tv Fox Morning News at 4A FOX August 15, 2016 4:00am-5:00am EDT
our top story this morning is the weather. >> okay. our sweltering heat wave is getting longer with more days above 90 ahead, when we will see relief. >> just really important that people realize how dangerous this is. >> and these hot temperatures are blamed for three deaths. >> this morning what the city is doing to make sure you stay safe during the dangerous heat wave. teenager shot and killed driving in the local neighborhood and what his family is now saying. family of five dead in the tragic murder suicide. today we could learn more details about who actually pull the trigger. breaking overnight woman shot multiple times what police say mate have led to that shooting. >> it is monday, august 152,016th. >> thanks for waking up with us. you saw video we have played
of someone running up museum steps, rocky steps, in like a who hade. >> last night usane bolt took first place three consecutive years, fastest man in the world speaking of running. >> what was that time ridiculous. >> justin gate lynn was .08 seconds behind them but that makes the biggest difference. >> faster than a the georgia lynn gun. >> you have been watching the olympics great time. >> those guys can run faster then i ever will. pretty good, yeah. not bad. speaking of running do it early because we have excessive heat. that continues today, put the number of the day at six, and the excessive heat warning not as wide of an area as it was, it is still in effect and been extended through tuesday. the heat and humidity may not be as bad as yesterday. we have seen the worst of it but we are still looking in the temperatures in the 90's with heat index values close to a hundred today and tomorrow. not been as warm here
overnight, it has dropped below 80. that is a good thing. when temperature does not drop below 80 the heat build and build and each structures that dot no cool off overnight. cool they are morning thanks to some rain yesterday especially north and west. might net is it feels more comfortable stepping outside. enjoy it for now. ultimate doppler is clear but there will be a few showers and storms coming through the area later today. our dew point is still above 07 degrees. not quite as high. the notice it is not quite as hot or humid today. but still though enough, hot enough to put us in that category for excessive heat warning. into the 90's today. mid 90's. 95 degrees. there will be storms around not this afternoon but later tonight overnight tonight could be around by tomorrow morning. so that will get you started with the weather this morning. any road issues. we will go over to bob. >> good morning, getting you started on a monday 4:02. we had an early morning accident on the vine street expressway. it looks like somebody was going the wrong way got on the
parkway, and, crashed up there at broad street, philadelphia fire fighters took care of business, everybody out of there. vine street expressway opened this morning, they did not do the construction last night. we're nice and quite it this morning, no problems on the schuylkill, blue route, turnpike, looking good there, and lets check with the mass transit situations the trolley blitz all weekend long until about 5:00 o'clock this morning. there has been no service in the tunnels, so subway surface trolleys have been transferring at 40th and market this market frankford and broad street subway they are running shuttle buses until 5:00 o'clock and once 5:00 o'clock kicks in although we run trains every 20810 minutes we have free parking at novacare complex or at frankford transportation center and then again those trains will run eight to ten minutes. over the weekend septa tweaking the schedule a little bit more for some of the regional rail lines, i don't think this weekend they have added new trains or a new train, but they have adjusted timetables.
so definitely worth a click to either septa.org or our web site fox 29.com and make sure that you have the the latest updated schedule, again, they have been adjusting things as we go here on the regional rails. chris and lauren back over to you. we are in for another day of of extreme heat on what is the sixth day of this august heat wave. >> so far, three people have died as a result of all this heat. steve keeley has latest from center city, steve. >> reporter: we're at one of the places people choose to keep cool there is hi running off franklin square fountain we have franklin fountain old time old time ice cream store down the street on market street from the station, this is the franklin square fountain on 24 hours a day. knowing this because we are across from police headquarters is there a light mist that runs off maybe a rainbow. this is almost like being down the shore in a way, there is a breeze through here no big buildings around. this is where some older folks and some very smart folks living in chinatown come every
