(jen) (2shot) the way autism presents itself in ?girls may help scientists, doctors and parents learn much more about this disorder.. ((vanessa)) laura moody joins us with more now on this surprising research into autism and girls.. ((laura)) we've always been told autism is about four times more common in boys.. but that may not be true.. scientists are finding that many girls with autism.. are just better at masking the condition.. this means that autism may not mean the same thing for girls and boys.. for example - a girl can have the
autism.. and not have the same characteristics.. doctors say many girls able to more easily conform.. or mimic.. their peers. that helps hide the disorder. also - scientists want to investigate the possibility that girls have an additional protein or gene in their bodies that make autism less severe. they say, this could one day help lead to a way to treat.. or even prevent... autism. doctors say this research should also lead to different girls. right now, there's one test for autism.. which includes questions like, does your child play make-believe.. or make eye contact.. and do they seek praise.. they say, this may work in diagnosing boys.. but not girls. they say there needs to be a different test for girls.. in order to start
the major horror films ever made... and here's a look at their top... and terrifying... picks. (jen we start with "alien"... the movie that launched a franchise, and sigourney weaver's career... it takes the familiar haunted house theme and melds it into a grimy sci-fi setting. the reviewers called this one "structurally perfect... and one of the scariest films ever made." (vanessa speaking of classics... "texas chainsaw massacre" made the list. it's one of the first slasher films... and, according to reviewers, quote, "what it lacks in subtlety, it makes up for in enthusiasm." it'll make even the heartiest gore fans squirm... (jen have you heard of this one: "the descent?" it's
who go down to take a look, and something goes wrong.. horribly wrong. oh yeah, that's not spooky at all! if you're claustrophobic, or afraid of the dark, this is ?not for you! (vanessa then, there's "the conjuring." the reviewers called this one "genuinely unsettling and incredibly well shot"... and bonus: it's based on a true story... which just ups the scary factor. and hey... it.. you know, john's son and mark's brother. right on! (jen and now... the creepy twins at the end of the hall... the little kid with the bloody visions... and whatever that is in the bathtub... "the shining" is considered by many to be the greatest horror movie of all time. it's based on a stephen king novel. he
does. (jen) also on the list: new flicks like "the others"... and more classics, like "rosemary's baby." (vanessa) and the reviewers included "jaws" too... sure, it doesn't fit the classic definition of a ?horror film... but this epic spielberg tale will still give you a good fright. ((vanessa)) it may be the sunshine state, but florida gets a ?lot of rain...((jen)) well, ?usually... ((jen but now, even during droughts, one part of the bay area... won't be left "high and dry." the new project... that promises to keep the water... ?on... after
victims. i want to make the state attorney's office a model for criminal justice. i'll prioritize violent crime and be tough on murderers, gangs, and anyone who commits domestic abuse or sexual assault. and i'll make the system fair by working with police to wear body cameras and using dna to put criminals behind bars, not innocent people. i'm andrew warren. as state attorney, i'll make our county safer for our families. this, the drought of 2000 and 2001. the lakes in pasco county were dried up.. and that was a problem... since a big part of the water supply for the bay area comes from pasco county. ((vanessa)) well not anymore... there's a new project, that will change all that in part of the county. as fox-13's lloyd sowers shows us: let there be ?water. we're on the the 4-g ranch near land-olakes, where the lakes have been dry sometimes for rancher teddy phillips "we could see a real significant drop in our water table in a short amount of time." but in a few months time, he'll see millions of gallons of water...reclaimed water from
ponds here. "they appear as they're going to be natural wetlands." county biologist jeff harris says it will turn back time in this part of pasco. "we're bringing back the ecologicial funciton that's been lost due to drying up wetlands and lakes." ..and once full, the big ponds go to work in a couple of ways "fifty percent of the water will stay in the wetland and 50 percent will filter down into the upper floridan aquifer, ourdrinking water source." that means more water for hillsborough, pinellas and pasco. brian armstrong, swiftmud's executive director says scientists from all over the world will be watching them reuse reclaimed water. "these types of projects where you can use this water more than once are ideal because you've doubling the water essentially" and while the ponds look baron now, natvie tees and grasses will be planted..creating wetlands and stabelizing the ranches' water table. "we're hoping to have sustainablility with water and our cattle operations." soon to be wet on a once dry ranch and a new source of water for everyone. lloyd sowers fox 13 news.
the project cost around 14- between pasco county and the water management district. ((vanessa)) they've set a goal, to re-use at least ?75-percent of our reclaimed water... right now it's about ?42 percent. ((jen)) there's much more to come on good day. ((vanessa)) let's turn it over to russell and laura - to find out what's ahead in our 6 o'clock hour. thousands and thousands of people showed up in tampa to hear donald trump speak.. the ampitheatre was rocking.. coming up at six - his plans for the first 100 days of a trump presidency.. and when you can see hillary clinton in
