7:01 am
of how pretty it is in polk county. in fact, most of the country, the weather looks great for election day. we'll have that northeast wind again today so we'll keep it relatively mild this afternoon with a mixture of clouds and sunshine. we're going to sneak right back up into the lower 80s for high temperatures. enjoy it. >>vanessa: thanks, dave. looks like the biggest incident on the road is going to be along 275. it's northbound direction in case you're were watching this crash in the last report and it's going to be infecting drivers who will be heading north past the fowler avenue area. it is taking up a left lane. we have authorities on scene but i'm not seeing tow trucks so it could be locker until this is cleared out. the good news is we're seeing delays under five minutes or so so you can plan that extra time or if you just would rather take a work around, please do so. we'll update you as we get on throughout the morning on how this crash is clearing.
7:02 am
the normal congestion. clear on southbound 75 and i-4 westbound. not too bad. seven minutes from mlk to the interchange. >>laura: wait is over. it is election day. hillary clinton and donald trump were up past midnight. >>russell: barn storming through a number of precincts. >> voting has begun here in virginia and this is a state that for years was reliably it's now reliably democratic. it may give us an idea about voter enthusiasm. the first results are in. tiny dixville notch in new hampshire making the call just after midnight. >> hillary clinton four counts. donald trump, two votes. >>reporter: clinton victory, four votes to two. in the primaries, they thought this would be a race between

7:04 am
control of the senate. it's more likely that democrats take the senate but by a very narrow margin. >>reporter: some senate races are going to be fascinating to watch tonight. this all comes down to turnout and we've seen a pretty long line at this precinct this morning. >>russell: 7:04 and a warning from homeland security. al qaeda terrorists disrupt the election with terror attacks today. that's the reason for extra security in new york city. clinton and trump are hosting election night events in manhattan. >>laura: a record number of americans sdr already cast a ballot. at least 43 million. we had just over six million vote early here in florida. that includes almost half of all voters in hillsborough county but they stale expect a heavy turnout today. shayla reaves is at a polling

you're allowed to take it into the polling room and unlike early voting, you must vote at your assigned precinct. it will be labelled on your voter registration card. if you are in line by 7:00 p.m., you will be allowed to vote. that is the law. hillsborough county is just one of dozens of jurisdictions that will be monitored during this election cycle by the justice department. we want to make sure that voting laws are being followed. no one is having trouble as far as discrimination, or fraud. we'll be looking for that as well as 27 other states in addition to floor rflorida. i'll have another report in a few moments. back to you. >>laura: and this election is too close to call. here are results from four different polls done in florida this week. trump and clinton lead in one apiece, two are tied. they're all within the margin of error of 2% to 3%. >>russell: yeah. that was not one of those polls.
7:07 am
let's get to this story. florida has chosen the overall winner in nine of the last 10 presidential elections. only exemption was 1992 and don't let anybody tell you your vote does not count. here we go. a lot of you remember the recount back in 2000. a long and tedious process. in the end, george w. bush beat al gore by 537 votes in florida. nearly six million votes were cast that year. florida made headlines again the we were the only state decided by less than 1%. president obama beat mitt romney. that's out of almost 8.5 million votes. >>laura: u.s. senator is trying to keep his job. he faces democratic congressman patrick murphy and it's been a tight race. latest poll shows rubio leading murphy 50-43%. the senator has outspent murphy

she was sitting in her car with a friend when they were shot at on sunday afternoon. she was killed. her parents think the bullets were meant for somebody else. they're still making funeral arrangements. >>russell: computer outrages affecting dmv offices across the state. system failure caused big problems at four dmv offices in pasco county over the weekend. customers waited in line for hours after a glitch crashed the dmv system. hundreds were turned away with expired licenses and tags. those n for voting also had to try again yesterday. it's the second saturday this month this system has gone down. >>laura: it is about 7:10 and time for a good day, good deed. a good samaritan paid a fire crew's bill after they went for a call. group was shopping for their lunch and dinner at a citrus park publix but they got a call

service so they could come back for it a little later and when they returned, their food was paid for in full and this was the note thanking them for their service. >>russell: how great is that? that's great. all right. do you know your lines? it's time for traffic tip tuesday and today we're getting street smart by learning what the lines on the street really mean. >>laura: and there are no lines on this street. not anymore. one of the largest sink holes we've ever seen street to crumble away. >>dave: 7:10 on a lovely, lovely tuesday morning. getting your kids off to the bus stop. we have a nice, comfy, 65 degrees in the tampa area. it's going to stay mild throughout the day today with a mixture of clouds and sunshine. we're going to get back to about

i'm hillary clinton and i approve this message. people in the upper echelons of the military are very concerned about the things that mr. trump has already said he's going to ask the military to do. chris matthews: talking of maybe using nuclear weapons, nobody wants to hear that about an american president. well, then, then why are we making them? a foreign policy expert went to advise donald trump, and three times he asked, "if we have them, why can't we use nuclear weapons?"