morning often before the sun comes up to get their morning exercise in. just walking around the park. only time of the day you should really exercise in weather like this. it is a bonus, we have ben franklin bridge for you all morning if you need any shots of that and you can see clear sailing, clear skies, no fog, no problems, this morning, with visibility, that means air is pretty clear. maybe it feels cooler when air is clear not all fogged up like before. but lets look at our scenes we shot yesterday at the height of the heat, and the sun was really beating down on everybody, but you are standing there waiting for a bus and when those buses you don't need go by the exhaust, engine going by make it feel like 20 more degrees hotter then on that curve side, that philadelphia corporation for aging, talking about what you can do to prevent any further deaths. we have got 247 summer but three in this current heat wave, ages of the people latest one just 59 years old a
man who had diabetes and maybe some heart problems but then just 59. sixty-seven. and then 82 were the other two. unlike other events like if you climb mount everest you get acclimated to the thin air you don't get acclimated and deal with the heat better as these heat waves wear on one after the other and this one being very long. it actually takes more of a detriment effect on your body so each day of the heat wave gets more dangerous. >> plenty of liquid, light clothing, light activity, cool bath or shower in the middle of the day can change your body temperature but key toys get out of the heated environment and apartment, a house, then it is instead of being hundred degrees outside it is 115 degrees in the house if i are not running an air conditioning. a fan will not help in that type of weather. just get yourself out of that environment. go to somebody elses house with air conditioning, go shopping, even riding a september bus, anything like
that, get your body cooled off with air conditioning. >> reporter: great advice from the philadelphia corporation of aging who is busy every day during this heat wave taking questions on their heat line which is a very hot the line during events like this. chris and lauren, going back to the 70's and happy days when fonz got a library card everybody went and got library cards. he was most popular person on tv like bob kelly. so if bob kelly got a library card all of the viewers would get one. if you haven't been to the library any a while, free reading material, free use of the computer and free air conditioning and they have it crank down to the high 60's, you might want to put a sweater on it will be so cool in your local library. check it out, just an idea to go to keep cool. >> a few of them even call the free librariy steve keeley, thank you. steve just mentioned this heat hot line opens up again this morning and it starts at 8:30. write this nim down, the
health department nurses are manning phones to help with heat-related problems. that number is (215)765-9040. you can find that number and more fun on our web site at fox 29.com. make sure you are prepared with the fox 29 weather app. sees live radar and get alerts sent to your phone just search for it in the apple and google will play stores. we have to turn to to we have breaking news where a woman is rushed to the hospital after being shot multiple times. it happened just before midnight at waken and sol street. woman was shot twice in the leg. shooter walk up, fired at least ten round into that van, before taking off. victim is recovering at aria torresdale in stable condition. marijuana was found inside that van so police believe this may have been drug related. okay. happening this morning closing arguments are set to to begin in the trial of kathleen kane. >> jurors could start deliberate to go day. dave kinchen live outside the montgomery county courthouse, dave, good morning. >> reporter: good morning.
the jury could indeed get this case today the at the end of the closing arguments capping a week of compelling testimony in a trial that placed attorney general kathleen kane against two former aids, prosecutors will likely restate their claim that kane leak secret grand jury information to a newspaper for political pay back amid squabbles with other prosecutors and then later lying about the leaks under oath. now last week kane declined to take the stand herself. this was late last week and her defense rested their case without calling witnesses or even presenting any evidence. her lawyers said that there is in credible evidence that shows that kane did anything criminal, testimony including her political advisor who said that kane's security team checked him for a wire in the philly garage and even wiped his wallet, cell even if and keys just so they can meet and fix a story for a grand jury. that is just some of the incredible testimony about political squabbles and back room dealings gone wrong.
kane is working without a law license right now, and, of course, it was suspended during the duration of this case. again, closing arguments set to take today and jury could get the case today as well. back to you. >> dave, thank you. 4:10 is the time. search is on for a 16 year-old boy's killer. police say the teen was shot over the weekend in kensington. investigators say he was found shot in the back inside of this silver car near orleans and ruth street yesterday afternoon. boy was rush to temple university hospital where he died. police were on the scene three blocks to the south when shots may have been fired. despite challenges at home he was about to start his junior year in high school and he played football. >> he was a good kid, all he do i go to my brother house, i look in the basement, all of his cleats, everything down they played ball, that is what he do. that is what he do. he go to school and try his best, that is all, all he wanted to to was live life.

