>> thank you. >> state leaders and federal officials say they are ready for any chaos that could happen in polling places in florida and around the country. for weeks vote vote's experts say they are concerned over this historically bitter presidential race. and want people to be prepared for any issue. nonpartisan umbrella organization called election protection has 4500 legal volunteers answering questions over the phone. here's the 1-866-our-vote. there are also be nearly 2500 legal volunteers in polling locations. many of those in florida where there are some concerns over possible long waits. now not just the presidential race but also at at stake when it comes to at local races and those controversial amendments. and there seems to be a lot of confusion over amendment 1. the so-called solar energy amendment. it gives utility companies the
customers way to compensate for people who don't by any electricity. backed by more than $20 million from utility companies. and it appears to be pro solar. but several solar energy groups say this will actually restrict solar growth by raising the cost. other controversial measure is amendment 2. legalize medical marijuana for those suffering from debilitating diseases. critics fear this would lead to pop up marijuana dispensaries with little oversight. amendment's wording to distress those concerns. right right now many state polls show support is above 60 percent needed but that's based on a poll not actually votes. similar measure failed in 2014, after only receiving 58 percent of the vote. >> there's also the hotly contested senate race. people are watching to see if senator marco rube will keep the seat he's held since 2011. right now quinnipiac shows rubio is leading the democratic candidate that's patrick murphy
spent more than $18 million on tv ads. that's compared to the 8.7 million spent by murphy and his supporters usf pro tesser says since beginning a dirty campaign full of personal attacks with very little time spent discussing actually issues. another big race to watch is one between congressman david jolly and former florida governor charlie crist. fox news named florida 13th district the fourth most >> david jolly seeking reelection, but it may not happen. a recent poll shows christmas slight lead and a democratic cam initial races on red to blue program. something to show you here just about an hour of a polls opened in new york, presidential candidate hillary clinton and her husband the former president cast their votes in chappaqua near the connecticut border
so now we know. she didn't vote early. stick with fox 13 for all your election coverage. coming up in next half hour we're in pinellas county checking in on their lines. remember when we are aren't on air we're always online at www.fox13news.com. a crew of firefighters got quite the surprise from a total stranger. that's where this morning good day good deed begins. hillsborough county crew went shopping for their station's grocery at the citrus park publix. when they were about to pay were called out. crew asked cashier to save their grocery and put them over customer service when they returned they found someone had already paid for this grocery bill in full. and message on back of the reseat did not a name just message thanking them for their service. they shared the message on facebook as a thank you to whoever this was. >> dogs and babies. nothing cuter. combination especially unique program that gets the dog prepared for the baby's arrival so things stay nice and sweet in
charley. dog or cat this time? >> dogs. we're going dogs in this next segment. look at that one right there. might be pete from our gang, little rascals. look at that. >> look at that face. >> my problem is russell i cannot stay out of these hi baby. hi baby. hi sweetie. hi. look at that. look at that baby. look at the baby. oh hi, thank you. it is national animal shelter appreciation week. we're here appreciating the folks. what's that? i'm it's a bonus. no i won't. we are appreciating people at the humane society of what's that? wrap it up go to break. what are you producer? stick it are we will take you to humane society of polk county when good day tampa bay continues. bob buesing... on the record.