>>dave: 7:44 and a lovely tuesday morning. how about we haven't shown this to you in a bit. the hudson beach camera. i mean, boy, is it beautiful this morning. i want you to know in a little bit that we do have a little breeze along the immediate coastline and that's going to hang around for a few hours and then i expect it to subside for you later this afternoon. temperatures are very comfy
7:45 am
brooksville, then really mostly low to mid 60s from clearwater, brandon, bartow, winters haven, all the way across central florida. very, very comfy. upper 50s, there you go from brooksville to the mid 50s in jacksonville and even miami has gotten into the act with some of this little bit of drier air working its way in. now, here is the deal. over the course of the next few days, i think i nicer and nicer. we'll throw a few clouds in tomorrow's forecast but watch these forecast dew points and again, it measures the amount of surface moisture. the lower the number, the nicer it feels outside. drier it feels outside. dew points in the 50s. double thumbs up. but watch this. we're going to be draining those dew points, perhaps down into the 40s by this upcoming weekend. so even drier air is going to settle in. of course, it doesn't help the rain chances at all because we
7:46 am
just in general, it's that nice fall-like air going to settle in. high pressure in control now with partly cloudy and pleasant conditions. back to the west, you see this little dash line. this is an indication of a trough or an elongated area of low pressure. get some lift, get some shower activity. i look for this to rainfall apart before it makes its way here. so what's left is cloud cover. that's where i think the clouds will come from. shower but no significant rain expected and once that's gone, right back in the sunshine again as we get into thursday and then it's a veterans day and the weekend as well so clouds, sunshine, pleasant. 82 for a high temperature today which is where we were yesterday afternoon. then variable clouds tonight, i use the term comfy. 66 for the overnight low and again, i'm trying to push it here with the sprinkle just in general, mostly cloudy skies.
7:47 am
and that's about it for tomorrow afternoon. again, breezy along the coast this morning. we will go back to a light chop, more reasonable winds this afternoon. water temperatures in the mid 70s and your next seven days, i have more upper 70s for high temperatures than i do lower 80s and i think that may be the first time we've done that this fall season. i'm looking forward to it. >>vanessa: i like that. all right. we'll switch gears and get to roads at 7:47. we want to talk about new trouble spots in the palm harbor area, definitely seeing southbound 19 is one of those spots. crash reported at curlew road. it looks like it might be just north of curlew, maybe closer to county road 39 but lane blocks are reported and most of the delays in the southbound direction as you can see so make sure you're giving yourself at least five minutes or so out the door. if we head over to the river view area, we can see we have a
7:48 am
it will be affecting the northbound direction. watch out, please. use caution for the emergency crews that are on site. left lane is going to be blocked. we do want to remind drivers travelling through dover, we still have the intersection blockages reported here at mlk, junior boulevard and macintosh road. plan extra time. westbound was the area of most concern where we had the biggest delays. might be a direction to avoid still. all right. it is tuesday and as i mentioned bfore the break, we'll talk about the lines on the roadway. always a go ahead -- good refresher and we want to bring in officer roy. can we just address the face? we have very observant viewers and they'll want to know what's going on with this. >> good morning. happy tuesday. happy election day. yeah. how do you like that? beard for bucs. police officers usually don't get to have beards but it's a
7:49 am
and we get so many money and the chief allows us to grow beards. i'm in my rough, grown out stage right now. >>vanessa: it looks pretty good. dave will even say better than what he can do at this point. >> thank you. >>vanessa: so get your money's worth with that. meantime, we want to get to our topic now that we've addressed the beard. know your lines. i imagine you see all sorts of wrong doings on the road regarding this. >> the lines on us a lot of different things. they tell us when to go, when we can pass, when we don't pass, when we slow down, where we can't go and a lot of people are confused about that. how can you be confused? we know they're confused. one of the biggest things when we pull them over, they'll say, i have no idea i couldn't go through here. we'll try to clear that up for you today. when you can pass and when you can't pass f. you're driving
7:50 am
lanes of traffic, that means you can pass. as you can see in the graphic right there, there's a dotted line on your left-hand side and if you want to pass and it's clear to do so, you put on your blinker, you go over to that lane, accelerate, put on your blinker to go the other way and then you merge back in to traffic. a dotted dash means you can pass. if you have a solid line separating you and the traffic, that means you cannot pass. a solid line means no. it may look like you can p you say i've got plenty of room. but guys, that's been determined by traffic engineers and if you pass on a solid line, you're putting yourself in danger and other people also. and then also, if you're driving down the road and you have a dashed line and a solid line, if the dash line is on your side of the road, that means you can pass. okay? but if you have a solid line on your side of the road, don't pass. okay? so dash means go. solid means don't.
7:51 am
regarding the center left turn line. some folks might know this maybe when they're going to school, they hear it called the suicide lane. >> and that's a fantastic line. it's been kind of dubbed there the suicide lane. a lot of people get in the lane and they don't do a left-hand turn. they do it to merge into traffic or passing. as you see that the inside and the solid line on the outside, that lane is to pull in and make a left-hand turn. what that lane does, it frees up traffic, moving traffic to keep going so they don't have to stop for everyone making left-hand turns. please, if you use that lane, it's a great lane. only use it for left-hand turns. >>vanessa: i see it on kennedy boulevard all the time. >> guys, remember, if it's a

