. we'll have a full report on the story coming up in our next half hour of news. a woman driving through a brick he will brick he will neighborhood has lost her life after her car spunun out of control.fiery after math was caught on video. have a look at those nameflames. cops think the woman's luxexus slammed into parked cars and then burst into flames. sirens and alarms rang as rescue workers worked to put the flames out.

that. >> i opened up the door thinking it was the smoke detector being tested and then i seen all the flames and i knew the door would explode, so i left. >> reporter: lorain headily lost her two dogs in the fire. >> they were great with kirds and they love people, but i've had them since puppies. >> reporter: it broke out about 2:30 in the top unit of the apartment building. firrighters responded within minutes, but by then a large portion of the building was already fully engulfed. investigators think a potn a hot stove may have caused the fire. this unit suffered the most damagel all four are uninhabitable right now. a third dog also died in the fire. nobody was hurt. some of the people displaced by the fire are being put up in a building in this neighborhood. and it's owned by the same man who owns that building again investigators say they don't find anything suspicious about this incident, they're calling

i'm steve litz, nbc 6 broward deputies this rning hoping some new surveillance video will help them catch a morseful robber. investigators say this man held up a clerk at a little caesar's to buy his kids' christmas presents. this little caesar's. he said he was sorry for doing this, but his kids need christmas. as you see here, the robber is dresseded all in dark clothing, but witnesses say he had gold teeth and a mustache, as well. if you know anything about this, you can call broward county kril stoppers. the mum is 9number is 954-493-tips. a penske moving truck lost its load of shoes when it you overturned near sun life stadium. the truck driver says he was bringing in the shoes in new orleans so they could ultimately be given out to people in need. the mess is cleaned up now and

deputies are looking for three people in a triple murder that may have ties to south florida. investigators in lakeland believe a van seen leaving the scene of a crime could be headed for miami. police are searching for tli men ssn leaving a home in a white commercial van. older modede pord had some writing on the side and

of the fatal shooting that left three people it ted ondead on lakeland drive. this morning a father near tampa is under investigation after his toddler took a wild ride along a busy highway. officers responded to a 911 call reporting a toddler trying to enter traffic. the 3-year-old took off, get this, on his motorized toy truck and he saided up on the roadway by cutting through some yards. a good a man tear used a blanket to cover the boy. he was only wearing a shirt and diaper. the boy's fatater told witnesses his son got out of the house by climbing on a chair and unlocking the door. closer to home, one statue in ft. myers is causing quite a stir. the city's mayor has unveileded a series of sculptures in the downtown part there on thursday. the piece in question is advertised as depicting a parallel between man and dog as they, quote, mark their

but some say this public art is not it is playingdisplaying the right message. >> i don't believe that is something that should be in a public viewing. >> i actually think it looks like a cigar. >> the graphic display had some people taking action covering the man's private parts there with tape. 6:12. a dry saturday morning. live first alert doppler picking up on a few showers over the atlantic waerksters, but everything will continue to push towards the north and east. dry conditions across the keys, as well. different from what we saw yesterday at this time. we woke up to plenty of shower activity yesterday morning. so right now temperatures near 67 degrees in ft. lauderdale and in miami. comfortably in the mid-60s as

opa-locka. pembroke pines seei temperatures right now around 63 degrees. so it looks like we're not really dealing with any clouds and it's ptly cloudy, mostly clear right now, but we are dealing with some fog out there. and as a matter of fact, there is a dense fog advisory for miami-dade, broward and palm beach until the:00 a.m. so keep that in mind if you're heading out. here's what we see right now. plenty of sunshine for most of the day once the fog does lift. and that will be enough to warm us up into the mid to low 80s.record set for this date was 84 degrees, so if we do reach 84 later this afternoon, we may be tying records. some of us could possibly even beat records that were set behind. we'll have a southwest wind later today, so it will warm us right up. so low pressure still remains over the atlantic waters. there is a system over south florida that will allow possibly forome of the showers to develop later this afternoon. but more than anything, the moisture is in place and that is

this is the front that we continue to keep an eye on, the one right now across the mississippi valley providing plenty of rain across portions of the gulf coast in to mississippi. that is a system that will cool us down for the start of the workweek. but up until then, we have to deal with these warm temperatures. and take a look at these temperatures right now, in the tennessee valley, down to the southeast, 40s and 50s. 60s and 70s for us here across florida. the cold air still remains behind these mild temperatures. there is that front bringing the two air masses. as the front continues to push toward the east, we'll see the temperatures cooling down eventually reaching out area but not the for a few days. in the meantime, though, we're still expeing a high risk of rip currents along the atlantic beaches. and it will feel warm, mid-80s. humidity will make it feel like the upper 80s across some area. temperatures will remain in the 80s, that front that i mentioned swings through sunday, cooling us down for monday.