>> state police delivered food, other supplies to people stranded by the high waters but despite destruction some say severe weather is bringing out the best in their communities with people stepping up to donate items to those who are now in need. >> the people in the community that came together, you know, you need socks, you need shoes, anybody need personal items, you know, if you don't know how to find it they will tell you where to find it. it is just coming together right now. >> forecasters say more rain is possible for parts of the louisiana today and tomorrow. it is last thing they need, right. >> we're dealing with heat here. how much longer? >> just a few more days. i have the end of the seven day forecast. we are seeing the peak though and maybe not as hot and humid today. you can see that down below 80. we have not seen numbers like that for a while. seventy-seven in philadelphia, wrightstown, lower 70's north and west. you may notice humidity down a bit. a few showers and storms last night we will see repeat of
that again tonight but later, so not quite in the afternoon but maybe by tonight, overnight tonight, rumble of thunder or see a few in other showers. dew point above 70. temperatures at 77. that wind is 10 miles an hour west northwest and that brought in dryer air. even though we are talking about it not being hot or humid still hot enough where we have excessive heat warnings in effect today and tomorrow, more storms coming in overnight tonight, mainly thort and west and, however, the storms will be later. you can see here in the afternoon we're clear, these western storms coming in and maybe pushing south, overnight tonight, afternoon there could be north and west and then pass by over dover and new jersey but tomorrow morning they are all clear, tomorrow afternoon, well, humidity comes back. the storm comes in brings in more heat and humidity. heat index higher tomorrow, closer to 100 degrees. that is why excessive heat
warning continues but the storms tomorrow do have risk to be severe especially north and western suburbs there where they have a slight risk for strong or severe storms. seven day forecast we are looking for the 80's, and they are there for one day though, thursday not quite as humid, and that might end current heat wave until then our heat and humidity are back here but, look at the end of the seven day forecast, just a few showers on saturday with temperatures in the up to 90. we are down to 87. still warm but in longer hot over weekend. good morning, bob kelly. >> good morning, everybody. 4:17 on this monday, a live look at the schuylkill expressway, no problems coming in or out of the city looking good here at spring garden street n construction on the overnight, and which is good news and any construction that was out i know they were going to work out near the turnpike. they got cancelled when those thunder boomers rolled in at 9:30 last night. otherwise coming back from the the shore this morning as we always see on the monday on a

late overnight tonight working their way from the west. it should be a dry day to day. future cast is showing a few cloud around, today and we will start to see some of that rain getting closer there across maryland, and virginia, and this is 9:00 o'clock tonight not much in the way of showers and storms today but overnight tonight we could see a few showers working their way through the area. our temperatures in the upper 70's, so not quite as hot, dropping below 80. see that number drop below 80 because once it does and does not and heat continues to build and build inside the buildings you cannot cool off tonight. we are heating up today but not quite as hot or humid but still hot enough to keep the excessive heat warning going to day and tomorrow. there is relief in the seven day forecast and i will show you when coming up. lets head over to bob to see what the road look like this morning. >> good morning, dave. live look at 42 freeway for gang coming back from the shore and everybody likes to stay extra night especially in the summertime coming right
back from the beach, in problems at all on the parkway, expressway we are looking good here at the freeway no problems the blue route for the gang coming back from say, poconos, as you rolled through conshohocken looking good. now septa has made service adjustments over weekend. lansdale doylestown line they have added two new trains one this morning 6:23 out of penlynn station, another one for afternoon gang 4:10 leaving suburban. on the four lines here west trenton, media, warminster and lansdale line their service adjustments of five or ten. they are tweaking service trying to get best out of what we have to deal with here with the shortage of cars and regional rail situation. so check out the schedule and make sure you have a new one. we have a lincoln fox 29.com, trolley blitz underway until about 5:00 o'clock this morning where there is no services in the tunnels in center city. subway service trolley lines are transferring over to buses, until 5:00 o'clock,
actually, and then trains, between the 40th and center city. in problems in south jersey. most of the construction rained out with these storms that rolled through here late last night and i know philly international has some delays, late last night but so far this morning, we have hit reset button and we are good to go as of right now. chris and lauren, back over to you. 4:32. we are in the fifth heat wave of the season. the it is already deadly. >> three people have already died from heat-related issues. steve keeley live, with more on this, hi steve. >> reporter: that third person yesterday was announced by the health department. the announcement came after we talk to the philadelphia corporation for aging who i had mentioned that we had two more women die. third one was a man. man and 21 women. fifty-nine for the man. sixty-seven for it would hand. twenty-eight for the third woman. that is number seven for heat-related deaths this summer as we have a fifth heat wave right now, that doesn't
