two more on the loose. >> we were watching it live as trina and adam, they were covering it. pretty amazing here because it started like you said at lighthouse point. then after a police chase that was going on throughout the neighborhood or so. then we saw them bail out of one vehicle and two took off. they kind of split upp from the other two suspects. two jumped out of that vehicle. you saw them jump into another blue vehicle. this is a live look of chopper 6 over the scene. this is where the perimeter is set up. between 45th avenue and 46th avenue and northwest 22nd street. this is happening in oakland park where two guys have been taken into custody. adam kuperstein, he has been all over this. he was watching it unfold and covering it t r us. tell us a little bit more about what you saw. >> i want you to go back and look athat happened ten minutes ago.
this was the bailout. you have two suspects in this vehicle. it's a honda suv. they were trying to get away from police. they stop outside of a home, go in different directions. one officer chasing. they go behind a hous into these trees and then they'll split into different ways. theop has to pick one to chase and he does. this was just about ten minutes ago out in oakland park. they're just behind houses. there's peop in their front yards watching this thing unfold. one guy going up at the top of your screen. the other one reverses course and goes down. the guy decided to choose him to chase. he eventually would catch up to that suspect. this suspect on the other hand was evading police for a while. eventually he goes over the fence of a house. in fact, there was a whole family, looked like four or five people, out in front of their front yard ashis guy goes into the front area. looks into the trash can.
can and hide. then that suspect eventually got caught by a caka canine police officer. as we go back to the live picture from chopper 6, you can see that scene under control. now more officers responding to thecene out there in oakland park. there are two suspect who are not in custody. four total suspects who were being chased. you saw two of them got into that car. those two were taken inino custody. the other two not yet. they're still looking for two more suspects. why? police have not told us why they were trying to take them into custody, but those two were arrested. again, two more suspects are out there and on the loose still being chased down by the cops. >> when it started about 5:30, there were four suspects in one vehicle.
was driving a stolen car at the time. they went on a pursuit. right now the police right behind them. then they stopped at an apartment building. they got out and ran into a parking lot. two of the other suspects got into another vehicle, stole that one, then t ty got into another chase. that's where it ended in o oland park. those two were apprehended, but the other two have not been caught yet. >> that is correct, jackie. we will continue to follow this breaking news story. we will have a lot more throughout the evening. be sure to go to our nbc 6 news and weather app for the very latest. moving on right now, tonight we are hearing from the mother of a 14-year-old boy accused of accidentally shooting and killing a friend while the two were aying with a gun. >> willard shepard is live from outside the attorney's office in coral gables with more on wt
>> reporter: this woman beside herself this has taken place, talking about the pain not just her family, but the family that has lost their child as well in all of this. some of this may have had media. >> keep the guns away fro the kids. >> porter: 14-year-old rhodes was not in class this monday, killed over the weekend. police say by a friend who came to visit. sources told nbc 6 it appeared the 14-year-old charged with manslaughter had been attempting to take photos with the weapon to post on social media when the weapon went off, killing rhodes. police who responded found rhodes on the couch in the living room. the family of the 14-year-old who we are not identifying called this a terrible tragedy, but not a crime. >> he is not feeling good.
it's hitting me two ways. it's my son and for the other side. >> believe, number one, it was an accident. it's a atragedy. i said it before and i'll say it again. guns and children should not ever, ever, ever be together. >> reporter: the sister of the teen a arested on her facebook page made posts indicating she was concerred her brother would onon day discover that guns are not toys. the grandmother of the teen who died today expressed her pain. the mother of the teen charged spoke about reaching out to the rhodes family. >> i i sorry for what happened. >> reporter: so this mother clearly in a lot of pain when we spoke with her a sho time ago. her attorney mr. michaels is doing his investigation. he certainly believes this s
he's not happy with the way the police department at miami gardens initially contacted his client and questioned him. he's worried this child could be charged as an adult and the teen will be in court tomorrow. we're live tonight in coral gables. now to an update on the school bus that crashed in broward county and came to a stop iside a line of trees. davie police say 18 high schoolers wer on board when the accident. one is in the hospital with minor injuries. officers think the bus was coming from west@ broward high school when a camaro sideswiped the bus and sent it into the trees. >> reporter: the woman accused of kidapping a baby at gunpoint made her first appearance in court today. a judge refusing to grant her bond after police say she and a teen cousin snatched a
bobby brooks is live with more. >> reporter: good evening. here is the godod news. the two suspects, they're been caught. they're behind bars. the baby has been reunited with family and she's all smiles. let's take a look. it's a harsh reality for 23-year-old stephanie agustin. she's accused of kidnapping a baby with a gun over the weekend near ft. lauderdale. now the charges she faces could land her in jail for the rest of her life. >> as to count 3 and count 5, bobo are punishable by a potential of up to life in prison. >> reporter: she was granted no bond. her family came to court to see afterwards. stephanie's mom could only shake her head. it's a tough time for this family. agustin is accused of stealing her cousin's baby, a 2-month-old.
