>> tonight, more than a dozen injured in the fiery stunt. today's incident happened in delray beach. >> thh's where we find jamie tonight. skramy, how is that performer doing right now? >> reporter:r:e's going to be okay. he's got a few burns, though. the schoo district released a statement about the incident. tomorrow morning, the hopital and the victim will hold a press conference. but earlier nbc 6 spoke exclusively with the victim from his bedside. students packed the bleachers inside the tlantic community high school gym for a pep rally with an unexpected and explosive end. the performer in the center lights up in flames, after another performer attempts to jump over him. nbc 6 decided not to show the disturbing video. how are you doing right now? >> i'm if. i'm good. >reporter: ricky charles, the man injured, spoke by phone

forbidden inside our building. >> the prqncipal signs off. we're looking at what the approval process was withhisis one. >> reporter: the school district is taking this incident very, very seriously. tomorrow morning we'll hear more from the victim about what happened and his injuries. nbc 6 news. >> jamie, thank you. happening right now, deputies want to find an armed her mother. they are hoping this sketch of the suect will help them track him down. it happened tuesday near southeast 13th street and 2nd avenue. barbara sutton was relaxing in her backyard when he came through a side gate, put a gun in her face and walked inside and did the same thing to her 91-year-old mom. they said they refuse to let criminals drive them out of their home.

thing, ultra music festiv has arrived. miami faces big changes. steffi joipsz us live from downto miami with more on this. stephanie? >> reporter: well, trina, those changes already under way. fences like this one are up, on the other side a main stage decorated in lights, and part of biscayne boulevard blocked off for the three-day event. preparations under way for that annual electronic dance music event localscan tell you all about. >> it's going to be hectic, crazy. >> reporter: it's expected to bring in tens of thousands of people each day.. some who are into this music scene travel overseas. like this man from germany. >> miami is a nice place to be. and this party is a nice party. from all over the world people come here.

spending big bucks to party with top deejays. the crowds of people around the main stage will bleed over into miami's downtown core, and like every year, traffic will be affected. that's why officials are blocking off part of biscayne and recommending you use public transportation. officials say this is the best way to get to where you need to be. as fast as you can. still, expepe things move slower than usual. >> something to keep in mind is pack yourselves with patience. >> reporter: detours are in place. but there's more concerns. the police chief is heading up private security at ultra. >> we are a zero tolerance drug event. just be smart about what you're doing, look out for each other. > reporter: good choices between not only what's right and wrong, officials say, but also for your health. >> you'll have people that are drinking, as a result of the heat, they get overcome by heat exhaustion. we're prepared for all of that.

has several units in place, and first aid workers stationed at the park. undercover officers work with private s surity to control the crowds in miami's downtown core. like every year, ultra comes smack in the middle of spring break season. so lots of people already on the beach. and now all these people in the downtown core, of course, locals keep that in mind as you're planning to get ararnd. reporting liv in downtown miami tonight, nbc 6 news. the man who vandalized and burglarized a south floloda school is behind bars. police arrested ruiz gomez. the 35-year-old broke in through the schoolos roof and then stole a safe containing $5,000. the stolen money was supposed to pay for two school trips for students. officials say gomez was being arrested for a separate incident when he confessed to the school break-in.

thief also admitted to breaking into another school in the area. breaking barriers tonight as the u.s. and cuba moves to normalize relations. president obama will make an historic trip to the island nation next week. for more than 50 years, the united states postal service announced that direct mail service to and from cuba will resume. us about, s customers in the u.s. can send first-class postcards, letter size envelopes and packages to cuba. another big change? cuba is being removed from the list of countries considered to have insufficient security at their ports. cruise ships, cargo vessels and ferries will now be able to reenter the u.s. without waiting to be boarded and cleared by the coast guard. the obama administration has started giving approval to u.s. cruise lines as well. here's a look at mr. obama's presidential visit schedule in cuba..

at one of an animal lover is offering an extreme amount of money to get back his lost cats. nbc 6 reporter amanda joins us now, spoke to the feline rescuer in an effort to find his cats that he said were stolen. how much money are we talking about here, amanda? >> reporter: well, keith, we're talking about $20,000. that's how much animal lover steve rosen said he will offer up and pay to anyone who can

said went missing and were taken off his property. cat lover steve rosen said no amount is too high to find his stolen cats. >> between march of last year, and february of this year, seven of my cats have been stolen from the adjacent parking lot. >> reporter: the retired dentist and businessman said his cats were snatched one by one starting last year. he's so furious about getting his animals back, that at one point he installed a $10,000 camera system and hired a private investigator, but no luck. now he's desperate,ffering a hefty reward. >> the last straw effort was to try to put an ad in with a $20,000 reward to see if i could get someone to flush out and let me knowow what's going on. >> reporter: they're microchipped and have radio collars. the feline fan tkes care of about 30 rescue cats, and a parrot and a rooster. >> they're like my children.

