a day of thanks.. and a day of giving.. we're live this morning.. as volunteers with metro ministries put the finishing touches on the largets feast in tampa bay... plus.. as many of us get ready to sit down with friends and family at the dinner table.. we'll show you some of the happy holiday homecomings.. at tampa international.. and.. an inspiring morning.. about how a bot with autism is finding the best in himself.. despite his challenges.. its now 5:?? thanks for joining us.. happy thanksgiving! i'm russell

and i'm jen epstein. let's start off with a check of the forecast, with dave. (dave pinellas county deputies have released a name this morning.. of the man they say shot and killed in lealman last night.. they say.. 43-year-old

arrived at a home on mallory drive.. after deputies told him to put it down... they say he yelled back: "your going to have to kill me".. both deputies tyler green, and brandon wede repeated the commands.. before deputy green opened fire several times.. beavers died minutes later. neighbors say he was a veteran..and had previous issues with alcohol.. deputy green will be placed on routine paid administrative leave as the investigation continues. in st pete.. an argument between friends led to one of them losing his life. pete police were called to a home on 40th avenue north for reports of a gunshot.. they found 58-year-old randal wright with a gunshot wound in his chest.. he later died at hospital.. wrights friend -- "johnny alan moore", had been living on the property.. tampa police spotted him near m-l-k last night and arrested him in connection to the shooting.. this morning.. he is facing charges of second degree murder. the f-b-i says a college student.. accused of randomly killing a couple in martin

of hallucinogenic drugs in his system.. according to the report.. 19-year old austin harrouff did have alcohol and trace amounts of marijuana in his system... he was arrested on august 15th.. for killing 59-year-old john stevens and his 53-year-old wife, michelle mishcon... afterwards.. he allegedly told deputies that they wouldn't find any drugs in his system.. harrouff has pleaded not guilty to the first degree murder charges he faces.. president-elect donald trump addressed the nation via you-tube.. ahead of the thanksgivi it -- he called on people to move past their differences... and move forward as one country while the president-elect didn't detail any of his plans in the holiday address he added that with the political campaign over... it's time for a "great national campaign..

meantime.. trump continues to appoint top administration officials... as he readies for the january inauguration. on wednesday - he named "betty devos" for secretary of education... she leads the "american federation of children"... which supports charter schools and voucher programs... he also appointed south carolina governor nikki haley to u-s ambassador to the united nations.. both women will have to be confirmed by the senate.. it's the main part of the thanksgiving meal.. but the cost of turkey is going up.. and a dollar here or there co helping some of tampa bay's most in need today.. is metro ministries.. shayla reaves is live at the holiday tent in downtown tampa, where they plan to feed thousands...

thanks, shayla.. final preparations are underway this morning for the most famous thanksgiving parade in the country. these giant balloons will float down sixth avenue in new york for the 90th macy's new balloons this year include, diary of a wimpy kid and trolls. felix the cat is also back. the famous cat was one of the first ever cartoon balloons..,, and has been missing from the parade since world war two.. three and a half million people are expected to attend that parade today.. and security will be tight - police barricades are up along the parade route.. earlier this month,threats from isis militants called for people to carry out attacks at the event. police and city officials are assuring parade-

a tragic update out of michigan... the wayne state university officer shot tuesday night in detroit -- has passed away. officals say officer "collin rose" died from a gunshot to the head. he was shot in the line of duty while investigating a string of car break-ins.. a person of interest is in custody this morning -- but no official charges have been filed. the u-s navy says personal data of more than 130- thousand sailors has been

hewlett packard employee.. working on a navy contract. hewlett packard informed the navy about the breach, on october 27th. the hackers were able to grab sensitive information.. like social security numbers... the navy is in the process of notifying the affected sailors... president obama has pardoned the last thanksgiving turkey of his presidency... it's an executive responsibility he says is one of his favourites. the president said his daughters sasha and malia were absent... because they couldn't take any more of their

"america maria hernandez" was born in colombia, back in 19-17.. she was brought to the u-s daughters, in 19-88 well yesterday -- she signed her naturalization certificate.. and took the oath of allegiance during a ceremony in her living room. surrounded by family members... she smiled and said she was very happy. hernandez had 12 children.. and now has 22 grandchildren,

a bay area city has a new fashionable title this morning.. "architectural digest".. has named st. petersburg as one of the "top 5 design destinations" for december.. the magazine describes st. pete as "sun and sand with a dash of culture"... and "a small city that has been making big strides in the arts." they pointed to the 30 street art murals around down-town.. and the handful of museums... including the

collection.. other cities named: include havana, cuba.. buenos aires, berlin, and san sebastian in spain.. when people think about thanksgiving... they may imagine family enjoying a turkey feast.. while that's certainly a key part of the american tradition.. it doesn't tell the whole story around the holiday weekend... for example.. did you know that 95 percent of us will spend the holiday with family?.. that number ties it with christmas.. for the most family-oriented holiday.. then games on tv.. according to nielsen.. 32 and a half million people watched the dallas cowboys face off against the carolina panthers last year on turkey day.. and then there's shopping! 151 million of us will start our holiday shopping between today and sunday.. spending about 320 dollars per person.. come cyber monday.. over 11 billion dollars will have been spent online.. and better yet, during this season of giving.. 116 million dollars was raised for charities worldwide.. on the

the shift accepting the dinner deliveries.. will be the same shift scheduled to work today.. some people will work up an appetite this morning.. during the annual tampa turkey trot.. events start at 7 this morning.. begining with the 5-k.. all races begin at keene road, just south of gulf to bay.. and end at clearwater high school.. proceeds and food collected at today's races will help support local charities.. the 'red kettle campaign'.. will get a special kickoff today.. the salvation army hopes to inspire people to give.. during this afternoon's cowboys and redskins game... money raised in the kettles goes towards helping those in need... by providing shelter, food and much more this holiday season.. if you're lucky enough, today.. means time with family. for those with family coming in from out of town... tampa international has been filled with happy holiday homecomings. fox 13's evan axelbank met some people haven't seen those family members in months
