massive catch. ♪ >> live from center city in philadelphia, this is fox 29 news at 6:00. search is on for a deadly hit-and-run driver. atlantic county where it happened and the young woman died right there in the street. good evening, i'm lucy noland. >> i'm done timmeney in for tonight pour iain page. that woman's mother now speaking out about the tragedy. she spoke to our bruce gordon who is live in galloway township tonight. bruce? >> reporter: dottie service told me she has seen stories of fatal hit-and-run accidents before, many times. but this time the tragedy has struck her family in the form of her oldest daughter and the pain is numbing. >> i'm sorry. >> report roar long lifetime friends rapid dottie service in their loving embrace she reflected on the waybread

brought them to her home there. what do you do to carry on? >> i don't know. one day at a time. one minute at a time right now. >> reporter: for dottie service time stopped around 10:20 monday night. when her 27 year old daughter aubrey was mode down by a hit-and-run driver in galloway township. she was crossing white horse pike at sixth avenue in the crosswalk and with the light when an older model silver suv ran a red, struck her and sped off. dottie seize her daughter had battled addictions in her life but was on the road to recovery. >> she was headed in the right direction, you know, she was doing better than she had in the last, you know, couple of years. >> reporter: on tuesday, police visited a gas station at the intersection in hopes of finding security camera video of the accident. dottie's message to that hit run driver -- >> dot right thing. turn yourself in. you know you hit something. >> reporter: as dottie paged through photo album filled with pictures of aubrey as child, she

couldn't help but think of aubrey's own children. she was estranged from her seven-year-old daughter joe nessa and six-year-old son derek but she was still their mother. >> what do you say to them? i don't even want to tell them. >> as for aubrey herself mom describe her as troubled girl with a good and kind heart. >> you had high hopes that aubrey was turning things arou around? >> yeah. yup. guess we'll never know now. >> reporter: again, witnesses describe that striking vehicle as a silver colored suv late model maybe in the 1990's perhaps a chevy tahoe or suburban. certainly would have front end damage, most likely on the driver's side of the front end. if you know anything about the accident, or have seen that video around today, give galloway township police a call.

grieving mother needs your help. dawn? >> all right, bruce, maybe that driver had come forward. monsignor william lynn is out of the state prison tonight but he will be facing a new trial. a judge today agreed to release lynn after the state supreme court throughout his conviction and granted him new trial. lynn is the first u.s. roman catholic church official ever charged and convicted of helping to shield oiled child molesters. prosecutors say the 65-year-old endangered a boy by transferring a suspected predator priest to his parish. today district attorney seth williams will will he try the former church officials even though his convict has been overturned twice. lawyers on both sides speaking briefly after today's hearing. >> it's the da's office position that this level of institutional sexual abuse and the coverup that ensued is something that the victim deserve justin the people of the commonwealth deserve to definitely into this and have this matter come to a conclusion in accordance with the law.

>> da has just been that way for long, long time, and to the extent that, you know, some of the -- some of the material in his briefs have just been, you know, over the top i think inaccurate and dishonest. >> monsignor lynn has been in and out of prison and has served nearly three years of his sentence. he would have been up for parole in october. now he is due back in court on thursday to get a new trial da date. dozen young girls kept inside a bucks county home. authorities say traded for financial help and now the three people charged are indeed head to do trial. in today's preliminary hearing the judge ordered the girls parents and another man to stand trial. prosecutors say daniel and seville la gave their 14-year-old daughter to leonardo dicaprio plan in exchange for financial help. authorities say cap man who lives in feasterville admitted he impreganted her twice. several other young girls found in kaplan's home also the couple's daughters. they face charges of a child endanger many, prosecutors have charged kaplan with sexual

assault. all three face arraignment in september. turning now to your fox 29 weather authority. here's life look along the ben franklin parkway. it's been a much cooler start to the week after last week's heat. pretty picture here. good days are expected ahead. let's head over now to meteorologist kathy orr. it looks like we got great week ahead, kathy. >> looking good, dawn a couple days of lower humidity and temperatures that are actually blow normal for a change. behind me you can see ultimate doppler and we have one lonely cell moving into lancaster county. otherwise, fairly dry out there with increasing sunshine. right now in philadelphia, 80. 80 degrees in wilmington. as you can look little bit further to the west, lancaster 74. reading 76. but look at the poconos. sitting at 69 degrees. so very refreshing there. threw this evening temperatures will be falling through the 70s mainly clear. even by the 11:00 o'clock hour with temperature of 71. coming up with the seven day forecast we'll talk about the break from humidity. how long that lasts. also, seasonal temperatures for

