friday! i'm vanessa ruffes in for walter allen((laura/ and i'm laura moody.... jen epstein has the day off as well. let's start off with a check of the forecast, with dave. (dave partly cloudy, breezy and warm with high temps making it back into the mid 80s. tonight will be clear and lovely, turning much drier, with lows temps heading back into the upper 50s. the weekend looks beautiful with sunshine and cooler temps. highs will be in the mid to upper 70s, and lows temps in the 50s.

developing this morning... police are investigating a murder in tampa... and the killer is still on the run. a woman's body was found laying in the middle of "flora street" yesterday. neighbors say police went around asking if th police say it's clear this was not an accident... the name of the victim has not yet been released. a sad update this morning on a sarasota hit-and-run crash. the woman hit by a car tuesday night... has passed away. right now... police say they have no witnesses and no description of the vehicle repsonsible. fox-13's shayla reaves is live in sarasota this morning... shayla, so far this has been a tough case to

election officials are busy setting up early voting sites throughout tampa bay this morning. you can start casting your vote throughout most of the area starting on monday... other states started early voting yesterday. and while the nominees hoped to swing some undecided voters during the final debate... last night they were up to something much different. donald trump and hillary clinton took part in the annual "al smith dinner". it's a major fundraiser for catholic charities in new york city. the fundraiser has a history of being almost like a roast. for instance-- hillary said many people see the statue of liberty as a beacon of hope...

there was one visibly awkward moment, though... near the end of trump's time at the podium, his speech turned into more of a rally than a roast... and he delivered some straight attacks on clinton. at one point sayi catholics". the crowd began booing.. and he moved on. polk county deputies have arrested 4 teens involved in a burglary spree... but the danger is far from over. officials say the group... teenagers all between 16 and 19 years old... stole multiple cars, guns, and items from homes. in surveillance vide, you can see one teen walk onto a driveway and moments later drive off

homes in south lakeland and mulberry communities were burglarized. the group made off with 5 cars... 2 guns... and other items earlier this week. while the cars have been found... the guns are still out there. sheriff their cars and homes up... many of these thefts could have been prevented. the 4 teens... including 19-year-old donte scott are now in jail. venice police have arrested the man accused of carrying out a string of crimes... and leaving a woman fighting for her life. police say "ralph forte" has admitted to beating a woman in the parking lot of a shell gas station on tamiami trail, wednesday night. the woman is an employee at the massage parlor across the

recovering. after the incident... police say forte tried to carjack at least 2 drivers. he's facing charges for battery and attempted carjacking. wildlife officials rescued a sperm whale in charlotte county this week. the 19 and a half foot whale was found stranded on a sandbar near little gasparilla island. the young whale had become separated from its mother... it appeared disorientated and malnourished. unfortunately... officials had no choice but to humanely euthanize the whale. doing a necropsy to learn more information. fortunately... wildlife officials get to take part in some happy endings as well. after nearly a year and a half of rehab... a manatee was returned to the water in stuart. f-w-c officials and employees at miami seaquarium helped. this manatee was found floating in the water back in may of 20-15... it had a lower- back injury... caused by a watercraft. but after some

((laura/live)) there's a brand new way to get around downtown tampa.. if you don't want to make the journey on foot.. or pay for a ride. (laura - the city has launched its ?free, app-based electric shuttle called "the downtowner".. the vehicles operate within the downtown business district, channel district, river arts district, the university of tampa area, and the non-gated north end of harbour island. the downtowner will operate monday through friday, 6 am to 11 pm... and sundays, from 11 am to 11 pm. (laura) we don't normally report on petty theft... but winter haven police have made an arrest... even they said... was too crazy to make up. (laura - this is brian crume. officers arrested the 48-year-old wednesday for stealing three packs of electronic wire from the walmart on cypress gardens boulevard. that, in and of itself, isn't unusual. but when officers asked crume why he did it... he said he needed money to bail out his

the 6-point-6 magnitude quake happened in tottori. it struck on land of a relatively shallow depth of just 6 miles. the quake caused a temporary blackout... about 32-thousand homes were without power. while some structures were damaged... there's no reports of serious injuries. meanwhile in iraq this morning... armed militants attacked a police compound in the city of kirkuk. this is a live picture from iraq... multiple expl gunshots could be heard earlier today. a t-v station there says all the islamic state militants who took part in the attack have been killed... except for two-- who are holed up in a building. no word on deaths among civilians or kuridsh forces. the attack comes as iraqi forces were working on a major offensive to rid mosul of isis. a pretrial hearing is scheduled for today... in a police officer's murder trial. university of cincinnati

stopped samuel dubose for not having a front license plate back in july... the officer claims the man nearly dragged him with his car as he tried to get away. the officer shot and killed dubose, who was not armed. tensing has plead not guilty. jury selection begins on tuesday. ten international explorers are getting ready for a more than 10-thousand mile journey.... in this ?basket boat. the 60-foot- long boat is being built out of papyrus reeds in it's actually called a reed boat. the group is taking off from northern chile starting in february... sailing all the way to sidney, australia. an american is leading the expedition... they're trying to prove it was possible for ancient people to make journeys across huge oceans. with 5 stops along the way...the trip will take

florida fish and wildlife is holding marine quest school daze at u-s-f's st. pete campus. students are able to tour labs and interact with hands-on displays and activities. the fun starts at 8:45 this morning. tonight in plant city... a haunted attraction for all you "walking dead" fans. it's a hayride... through a horde of zombies. but the best part? you actually get to defend yourself. stress.. and it's not because he's a clown. why falling food prices are causing mcdonald's so much anxiety.