election day. and this is how it greets you outside. it is beautiful. sirata beach, east winds at 15. and it's going to remain breezy along the coast for the next few hours. and then the winds will start to slacken up a little bit during afternoon brook dale bay shore cam ram where it's 65 degrees. that east wind. at 13. and equally as beautiful are lakeland net camera overlooking lake mirror this morning. where north, northeast winds at 5 miles per hour temperature running around 63 degrees. we're good to go today. i mean, it's not only our state though, most of the country the weather looks fantastic. and mild for this election day. few showers back off toward the northwest. as they punch through the in toward our area tomorrow, we may get more cloud cover. but we're just not anticipating in any rain. it will stay relatively quiet over next several days. other than a few more clouds on
afternoon. very, very pleasant. tonight, variable clouds, low 66 degrees. and then back to 78 tomorrow under mostly cloudy skies. big question mark for sprinkle. i don't think many of us will get that. if you happen to make it in the north. we're looking good. i mean we've got veterans day on friday. lot of outdoor festivities weather looks great. looks like we will upper 70s from friday through monday afternoon. vanessa. very nice. thanks, dave. and we're looking live here in pinellas. that. entrance ramp to get off the pinellas point drive on to northbound 275 is blocked right now. you can see we have a crash that's completely blogging off the on ramp. we also have shut down lanes in this area. sop drivers please avoid this area. if you're looking to access 275, of course your next alternate will be just one entrance ramp to north. 54th avenue south. keep in mind fur agoing to using 31st to access 54th we're seeing
no big surprise since folks will be detoured off around this area. >> so we'll get closer to brandon here. hillsborough county, disabled vehicle reported along northbound 75. this is at the state road 60 area. good news not blocking any lanes. but it looks a bit slow in this area. so make sure you're using caution. left shoulder i saw an earlier camera shot is going to blocked up here. most of your delays reported basically from 60 all way back beyond the selman expressway congestion back towards u.s. 30 one. then, we want to get sarasota. university parkway. we have a crash there. it's at i-75. big concern is going to be eastbound direction two lanes blocked and looking very slow in that direction. all right. vanessa. bringing a baby into the home not only adjustment for the parents, for me and natalie will be an adjustment also our
of course this week we've doing all sorts of things getting him him reed daddy boot camp so to speak. introducing the baby to the dog. that you've had for a number of years. for number of years the dog said wait a minute i'm boss now i'm no longer boss. megan joining us from spca of tampa bay. okay. this is how did you come up with this program snm this only one in country. it is i'm very fortunate you have to be licensed presenter through the program. so i went through program with a lady names jennifer in north carolina. got licensed. but this is such an important program to help families get more comfortable, more confident, not be scared. and also we offer it in hospitals as part of prebirthing program. tampa bay general hospital, florida hospital, tampa. we're very lucky to have those partnerships. obviously you saw a need. what were some of the things and needs and desires and concerns almost other things people were voicing to you? >> so we have behavior help line
my dog is fill in blank whatever breed that was. and they were really concerned. they had heard history mom had seen something dad had had an animal at some point that scared him. now they are calling us for help. we also unfortunately had folks surrendering just felt like they were so scared and so worried that they brought us their pet. that breaks my heart. >> yeah. we don't want to see that. no. how do you get those two to play nice? i know there's an introduction that has to we first bring baby home. know that's about mom and dad and baby and bonding. the dog i do encourage you to bring baby home, have mom sit down have treats available to gries is getting hot dogs and string cheese this morning be rewarding dog for quiet and calm behavior around the baby. okay. so what is it about the dog
obviously baby cries, it eats and sleeps. one of the three of those two of them will disrupt the dog because when it is food time. >> when baby the crying not exactly pleasant for dog either >> no it's not. their sense of smell, their sense of hearing is so much more refined than ours is. if you think about a baby an everybody gets up and goes running to see. we have to help the dog also cope with that out that hurt, that's hearing sensitive how can get c d of baby crying youtube as great videos play it really quiet so dog doesn't necessarily respond lots of treats and quiet calm behaviors and start turning it up a little bit louder. dogs can feel neglected as soon as baby comes home. >> yeah. how can everybody play nice, especially parents, show some attention toward the dog. >> exactly all about bonding time. right? we want to make sure we give dog
that also helps the family preserve their bond, right? where mom and dad start to feel detached from their dog. because, now your baby is on board. one of the things i recommend food puzzle toy. i brought her one. make food puzzle toy sit on couch and just toss them some treats so instead of getting dinner from a dish, all you have to do just hand them their hey, good girl. you have to toss their treats and a really simple way to bond with your dog. let them chase the cookies. i do want to mention you said that training can go as far as smelling feet and faces. so, with infants especially the stakes are pretty high here. so i really want to encourage dogs to come check out their feet. go sniff. good girl. good girl. >> good job. >> so let dog investigate, but never their face.