room to pass, please don't do it. it's not worth it. >>vanessa: always good advice. thanks, officer roy. good luck with te beard. i want to see it big and burly next week. okay? >> as big as i can get it. thank you very much. >>vanessa: we'll get to charley, speaking of men with beards. >>charley: speaking of big and burly, vanessa, i'm giving you an alternative to election day. >>vanessa: okay. >>charley: here she is. >>vanessa: fluffy. >>charley: that's elise, and gentlemen. stick around. it is national animal shelter appreciation week. we are appreciating the folks at

heart attack. or dying from one. it worked better than plavix. >>don't stop taking brilinta without talking to your doctor since stopping it too soon increases your risk of clots in your stent, heart attack, stroke, and even death. brilinta may cause bruising or bleeding more easily, or serious, sometimes fatal bleeding. don't take brilinta if you have bleeding, like stomach ulcers, a history of bleeding in the brain, or severe liver problems. tell your doctor about bleeding, new or unexpected shortness of breath, any planned surgery, and all medicines you take. >>talk to your doctor about brilinta. if you can't afford your medication, astra zeneca may be able to help. my dad was a family doctor in pinellas county for 55 years. he used to even take me on house calls. both my parents taught me to help others. that's why i believe in public service. as your governor we got things done, and if you send me to congress we can do it again. i'll protect social security and medicare. defend planned parenthood and women's health care.

i'll put you, the people first. always have, and always will. >>charley: "good day." i'm charley belcher coming to you from winter haven this morning. just to show you on this election day, dogs and cats, living together in perfect harmony. perhaps we humans could take it happens to be national animal shelter appreciation week. lisa, we appreciate you. >> thank you. we appreciate you coming today. >>charley: lisa is at the humane society of polk county. you guys are on the front lines taking care of unwanted and trying to find homes, forever homes for dogs and cats and for your area for polk county. >> yes. we sure are. we take in around 1,300 animals
7:56 am
polk county's only no kill shelter and we hav some of the dogs in there. you'll hear them barking. they're problem children but we make a commitment to help them with their behaviors and any issues they might have so we have trainers on staff. dr. vargas will be here talking about accupuncture as well as aromatherapy. we want to encourage people to adopt from their shelters, get volunteer. maybe you want to be a foster mama for us or foster daddy. but we always can use the help. >>charley: nice. speaking of help, we'll tell you a little later today how you can help your local shelter, how you can help the humane society of polk county. we'll tell you how you should adopt, not shop, and we'll give you lots of cute little puppies and kitties to look at this fine day. if you want to go to my facebook page, you'll see me get attacked

[scoff] carson and i have seen some terrible ads attacking our mom dana young. for things she never did. it hurts because mom is cool. she is caring, she works hard. whenever something is not right mom is on it. trust us we know from experience. mom put her career on hold for us. to raise our family. she is