awhile and timing weekend storms we know there's lots to do and not lot of time to get outside. summer only about a month left. we'll time those storms coming up with the seven day. >> all right, kathy. we'll see you then. a final tribute to a fallen hero today mourn interns attending funeral services for philadelphia firefighter gabriel lee. lee passed i was way on jul july 23rd while working his shift at engine 50 ladder 12 in north philadelphia. hundreds of firefighters and friends at the services today to say their goodbyes. the coroner has not yet declared lee's cause of death. he was a 17-year veteran of the fire department. >> you decide 2016 and candidates for u.s. senate are trying to sway as many voters as they can and with less than 100 days until election day, those hoping to represent pennsylvania in the senate are making a whole lot of campaign stops. >> democrat katie mcginty and senator pat toomey both in the area today talking with voters. toomey was in haverford, delaware county. previewing national night out activities. he spoke about the importance of

police community relations. meanwhile democrat katie mcginty was in levittown, bucks county talking to seniors about social security and making lives better for all families. >> when families work hard and they can't get ahead, it's mor morally wrong and i believe it's a threat to the security of this country because we're only as strong abroad as we are at home, and we're only as strong at home as our families are strong. >> handful of protesters gathered in the parking lost the restaurant where mcginty was speaking. president obama says republican presidential nominee donald trump is unfit to be president. the president is even urging gop leaders to withdrawal their support for trump. >> the republican nominee is unfit to serve as president. i said so last week. and he keeps on proving it. if you are repeatedly having to

say in very strong terms what he has said is unacceptable, why are you still endorsing him? >> president obama criticized trump for negative comments he made about a gold star family who spoke at the dnc last week. and he also says trauma many lax knowledge about critical issues. chris christie also speaking about the gop nominee today reporters asked the new jersey governor about trauma many criticizing the parents of an american soldier killed by sue i'd bomber ooh err rack and the governor says it's not okay. >> you're not going to find me of being critical of mr. machines khan even if i disagree with anyone particular statement they might make. it's just inappropriate for us in this context to be criticizing them and i'm not going to participate in that. >> khan gave emotional tribute to his son at the dnc that was also critical of donald trump. since them, a feud has erupted on twitter. meanwhile trump was back on the campaign trail in virginia today just outside the nation's

capitol in ashburn. >> he went after rival hillary clinton but tonight he's getting some attention for booting a crying baby from that rally. >> don't worry about that, baby. i love babies. i love babies. i hear that baby crying. actually i was only kidding. you can get the baby out of here. that's all right. don't worry. i think you believe believe me i love having baby crying while i'm speaking. >> another child cried in the rally but calmed down before trauma many asked that j leave. meanwhile hillary clinton's running mate senator tim kaine spent the day campaigning in florida. vice-presidential nominee speaking at a rally at college of hospitality and culinary management in daytona beach. the virginia senator is laying out the campaign's plans to build a stable economy that work for everyone. hillary clinton is back on the road tomorrow holding a rally in colorado. here's life look in westampton township, burlington

who do you talk to for military advice right now? i'm hillary clinton and i approved this message. well, i watch the shows. i mean i really see a lot of great - you know, when you watch your show and all of the other shows... while donald trump watched tv, as secretary of state, hillary clinton negotiated a cease fire in gaza. a reduction in nuclear weapons... took on vladimir putin... and stood up against the trafficking of human beings. a steady leader in an unsteady world. >> wildcats down the jersey shore i do mean. camera caught the whole thing. fox 29 captured this video of two boys teenagers realing a shark at ventnor city beach. hannah tells us the boys were on the peer when they hooked the shore 200 feet offshore.

the boys did release the shark back into the water. it did swim away. they got quite a story to tell. >> she sure do. big shark. happening now all around the country and right here at home, residents are getting to know the law enforcement community little better. it's all part of the annual night out and organizers are hoping that the gatherings get everyone more focused on building saver communities. >> bill anderson in westampton tonight an event is just now getting underway. bill, it looks fun. >> reporter: it is. it's a great time. i feel like i'm channeling my inner kathy orr. i should tell you all about the weather here on national night out. we're here in westampton as you can see if you look around, they have all sorts of things going on. they've got fun lasers they've got a dunk tank, they're selling food, they're giving away food. the actual focus of the national night out is getting the community in line in a partnership with the police. they want to have better relationships and to talk a little bit about actually a friend of the show and the best

name in law enforcement lieutenant roger rogers is here with us. tell us what this is about and the importance of it. >> basically, national night out is about having partnerships with the community and the police and also the local business owners it get people together under one roof, under one function, having fun, talking, having conversations and building bridges. >> reporter: it's important now because you've been on talking to us about this. at this difficult time we're living in right now stabbing relationships with the police and the community helps do you your job better and kind of makes live in general better for the community absolutely. this is the most critical function to do in this day and age is community out reach such as this. you know, put down your badge, be human, have fun, crack jokes, eat pizza have a good time. >> reporter: people are invit invited to come outly how long is everything going on tonight. 9:00 o'clock. firework about 8:30, 8:45. come out it's not too late come on out. don't cook dinner. come eat on us. >> reporter: we've got the mayor right here. were want to give him some love