spca tampa bay. thank you so much. good luck. congratulations. great information. great information. >> i'm feeling more comfortable russell with each one of these getting more and more comfortable. i like the way you're holding that. you've got that by head and neck by the head and neck i'm told. >> see you later, man. >> we have a warning for you about fake apps. three things before you download anything even if it looks legit. and then grab your attention? we can tell you how coming up at 9. polls opened a little over an hour ago. this is live look at one of them over in pinellas county. pretty quiet. pretty quiet. we'll get live update from jen coming up at 8:30. putting a wife to work is a very dangerous thing. when i come home and dinner's not ready i go through the roof.
you can do anything.
more accusers coming forward to say they were sexually assaulted by donald trump. i'll go backstage before a show... yes.. and everyone's getting dressed. donald trump walked into the dressing room while contestants, some as young as 15 were changing. standing there with no clothes. you see these incredible looking women. i'd look her right in that fat ugly face of hers. she ate like a pig. ry hard to be a 10. do you treat women with respect? uh... i can't say that either. alright, good.
my dad was
a family doctor in pinellas county for 55 years. he used to even take me on house calls. both my parents taught me to help others. that's why i believe in public service. as your governor we got things done, and if you send me to defend planned parenthood and women's health care. and i'll take care of our veterans. i'm charlie crist and i approve this message because i'll put you, the people first.

doggies in this one and talk about the shelter. i love the way the shelter is designed. i love your kennels the way they look i did know you guys are very proud of this facility. we are. we put lot of research and thought into it. we had a board that allowed me to travel. and find out the latest greatest techniques and things to do in kennels. and we actually were able to implement them here like the arrow ma therapies that you see. we have the lavender and peppermint. just to they breathe that in and that unless can them and relaxes them. i will nowsay a sentence that i have never said at an animal shelter smells good in here. no offense to any other shelter. this smells pretty good. and as we good around jason shows off some kitties and puppies that you have here. by way everyone you see up for adoption, we should point out that it the, it takes a lot of
volunteers. so what do you need? it's we are here to appreciate you. tell me how we can financially appreciate you. i love that your first teaser you said we were going to share love. because we have campaign coming up called share a little love campaign. this year we added a new feature to that. it's text to give. our put that up for you guys. when you get a chance. but but you can text polk county no kill space, the dollar sign and whatever amount you want to give. to furry friend partners to donate $100. if we get 20,000 people to donate $100 like one time or $10 a month, we can actually pay off the mortgage. so we're wanting to have burn the mortgage event. when we get that money we're going to invite you back to actually. all right jason if you don't mind i want to show this. i will make sure our web team has this. but you text polk county no kill
whatever you want to donate to that number. 50155. again i'm going to make sure we post this to facebook and have it on www.fox13news.com. but it's a great way to get how many people at 100 bucks? 20,000. there's over 500,000 people in polk county. it could be easily done. all right. i'm going to leave you now russel and laura with look at these, look at these little chihuahua babies. they are like chihuahua faces. look at this. >> oh, charley. i i know. hello everybody. hello. hi sweetie. there will be a fourth dog in that collection. oh. that's a very nice shelter. it's a very nice shelter. it's beautiful. lovely. all of these dogs up for adoption. cute. see you later, man. bring a couple of those home in your pocket. all right. coming up. significance of that i voted sticker. why it could be responsible for a larger voter turn out.
showing off that election carson and i have seen some terrible ads attacking our mom dana young. for things she never did. it hurts because mom is cool. she is caring, she works hard. whenever something is not right mom is on it. trust us we know from experience. mom put her career on hold for us. to raise our family. she is i'm proud of you mom, we both are.