seem to want to end. as each day passes, with another day of above 90, the danger increases even if the temperature does not because people are having an cumulative effect of having the each day wear down on already people with health problems. we had congestive heart failure and diabetes in the man yesterday, also cardiac problems in those two women. if you are already suffering from a debilitating effects of a disease this heat will make that way worse, and if you have young children, also, you will watch out for them. only time to do any kind of exercise is right now before the sun comes up, if you can get up and get out or after the sun goes down. do not try to do anything strenuous in the middle of the day is the warning from the philadelphia corporation of aging who also rebehind you that even if you don't have a swimming pool in the backyard or access to the beach you will all have a swimming pool if you have a bath tub. fill it the up and just sit in
the tub and that will cool you down. here's more from mr. gallagher at pca. >> it is dangerous when it gets this hot for this many days in the row. we have seen, two people that died in this past week because of this heat event. there were four others earlier in the week. these are preventable deaths. we are trying to make sure everybody checks on each other especially isolated people, seniors, people with disability, people with certain ailment where their body is not telling them they are dealing well with the heat. we will give them tips on how to keep cool. we have a list of senior centers opened extended hours and weekend which are normally not opened and we have a medical staff here. if somebody is experiencing a medical condition right new we can get them right to the nurse and triage them over phone and try to find out how they are doing. >> reporter: reasons those deaths could have been preventable is these people were in homes without air conditioning. and sometimes he said, having a fan is worse then not having anything because people with fans tend to stay inside and they say it will keep the hot
air out by keeping windows shot and instead create a convex oven effect and these people suffering from any kind of a problem make it the way worse and deadly by staying inside. so just staying outside on your stoop will be cooler and help then staying inside your house. so good advice from the philadelphia corporation of aging, and lauren and chris, i know you guys have the hot line number that is called a heat line but boy, is it busy during days like this. >> it opens upstarting at 8:30 this morning. health department nurses are manning these phones. the number is one more time (215)765-9040. by the way you can also find this on our web site at fox 29.com w these dangerous temperatures stay prepared with our fox 29 weather app, see live radar and get alerts sent right tour phone just search for apple and google play stores. now to breaking news out of frankford where a with man was rush to the hospital after being shot multiple times this happened on wakeling and sol
street. woman was shot twice in the leg she was sitting in the van. police tell thaws the shooter walked up, fired ten round. victim is in aria torresdale in stable condition. marijuana was found inside the van so police believe this may have been a drug related shooting. happening today closing arguments in the criminal trial of state attorney general kathleen kane. >> defense not calling a single witness. on friday both side rested their cases. dave kinchen live outside montgomery county courthouse where jury could start deliberating as early as today. >> reporter: that is right, really lack of witnesses called from the defense was a shocking development, shock over really no development over in that case. we can tell you that the jury is set to get the case today after closing arguments, commenced capping a week of compelling testimony in a trial that has hit attorney general kathleen kaine two former aids. prosecutors will restate their claim that kane leak secret
grand jury information to a newspaper for political pay back with other prosecutors and then lied about it, under oath. last week kane declined to take the stand herself. she said that she didn't feel it was necessary in so many word and the defense rested their case without calling witnesses or presenting any evidence. her lawyers have said there is in credible evidence showing kane did anything criminal. testimony included her political advisor who said kane's security team had checked him for a wire in the philadelphia garage and swipe his wallet, cell phone and keys just so they can meet for lunch and set the story for grand jury. that is what he said in court. at his we come back live here kane continues to work as ag without her law license which was suspended during the course of this whole case, and again, look for the jury to get this case today after closing arguments begin today, back to you. >> we will be covering it, dave, thank you. the race for the white house is heating up with both candidates making i play for pennsylvania who is expect to be in our area, this week.

"fox news" confirms that the
ryan lochte and three other american swimmers were robbed at gunpoint. >> officials say robbers posed as police officers and then stopped the attacks. the three suspects got away with money, jewelry and other belongings. spokesmen says all of the athletes are okay and they are cooperating with the authorities. and now to the reason athletes are really there they are trying to win medals. >> all right. that is exactly what simone biles and others did yesterday. let's start with the golden girl, simone biles. she became first american woman to capture an olympic vault individual gold medal. it is her third olympic gold so far. after the team all around titles, biles teammate, earned her time in gymnastics time by grabbing the silver in the uneven bars. man just watching them, boggles my mind and all of the landings. now to the track where fastest man on earth had to
defend his title. >> we're talking about usain bolt sprinting in the 100-meter dash. >> set. >> at the gun gateling, and here comes bolt, but gateling have a good lead. here he is, usain bolt. >> your lights going off. >> he never has a good start you think he is not doing well. right when he gets to the 50 he pull as way and just takes the lead. >> like hose guys we're late bloomers. >> he beat justin gateling from the u.s. in the hundred meter dash. they said wow run a sub ten time, he ran a 9.81. so won the race three consecutive times. justin got the silver medal. justin out front in the blue in the right. >> and then he gets to the 50, bye-bye. >> my goodness. >> that must be so frustrating for guys out front, really. he is behind.
