12:10 pm
it's actually the second floor. the old jail has been closed several years now and they've transformed it into a really neat haunted jail, about 100 volunteers, believe it or not, from several high schools, they come out here and they're a part of it. they wear masks and do everything they can to create a good spook and different things along the way to get you in the mood. the one area that's by far the spookiest in my opinion is the iso block. that's where the worst of t was open. and i've heard some really creepy stories from people dying who have either hung themselves or one person apparently -- one inmate apparently set their mattress on fire. they wanted to fight with the deputies and we understand that person, that inmate actually died of smoke inhalation. we got some props here along the way, too, which is very cool. thank you for being with us.
12:11 pm
second because there are some interesting stories of people who have died in the jail that still kind of remain. some ghosts, right? >> yeah. one of the bigger stories we have is the legend of calvin and him dying down that way and the long corridors there and they still see him wander those halls. he's still around. and i've been up here and i've seen strange shadows passing through aread. >> this is legit. this is not you're being serious. >> i'm really being serious. when i'm up here by myself, i get a little apprehensive. i've been up here with other people, lights are on, it's fine. when it starts getting dark and i start shutting stuff off, that's when your mind plays tricks and you know, i don't know if it's real or if it's all in my head, but yeah. i see it. >> you're not the only one. several people this morning said the same thing. >> i thought i was skeptical but the more time i spend up here, the more i believe in it so --
12:12 pm
it's all volunteer based. you ever several deputies and people that were part of the polk county employees and part of the administration that are part of it which is great. so it's $5 to be a part of it to see a 15 minute tour. and the money goes to a non profit. talk about that. >> we donate all the profits to united way and this is who we've been donating to since we started this event. yeah. that's really the whole thing. it's about making money for the community, about benefitting united way and really just good time and as far as us and volunteers go, it's some of the best fun we have get to have. we come out here and we are ourselves a good time. it makes memories for the whole year. >> it does. i appreciate your time. it's pretty neat to see the jail up close and personal without being arrested, obviously. so it is tonight and tomorrow as well. starts at 6:00 and ends at 11:00.

12:19 pm
into the weekend. we've had a quiet pattern all week long, really not a whole lot of change from day-to-day. what we've been dealing with the past few days is just some breezy conditions and picks up some clouds from the eastern side of the state, brings the low clouds through the area and then some upper level clouds have been passing through as well but kind of blend it all together and still, a nice day. 82 degrees outside right now. dew point is at 64. that makes humidity at 64%. winds east-northeast at 16, gusting up to 24 miles an hour. already in the mid 80s in brandon at 84 degrees. same in sarasota and venice. lakeland, wesley chapel, bartow, all at 79 degrees. you head in brooksville currently sitting at 80 degrees. downtown st. petersburg, you're currently at 77 degrees and we've been watching this all week long with that easterly flow. remember, we have a ridge of high pressure to the north and relatively lower pressure down to the south.
12:20 pm
increase the wind so right now the winds are gusting up about 24 miles an hour. we head down to venice, winds are currently gusting up to 26 miles an hour. we'll continue with breezy weather. it looks like through much of the weekend as well. there you see the satellite view of some high clouds working their way across state. a lot more cloud cover as you go down across the southern part of the state down to the florida straits and down into the caribbean a weather but a lot of wind shear across this area. so if you're thinking in the back of your mind, we have to watch this for tropical development, we're watching it but it doesn't look like anything will develop because of the strong wind shear. conditions are not favorable to see anything try to form down in this area. now, across the north and the northeast, there's the cold front that's swung through the northeast bringing some rain, some sleet, some freezing rain,
12:21 pm
across new york city and cooler temperatures across the northern tier of states as well. buffalo is at 43 degrees. chicago at 53 but see that dividing line. that front has pulled up stationary well to the north so south of that, temperatures are actually pretty mild running in the 70s and 80s. 40s, 50s and 60s north of that line. so watch future cast play out. that front tries to work its way a bit further to it's not going to do anything for us. that ridge of high pressure basically stays in place. it will clear out the skies more as we head towards sunday with mainly sunny skies and that's just about the only change we're talking about so we're a nice and quiet pattern the next several days. for tonight, partly cloudy skies, overnight low of 70. more on of the same for tomorrow. high tide comes up at 2:03 this afternoon.
12:22 pm
dealing with breezy conditions throughout the weekend. seas running two to three feet with a moderate chop on the bay. seven-day forecast, you can see the daytime highs. they stay in the mid 80s. overnight lows in the 60s all the way through the weekend. we have a lot of football. tonight navy taking on usf, 81 degrees and then the gators heading over to jacksonville to take on the georgia bulldogs. 83 on saturday. kickoff at clear skies in tallahassee. 76 degrees. clemson taking on florida state. then sunday, we have the raiders into town. 83 degrees, mainly sunny skies so a good looking forecast for that as well. >> football. no doubt. it's a beautiful friendship and they share an inseparable bond. >> so when i heard she was a great dane and she was named patea, i thought, this dog was meant to be mine.