i'm hillary clinton and i approve this message. donald trump: i could stand in the middle of 5th avenue and shoot somebody and i wouldn't lose any voters, okay? and you can tell them to go f--- themselves! you know, you
could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever... ahh, i don't know what i said, ahh. "i don't remember." he's going like "i don't remember!? this is mike's office. if he doesn't show up, he doesn't get paid. too often marco rubio didn't show up and failed us when he did. i am patrick murphy. to get things done, you've got to show up. you've got to work together.
we've got to start solving problems instead of pointing fingers. i am patrick murphy and i approve this message ((laura 2shot)) because i'll never stop working for you. there's been an historic voter turn out this
year.. 4 different polls show the race is still too close to call here in florida. and welcome back. appear this morning a four different polls show race is still too close to call here in florida. saving north carolina and in new hampshire. these are the only three states still considered to be purple today. there are other states still considered somebody undecided texas biggest swing state and just one the places donald trump needs to win 38 electoral votes available. right now, if is leaning
north carolina 15. arizona 11. that makes total of 111 electoral votes that are still considered up for grabs. as we've said for days now, all eyes are on florida. it will be close to impossible for a candidate to win without our 29 electoral votes. and there are many people waiting in the last minute to make those decision. we sent fox 13's jen epstein to pinellas county where voters or headed to polls now to make their decision which will layout the next four years. and we say it's last election day. lot of people voted early. but this is day to do it, right? >> yeah exactly right. in pinellas county along about over 48 percent of registered voters cast their ballots early. but we've still got a lot of people walking in and out. i know an ebb and flow of voter traffic this morning a few cars trickling in right now. handful of people are ready to cast their ballots as well. of course we're all talking about who will be our next president. hpefully we'll know by the
but there's another race that everyone's talking about locally. wee talking about republican incumbent daifl jollied and former florida governor 13th congressional district now favoring more democratic after recent court ordered redistricting. what are fox news, they rate this seat a fourth most likely seat to change parties. this election cycle. while some are still calling it too close to call a new poll from st. pete polls shows former governor with florida 13th congressional district. 51 percent say they are backing crist backing jolly. both candidates have watch parties in case you like to stop by. and charlie crist watch party pew done cesar. if you're heading tofr to this polling location or any in pinellas county keep in mind polling will be open until 7 o'clock tonight make sure you have voter i d with you check
station you need to do to again in until 7 o'clock tonight make sure you have government issued id back to you guys. so many races o watch. all right, thank you. >> russell. it's 8:32. almost 8th:33. a badge of honor that i voted sticker. but it's more than a way to remind people to get out to vote. political scientists say sticker represents a sense of community while many counties across the country are dropping the sticker their budget. it may actually backfire when it comes to voting. research shows that people may be more likely know that someone else might notice. also many people consider the sticker a thank you. and if people feel appreciated, they may continue to vote. >> so we've made it to election day. after a highly contentious few months we all deserve a big pat on the back, right? something free, might not hurt us either. you are in luck. because ken suarez is live with some of the great freebies you
>> and this is what shows that you have voted. you know before you said this is totally badge of honor and just to be serious for a second how many people and how many countries never get to vote. so it's really important thing to do. today you can use this as something else as well. cold hard cash. you can come to krispy kreme or lot of other area businesses. that are giving away all kinds of free stuff today. and all you have to do is show your i voted sticker. and krispy kreme will give you free sticker and whole lot of different ways. more than dozen businesses are giving away free stuff of all kinds a pat on back for taking part in the democratic process. show you your sticker tee waugh in a flats and they will give you free side dish. flash it a chuck e cheese you buy one pizza they will give you pepperoni pizza second one free appear voters can get a $5 burger. you can use it tampa beer works and get your first pint free

45 percent discount in honor of the 45th president. and as you head to polls there's a chance you will see people in pant suits in majority of them will be women. and all thanks to secret private facebook group called pant suit nation. in just 17 days it's racked up nearly two million followers. you might have guessed, they are hillary clinton enthusiasts strict rules enforced in this group. it would say no negative comments are allowed. people are not allowed to share political articles and you do not have this. you really just have to be a fan of the clothing. majority of the posts in pant suit nation are actually about pant suits wearing them to the polls and wear to buy them. well you sure can't use the weather today to blame to keep you from away have voting, right it's not just here. it's most of the country. weather is going to be fine. it's going to be mild. i think it's freezing in alaska.