(laughter). >> all right. >> reporter: let's do it. >> back to your fox 29 weather authority. here's live look at old city. it's been a comfortable day around the region we're hoping to see more of the same in the days a head. meteorologist kathy orr is tracking your forecast started out a little gray, kathy, but turned into nice day. >> yeah it's going to be nice evening as well. maybe if we hurry we can drive over and put howard in the dunk tank. >> oh! >> i may get in trouble for that one. take look behind me. our camera shaking little bit. the blue sky is increasing the humidity is lowering and if you're going to the phils game tonight or have any plans outdoors, it's going to be a really nice evening. the high temperature in philadelphia made it to 84. the temperature right now is 80. dew point at 66. it's much lower than it's been. dew points in the 60s.

sticky in the 70s like dover that's oppressive. we're looking for some 50s and we will have those numbers and more comfortable air mass during the day tomorrow. fair weather high pressure will nose down toward the south and west from new england and that's what will be bringing us real pleasant change with lower humidity and temperatures that are actually below normal. the normal high this time of year is 87. tomorrow's high temperature only 84 degrees but boy will it feel comfortable. overnight tonight partly cloudy less humid 67 in the city. in the suburbs going for 62. during the day tomorrow, 84 degrees. partly sunny. noticeably less humid and very comfortable with winds out of the east at about five to 10 miles an hour. now, we are looking at the month of august as a whole. generally it's not as hot. and there is fewer severe storms. the reason why you have that jet stream riding well to the north. there's less instability in the atmosphere. the sun not as strong. you don't have as much heat at the surface and it is hot above but still the combination is not

conducive to severe weather that's the good news. so expect some heat but not as many turbulent days as we've had in june and july. so that's the good news with august. extended forecast calls for temperatures in the 80s. 90s for saturday and a few storms possible sunday 89. looking ahead to next monday and tuesday, back into the 80s. shore temperatures starting off in the 80s and then getting toward 90 on saturday. staying quite hot into next week. good looking week if you took it off for vacation. we'll zen it back to you. >> darn, is it too late for mow to take it off for vacation? >> yes. >> thanks, kathy. >> howard eskin here talking football. >> talking football and why the phillies didn't do anything yesterday. the eagles need players to step up this year. they're depending on a second year player that needs to play big. hear from jordan hicks and the phillies general manager matt klentak tries to explain why this player is still on the phillies and is not been traded. that will be coming up in sports.

♪ one eagles player that has high expectations from a lot of people that would be linebacker jordan hicks. now his last year was a very good one in his rookie year. until he tore his by september muscle in game 10 against the cowboys. hicks and the eagles are nine days away from a game. that will be next thursday against tampa. that's here but the practices

get a little longer now. they will now go almost three hours at practice. jordan hicks is now healthy and the starting middle linebacker this season. someone the eagles are countering on the hope he stays healthy. year two is a lot different than his rookie year. >> having a year under your belt. kind of getting a feel for everything. still with changes. coaching changes and new defense and offense and everything. um, brings a little bit of a newness to it but, you know, the difference in, um, you know, go out there and stay calm and keep your head cool is a lot better. >> the phillies they open series again the san francisco giants tonight. won't be easy against giants pitcher madison baumgardner for the phillies it's the day after they traded nobody at the trade deadline. now offensively the phillies have real issues tonight herrara is not in the starting lineup. hitting under .200 still the all star break. what the fans want to know is why the phillies team didn't

make trade? injury knee hellickson seemed like the best option for a trade but nothing was done by the gm matt klentak. >> sometimes you feel like you're making progress towards a deal and the team starts to back it wage sometimes teams start chasing you and we start to back away. there's an element of games man ship it to. we felt like we were, you know, getting close to something a couple of times but reality you never exactly now how close you were getting at the end of the day we are were never presently formally with anything we felt made sense. >> as far as the phillies are concern. first pitches of the game can be bad. this one was john mcenroe at the mets game to new york. the lefty winds and he delivers and he throws it hard that's pretty good for a tennis player. it was close to the strike if the umpire gave it to him that's great. but -- yeah. >> wow. >> i'll bet you he practiced for two weeks before he through th that. >> competitive nature of his. >> a lot of players bounce the