claiming certain models do not accurately track heartalie morales reports. >> reporter: it's one of the season's most popular holiday gifts, a gadget to help you keep that new year's resolution of getting in to shape and staying healthy. but now the makers of fitbit are coming under fire. >> i'm a mom. i like to work t, i like to be fit. >> reporter: kate has a ph.d. in fizz rehab. and is o o of three people suing the company. claiming fitbit's heart rate monitor doesn't work. and that thecompany's ads telling customers every beat counts are misleading. >> it says my heart rate was only 114 and that did not make sense. because 114 is what i would be if i was walking on the treadmill, but not really working hard. >> reporter: after comparing the fitbit heart rate monitor to equipment at the gym, she knew something was wrong and spoke to customer service.

my fault, i was wearing it wrong or i was using it wrong. and she said it's not really meant to track your heart rate all of the time. >> reporter: in a statement, a a. spokesperson for fitbit says we do not believe in case has merit, fitbit stands behind our heart rate oig technology and plans to vigorously defend the lawsuit. and the company stresses fitbit tracke are designed to provide meaningful data and not intended to be scientific or medical devices. >> the truth is it doesn't count every beat. it can't. it's wildly inaccurate. >> reporter: kate's lawyers are seeking a class action status saying the company is treating customers unfairly. noting that in order to even use the device, you must log ito fitbit's website and register the heartrate monitor after you've already bought it. >> you can't even use it as a watch to tell what time it is unless you register it on the website and that's when you have

>> reporter: that registration includes an agreement that kate's lawyers say prevents customers from taking certain legal action against the company. >> they're told that they're bound by this arbitration clause and class action. well, that's unfair. >> reporter: fitbit says their agreement has already been upheld in a california court and according to their website, customers have 30 days to opt out of the arbitration agreement. and while manynysers are stepping up to support the device, lighting up social media and posting four and five star reviews on amazon, others are telling this perfect holiday gift to take a hike. >> that was natalie morales reporting. the lawsuit is just the latest headache for fitbit. the company's stockas dropped 20% after their latest product left investors under well him pd. still ahead here on nbc 6 --

saturday morning with meteorologist erika delgado, she has south florida's most accurate first alert recast. some cooler weather maybe on the way? >> cooler weather on the way, butefore it gets here, we have to deal with@the warm temperatures unfortunately. ut it's the weekend so i think we'll be okay. right nowive first alert doppler is looking good. that includes the keys. dry conditions. these showers moving nordtoward the north and east. however, something that we do ed to worry about right now is the fog. right now there is plenty of fog out there. visibility down to a mile and a half in kendall, less than half a mile in homestead and also a mile in pembroke pines. there is a dense fog advisory in effect until 9:00 a.m. for palm beach, broward county and that goes for miami-dade, as well. so why the fog? we have moisture in place. take a look at the winds, calm right now. that is helping trap the

erika glover, nbc 6 news. and this morning the u.s. drug enforcement administration is congratulating mexico for capturing joaquin el chapo guzman. kirk gregory reports how guzman ended up back behind bars yesterday after a gun battle and six months on the run. >> reporter: el chapo guzman is now behind bars again. he arrived at a jail in mexico city. xican president enrique nieto held a press conference confirming the capture of fugitive drug lord el chapo guzman. >> translator: this morning in the municipality of sinaloa, members of government security institutions achieved the capture of joaquin guzman. >> reporter: mexican drug lord had been on the run after a daring july 11th escape.

from a mexican prison. the president called the recapture an achievement that was the result of the coordination of our armed forces. the mexican army, mexican navy, federal police, the country's attorney general's office, and the center for investigation and national security. the navy statement said that marines stormed in to a home in the town of los mochis before dawn. mexican soldiers had surrounded the home after a neighbor reported gun toting men inside the resididce. they were fired on from inside the building. five suspects wereilled and six others arrested the navy said. guzman, leader of the sinaloa drug cartel and master of underground tunnels, set off a manhunt ononjuly 11th, 2015 when he escaped into a hole in his shower at a prison near mexixi city. authorities said he fled through a mile ng tunnel on a motor bike that led to a residential

guzman had escaped from prison once before in 2001. that time authorities said he escaped hidden in a laundry cart. kirk gregory, nbc news. and closer to home, we have ll the latest on a car theft that saw a south florida child get taken for a scary ride. watch this video as a man enters the sunoco gas station on west sample road in coral springs thursday night leaving his 6-year-old stepdaughter in the car with the keys inside. seconds later, another perss comes up tq the car and eventually got in and drove off with that child inside. the car chief dropped the child off about a mile away. she was okay. police are still looking for the car and for that thief. investigators alson the hunt for a trio who attacked a couple of college students with a baseball bat to steal their suv. take a look at the damage here, their mazda windshield shattered during that assault. it happened in oakland park at a

and i-95. the victim claims surveillance video caught one attacker in the store. they're hoping that it will help police make a quick arrest. and the boy accused of a violent florida city murder will stay behind bars now until his trial. >> so you were indicted it looks like by grand jury for first degree murder? sir, how old are you? >> 15. >> you heard it there, just 15 years old. christopher walker accused of murder. a miami-dade county judge held him without bond just hours after new york police found him and sent him to south florida. cops think walker is responsible for 14509ing in shooting into a car back in october killing a 17-year-old girl and hurting who boys who were with her. still ahead here on nbc 6, a police officer ambushed while sitting in his patrol car. find out what the suspected attacker is saying this morning after he confessed to shooting