which is fantastic. look at this picture we have from the hudson beach camera. just beautiful. if you watch it real close you will see the trees kind of swaying a little bit. it is breezy right at the coastline this morning. but, i'm thinking by the time we get into the afternoon winds slacken up a bit and really turns out to be nice day along the coast. for boater better in afternoon. we've got 70 already in they are first to touch 70. 67 in tampa. 69 in sebring. frostproof 68 in winter haven. we're starting off very similar to yesterday. finishing the same way as well. no issues and a little bit of wind this. clouds, sunshine, very pleasant with high temperature around 82 degrees. tonight back in the mid 60s. now we're going to get a weak
area. enough to trigger some cloud cover tomorrow. but really not much in the way of rain. we'll go mostly cloudy tomorrow. but look what that does, it keeps temperatures in upper 70s rather than getting back to lower 80s. and in general, we're going to upper 70s for much of the next 7 days. including friday, which by way the way veterans day upper 70s for saturday as well. saturday, sunday. and monday. now, our #welivehere mug winning picture. i know months ago during the rainy season. but it is just a spectacular shot from bay shore boulevard by mark ray looking toward davis islands you can see that thunderstorm just falling aapart with sun setting vanessa you get that reddish look. a gorgeous picture. so mark thank you for sending that picture in to us. we appreciate it. on fire. on fire. >> yes. all right dave, thank you. thanks for sending that in, mark.
looks like hillsborough will be pretty backed up eastbound and westbound. east of veterans expressway. following a crash with lane blocks reported. avoid if i could if i were heading that way take turn down alternate routes nearby. let you know as soon as we get some relief here with delays. meantime keen road and nursery in pinellas. we have crash northbound lanes are going to be blocked two of them two more specific. avoid that direction of keen as well. and then with that we'll bet off here to pinellas point drive and two 75. last report a crash we blocked entrance ramp on to northbound interstate there. looks like it cleared and everybody moved into emergency striping there on the roadways. so use caution. but enjoy the clear conditions here. >> all right. vanessa, thank you. toward end of that third trimester expectant mothers are getting pretty uncomfortable. reaching that 40 week mark is more important than ever. new research shows that babies born just one week before the end of a typical pregnancy maybe
problems than those born at full term for years premature babies tend to long list of health problems now we're learning those mothers plan to have baby earlier than due date at 37 weeks could have children that experience health, learning and behavior issues by time they are ready for school. doctors suggest that any mother planning on scheduling their delivery to wait until at least 39 weeks. unless there is a medical reason. believe they have invented a perfect way to shed the pounds. virtual reality. researcher believe that the headsets can hack our senses in way that is reduce our appear site make low fat foods taste great and even trick or brains into thinking we're eating more than we really are. scientist are hoping that this these diet goggles will eventually decrease the amount of food we consume by 10
bigger. make them last longer. spinach is more than just a super food. scientists can now use it in fight against terrorism. coming up next dave o. science pro explains how research new pro explains how research new research this is mike's office. if he doesn't show up,
he doesn't get paid. too often marco rubio didn't show up and failed us when he did. i am patrick murphy. to get things done, you've got to show up. whether it's protecting social security and women's health care or growing the economy, we've got to start solving problems instead of pointing fingers. i am patrick murphy and i approve this message because i'll never stop working for you. i'm hillary clinton and i approve this message. people in the upper echelons of the military
he's going to ask the military
to do. chris matthews: talking of maybe using nuclear weapons, nobody wants to hear that about an american president. well, then, then why are we making them? a foreign policy expert went to advise donald trump, and three times he asked, "if we have them, why can't we use nuclear weapons?" [scoff] okay, you know i was your governor. but there' s some things you may not know.