>> she's correct in saying that it was -- they didn't tell her. >> reporter: michael lucas said he's worked in adult film for nearly 20 years. he said using rentals for porn shoots is pretty common. most of the time we just never heard about it. >> it's very common. we film hundreds of films. never did run intotohis problem. >> reporter: it happens enough. the attorney said he's spoken to at least two others who hadd porns filmed at their homes but were too mortified to comeme forward. >> this is not an altogether uncommon practice. >> reporter: the porn industry has moved into neighboring counties like ventua, which requires a permit for every porn production. not getting a permit is a misdemeanor and violators can be fined $1,000 and face up to six months in jail. but the county said it's never prosecuted anyone. the county did tell us that if michael had filled out this form, the owner could have learned the intentions beforehand. >> he knew it wasn't okay, or probably thought that it would

the homeowner's right to know what's happening at their house. >> that's just not appropriate. >> a leading adult film industry group said the majority of porn productions happen in rental houses or sets. and said homeowners may not always be informed about it. when they do happen, they said they work quickly to make things right. it's a sea change at sea world. they will no longer breed killer whales. sea world released the video announcing the change. it means the 24 orcas at their four parks will be the last heldd in captivity. sea world had already announced plans t drop killer whale shows at the san diego park. the move comes after years of criticism over the treatment of the whales. sea world is standing by its decision not to free those remaning orcas, saying most were born in captivity and would

now, first alert weather, with chief meteorologist john morales, south florida's most accurate forecast. another warm one in south florida. no rain across the metro area. i'll zoom in here and you'll see what's going on in the lower florida keys. now, by tomorrow night, i would expect many of these in the keys and perhaps across parts metro south florida, our rain chances will be increasing this weekend, and that will start again as early as friday night. temperatures continue to run well abovee normal. nobody saw 90 degrees today, like pembrook pines a couple of days back. but we'reetill in the 80s. a front approaches, causes rain and then brings at least one more stretch of cooler weather. we'll see that next week here in south florida. today's highs included 87 in miami. 88 degrees in pembrook pines. cooler in ft. lauderdale and key west, with a high of 82 degrees.

70s. 75 degrees miami. and ft. lauderdale down to 70 right now in homestead. high pressu off to the east of the bahamas. our winds locally are wek. we have a front off to the north of florida. this is not the front that will arrive here on sunday night, or very early monday. actually, that front is way up in the upper midwest still. still very, very far away. it will definitely bring a cooldown by next week. for the time being, you can see it's raining in parts of northern florida as well as neighboring states of alabama and georgia. here's the forecast now. and i've got a goodchance of rain in the forecast for saturday inin sunday. could thunder, too. some storms could dump over an inch of rain in south florida. when this front is moving through our area. look at tomorrow first. 86 your high temperature. we'll see high clouds. we saw those start to arrive late this afternoon. throughout the day tomorrow, they stick around. look for sun filtered by clouds.

afternoon. once again i'm going to leave them out of the forecast. don't think it will happen. nevertheless, 86 for your high. and look for 85 saturday, and then 86 again on sunday. sunday is the first day of spring, by the way. but the best chance of rain will be on sunday. as the front approaches, it clears through south florida early on monday. our temperatures much cooler on monday. monday night dropping to 59 degrees. there is some cool air even in spring in my forecast. >> we're loving it. when it gets here. still ahead, the latest advertisement from apple has siri hanging out in the kitchen with the cookie monster. the chicago river is dyed green.

it takes to keep the check out this cool time lapse video showing the murky chicago river turning into a bright green to celebrate st. patrick's day. crews dump 40 pounds of this mysterious orange powder into the river. the river turns completely green. usually within about 45 minutes or so. depending on how the wind is blowing, it could stay green for a couple of days. >> i like it. nike is getting ready to release a pair of shoes for those of you who never quite mastered theheunny ear

the shoe giant unveiled the self-tying shoes. when you step into the shoe, your heel hits a sensor, and the laces just tighten up. you can then use buttons on the side to tighten or loosen the laces or to adjust foror comfort. the shoe also lights up and will come in three colors. nike hasn't said how much the shoes will cost, but they'll be exclusively available come holiday season t subscribers of the new nike plus app which launches in june. they must be expensive. when you don't hear the price, it's up there, right? >> it's got to be. >> for people who don't know how to tie thr shoes. >> canes playing in the ncaa tournament. we might have kevin spacey on our sports segment. how about that. >> that's cool.