new today, an egyptian hospital sys two austrians and a sweed stabbed at a resort will be okay. the official identified the victims as two 72-year-old women and a 27-year-old. two suspected militants attacked the trio at a hotel late yesterday. security forces shot both stabbers, killing one of them and wounding the other before

egypt has been battling an insurgency based in the northern sinai peninsula that grew following the 2013 military overthrow there. new images there of a police officer ambushed at close range by a man with a gun. and just as chilling are the implications that it may be yet again an isis inspired act of violence. steve patterson reports from philadelphia. >> reporter: the chilling surveillance images show the moment a gunman dressed in a traditional white arab robe opened fire on a philadelphia police officer at point blank range shooting at least 11 times. 33-year-old police officer jesse hartnett was hit three times in the arm. as the guan ran away, he kept shooting but the officer managed to follow and return fire. >> we have an officer shot. >> reporter: the suspect was

>> now custody. >> reporter: the surveillance video does not show the circumstances leading up to the shooting, but officials say it was completely unprovoked. police identified the suspect as edward archer, and said he confessed that the shooting was inspired by islam. archer also pledged his allegiance to the islamic state. >> he has confessed to committing this cowardly act in the name of islam. according to him, he believes that the police defend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the koran. >> reporter: archer is 30 years old from just outside philadelphia. he has prior convictions on simple assault and firearms charges. law enforcement sources say the fbi is looking at archer's phone and computer records. and trips to saudi arabia in 2011 and egypt in 2012, but noththg to suggest travel was terror related. and the handgun he used to shoot hartnett was a stolen police firearm. officer hartnett is a five year

also served in the coast guard. philadelphia's police commissioner said it's miraculous he survived. >> it's both confounding and astonishing that he was able to escape it. >> reporter: hartnett's dad says he's proud of his son. >> he's a tough guy and an excellent philadelphia fficer. >> reporter: officer hartnett is recovering from a brokenrm and serious nerve damage, but is expected to make a full recovery. south florida, the weekend is finally pop us. 6:42. things looking pretty good broward county and miami-dade as far as the rain is concerned. as we put things into motion for you, we're seeing a few showers over the atlantic waters. nothing we need to worry about. we are waking up to a calm w wnd and it will be out of the southwest as the day goes on

heading down to the keyey things looking really nice right now. quiet across much of the bahamas. right now temperatures around 67 in miami, very similar to what we saw yesterday. 63 opa-locka and kendall and 61 in pembroke pines. so we're dealing with no rain and temperatures comfortably in the 60s, but we are dealing with fog. there is a dense fog advisory in effect until 9:00 a.m. especially across interior areas. taking a look at the headlines, series of fronts will come through and that will start the end of the weekend, but in the meantime, warm and humid days are ahead. changes are headed our way once those fronts begin to move through, but we won't see those changes until at least this upcoming workweek. let's take a look at the winds. i mentioned the fog. they are calm pretty much across the board as the day goes on, though, we will see wind out of the south and southwest. and that will help us warm up as

taking a look at satellite imagery, i mentioned the fog. other than that things are looking okay as far as clouds are concerned. a very quiet start to our saturday. so taking a look at your forecast, if you're heading to the key, temperatures will be in the mid to low 80s. a warm one is in store for us thanks to the southwest wind. just the chance of an isolated shower or two later in the afternoon. let's take a look at the bigger picture. i mentioned a front that was vowly butvow ly slowly moving in. this trough together with moisture in the air is allowing for the fog to develop. but if i move out of the way here, we'll see the next system that will be affecting us here in the next few days to come. we are watching that cold front pushing toward the east already providing shower activity for the gulf coast and mississippi sally. hat system will bring us major changes, but it won't arrive until at least sunday come monday. in the meantime, though, we'll deal with the moisture that will

right now still dry air over the florida straits and across the bahamas. but moisture will settle in and that will help the fog throughout the morning hours and we will be feeling pretty humid out there. and temperatures will be feeling like the upper 80s. so that is one of themain threats today, the heat and rip currents. so keep that in mind if you have plans to be at the beach. warm and humid days ahead. take a look at the temperatures, back into the mid-80s. a record was set of 84 for this day in miami two years ago, so if we reach that 8 # gli mark, we'll be tieing that record. some of us might be warmer and could beat the record. warm and humid all weekend. isolated showers today. better chance for tomorrow the front number one moves through and then take a look at the change. back to the 70s each afternoon, lower humidity come mid week and overnight temperatures will be back into the 50s and 60s exactly where we should be for this time of year. >> we like that. well, pop star justin bieber

the search is on this morning for two women who allegedly drug their dates and then robbed them. coral gables police say the pair met up with their victims at restaurants on miracle mile. one suspect is described as a short black woman with long hair and tattoos on her torso and back. and police are looking for a man who stole a car with a child inside. it happened at the soco gas station on west sample road in coral springs on thursday night. the car chief dropped the child off about a mileaway. she was not hurt. and several hollywood families don't have a home this