my dad was a doctor here for 55 years. i swim every morning. and yes, i'm a fan of fans! and in congress i'll get things done for pinellas county. i'll protect
social security and medicare, defend women's healthcare and planned parenthood, and take care of our veterans. i'm charlie crist and i approve this message. because i'll put the people first.
for decades makes you want to the do a jig. i needed to see that. i for decades people have wonder if there life on other planets. >> but if another life form does try to reach out to us, where are we supposed to do? >> dave o. the science pro. what is protocol? >> you know what? here's the thing. you guys have heard of the uk search for extra terrestrial intelligence.
they say that they don't have a particular protocol. but what they've decided is if signal comes in and that they know this, know to be an alien message that they are going to share it openly and allow people all over the world to try to understand it. but then at that point, as you opened pandora's box, people are going to start sending signal this. assuming the laws of physics go through the whole universe, right, and nothing changes at all, let me give an example. aliens for instance are 100 light years away. they send a message it going to get 100 years old we try to get back it will take another 100 years. hello, hi. that took 200 years. unless there's something that we
it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. but their plan is, if they know something they are going to tell us. you think that's the truth? >> what do you guys think? well i mean, you know it sounds like they have a plan. well, i hope it's friendly. right. i hope they don't just show up. that's the thing. i mean, you know that would the worth part. i mean you've got 100 years on me there. door. what this article says they believe we would get a signal before somebody would just show up. >> like hey we're on our way. i don't know. it just seems like more and more of these stories are coming out. are they not telling us something? >> they've watching tv they are not coming. >> they've watching tv. they are not coming. but you know, we made it to all of hollywood movies that aren't helping either.
you it's, it's study done out of mit. so it took me three or four times to read this article to understand it. but it is fascinating. and all has to do with spinach. spinach now as you mentioned before spinach no longer super food. they've done this mit scientists have embedded in the leaves carbon nano tubes. okay. now those carbon this is the most amazing thing. they are basically sensors that canady text explosives and then wirelessly relay that information to a smart phone. now i don't know how practical this is. let me tell you why. because i mean what are you going to do? just bring spinach plants all over world and set them in places see if there explosive. there's more of n an underlying tone. what i believe they are trying to do is trying to communicate
for humans to communicate with plants. now stay with me. i might have lost you a bit. okay. so here we go. if there's any explosive molecules in the ground water, that could take ten minutes for plant to draw them up. they would mitt a signal you can get on your smart phone. i think what they are trying to do try to find way to detect other types of pollution and/or drought. let me give you an example. let's say something gets into local ground plants within 10, 15, 20 minutes. you might be able to save them, you know versus them all dying. or, if you know whether plant will detect a drought is coming, it's basically their way of communicating to us. that's what these carbon nano tubes can do. i don't know why they started the study by trying to find explosives. because yeah. it has to be in ground for that. >> yeah but i think that was the
in to realize. >> until they got the grant. >> that's how they got the grant. but think about this, if you can have plants as farmers that can de detect drought and detect something ground water say mercury ahead of time or as it is happening you can save a lot of money. you can get better crop yields. i think that's the end result from this study. it's almost like our way of learning how to communicate with plants. because they can't talk back to until now. i mean it's such a fascinating study. we were excited to talk about this >> yeah. it is interesting. really? >> okay. well you really did explain it well. it's from mit. okay. well. got it. have fun, guys. >> all right. thank you. >> all right. to charley we go. yes. my head's hurting right now. charleys what's going on man. i will make your heat stop
something cute. let me get this out of my pocket. there we go. oh. by the way that was joke do not put kitties in your pocket. kitty was really not in my pocket. that's cute. i mean you can try to put kitty in your pocket but you will only do it once. look at that. that franklin ladies and gentlemen. fran ling i being foster we will talk to frank foster mommy to offer fostering services to our local an celebrate, yes it's election day but it also happens to be national animal shelter appreciation week. we're appreciating the folks at the humane society of polk county. meow thing going on there.