cousin, a 14-year-old who was arrestededn miami. the good news today is the baby at home with mom, with her family. since she's been reunited, we're told it's been all smiles. >> she's smiling. she's beautiful. she's been cooing and babbling all morning long. as soon as she saw her mom, she just lit up. >> reporter: over the weekend, bso deputies say the 2-month-old was kidnapped by the duo and taken to orlando. agustin was caught at ft. pierce and taken -- the baby was taken to the hospital. >> it's hard. she mad her miake and she has to go through it. >> repoer: back out live here. the question is why would stephanie take this little baby. we asked the family that question. they say at this point they have no idea. reporting live in ft. lauderdale, bobby brooks.
a fleet of cyclists become the first to ride across a south florida expressway that was shut down for months. the venetian causeway now open after a massive multimillion dollar renovation. >> reporter: that may not seem like a big deal to you folks at home, butt is a major deal for folks who live in this area and cyclists. hundreds, if not thousands, of cyclists rode up the venetian causeway. the drawbridge was released all together. this rehaul, if you will, was sorely overdue. the reopening has generated a lot of excitement. a honk of happiness perhaps. after nine months the venetian causeway gets the green light
>> the bridge was in bad condition. >> reporter: a big enough event for miami-dade's mayor to celebrate with venetian causeway residents and avid cyclists. the mayor became a pedaling politician. >> this was built back in the 20s. thigh did things a little bit different and a little bit better back then. made things beautiful. >> reporter: the 90-year-old bridge the oldest causeway in the state is an icon known for its beauty and unity. >> you can't run anywhere else in miami where you have two sides of water next to you. you see friends around here all the time running and riding. it's a community. it brings people together. >> reporter: not exactly jumping for joy, but head over heels or
the inconvenieiece outweighed any benefits. >> i do a lot of walking. >> reporter: while these necessary frustrations will certainly continue, a study was commissioned for repairs for the rest of the causeway, which could make in a no-go again. >> the headache begins again. >> there are worse things in life. >> reporter: that nearly $3 million study that was commissioned should be completed sometime next year in 2017. depending on what it reveals, parts or all of the causeway could once again be shut down. it depends on what that study reveals. for now, it is open and people are enjoying. a fiery scene right in front of one woman's home after her car catches fire. exploded inside.
here in south florida. our temperatures are headed into the 80s. i'll let you know what to expect this week. this is video of a police chase in broward county. two suspects right now are in police custody. police are still searching for two more. this is the bailout in oland park. >> this is the 3800 block of northwest 19th you see them right there running in between homes and everywhere else. excuse me, 4501 northwest 23rd street. eventually after the two split here, they were eentually caught. both of them are in custody, but we understand two more suspects remain at large. we'll continue to follow this
lot more for you. welcome back. we continue to follow that breaking news out of oakland park where a police chase has just ended. >> let's go live to marissa bagg bagg. two suspects have been apprehended, but there's still two on the loose? >> reporter: that's right. one of the two suspects that has been arrested is right here behind me. we're on northwest 44th avenue and northwest 22nd street. just a little bit north of lauderhill. it is just a zoo here of law enforcement. we have state troopers.
lauderdale police. this all startedith a stolen vehicle i believe out of lighthouse point with at least four suspects in a vehicle turning into a police chase as law enforcement was chasing them. they apparently bailed out of that original car that they stole. four suspects. >> it's not really clear why he was there. >> reporter: then we saw two of those suspects approach an apartment building. it appears that they then hopped in a van in there. we don't know if that was a stolen vehicle or if that was a vehicle that was known to them, but they took off in that van. i believe we do have chopper video of when those two suspects bailed out of that van in this area where we are and then took off running. went running through several streets. two suspects went off on their own, jumped in a van, bailed out of that van, and then went running through backyards,
we did see one police officer take off running after them at top speed trying to stop these two suspects. then that one officer was able to takee down one of those suspects. that other suspect kept running. we saw him hopping over fences and in people's backyards trying to hide. then we did see a canine officer meet up with that other suspect and take hiiinto custody. four suspects here involved in a stolenn car preliminarily. two of them now having been arrested in this neighbooood here along northwest 44th avenue. the other two we belie are still being pursued, but we're waitinggo hear from law enforcement the latest on that. this is still a developing story. we'll bring you the latest as
i'm marissa bagg, nbc 6 news. i have no complaints about south florida's weather. this weekend it was greae. chilly at night, but very comfortable in the afternoons. now even our nigs are not going to be that cold during the course of this week as we'll be in for a warming trend. nothing on the radar right now and a beautiful view from the holiday everglades park. the first alert cam at this time of the day very, very beautiful. the reflection of the sky there on the water and just a slight ripple. beautiful afternoon, beautiful end to the day in south florida. here are your weather headlines. indeed a warming trend under way this week. today we were in the upper 70s. beginning tomorrow we'll be in the 80s. the next front is expected to stall near lake okeechobee this weekend. our rain chances will remain low.
72 in miami and ft. lauderdale. opa-locka. kendall sitting at 71. the winds are really light. you can see that we've got sea breezes here on both coasts. the wind converging towards the middle of the peninsula. if this was a summer day and we had enough moisture, we would be seeing thunderstorms develop right around here across the everglades with a breeze coming onshore from both directions across the state. the winds will die down. less. the high will block the progress of the fronts headed our way. the next one to come close to us will be near lake okeechobee on thursday. it's not expected to make it to south florida. weather. we'll probably by wednesday start to see some high clouds
