♪ >> live from center city in philadelphia this is fox 29 news at 11. happening right now 11th hour quite literally. thousands of septa workers could walk off the job in less than one hour. stopping down buses, stopping down trains and trollies. thousands of people count on in philadelphia. transit agency and workers union are locked in bitter standoff over contracts. good evening, i'm lucy noland. septa officials transit workers and riders have been hoping for the best while you know how it goes preparing for the worst right. our brad sattin in sent city right now. how goes it, brad? >> reporter: well it sounds like there may be a glimmer of hope here. we're getting new information just in the last five or so minutes i had chance to talk to septa executive moments ago who tells me things are up proving. his quote is a lot better than yesterday. he says there's been over the last few hours good back and

forth and good dialogue. so things are proceeding and his hope that drivers will stay on the job past midnight ass as long as talks are going well. however, i got to say i talked to union source within the last 90 minutes who says the union members previously voted that they would not stay on the job one minute past midnight. so we don't know how this is going to shake up. it sounds encouraging, but, of course, left in the middle right now are the riders. less than an hour to go before a major transit shut down of the city of philadelphia. the market frankford and broad street lines could stop running at midnight along with city buses and trollies. many riders say they have no backup plan. >> if i don't have septa i don't have nothing. >> i don't know how i will get to work i work down her every day during the week i'm have no idea. >> i just want them to come to an agreement. are you hopeful. >> yeah. >> more than 400,000 riders count on septa includes tens of thousands of students to get to scooch septa says they all need to have a backup plan ready. >> we ask that our riders

continue making plans for travel alternatives to pro pair themselves for the possibility of a significant service disrupt. >> reporter: contingency plans are in place forester workers and those around university city. shuttles will run. philadelphia school district students are expected to be in class they will be excused if they legitimately can't get there. a union source says there will not be an extension beyond midnight so time is running out to avert a strike and some riders just want it over. >> the people who can't get to work the people at septa are not making any money by being on strike. christmas is coming up. can't help in the long run. >> reporter: again to recap maybe glimmer of hope again a septa executive telling us moments ago things are a lot better than they were yesterday. we are expecting update within the hour. again, 12:00 o'clock drivers 5,000 or so of them could walk you have at job. so were will be staying put here and bring that you update just as soon as we get it. lucy. >> we'll check back in. brad thanks much we're staying

a creepy halloween prank seems little too real. police say someone left notes on cars that appear to be copies of a letter written by the zodiac killer the letter even included symbols that the california serial killer used in the 1970 1970's. fox 29's dave have the wiser life at the 26th district. dave, we know police found the letters on at least two streets, right. >> reporter: that's right, lucy. discover receive these letters on parked cars here in fishtown was so strange that a local pastor who spotted the letters on his way to church yesterday took one look at the content and called 911. >> some people could be really bothered by it. >> reporter: pastor dan roth was on his way to church sunday morning when he came across a flyer that quickly caught his attention under the windshield wiper of a car park on his block. >> they look a little bit funny so i grabbed one and look at it and i rec knife it right away as copy of something from the zodiac killer back in the '70's. >> reporter: pastor roth of the summer field shalom united

methodist church in fishtown noticed the flyers on several park cars. on the 2200 block of york street. he snapped a few pictures of the flyers and then called police. >> this couldn't tapes some stuff that's kind of threatening. so i figure it would just be a wise thing to contact the police and let them know about it. >> the flyers appear to be copies of a 1970s letter from the zodiac killer in the san francisco bay area. it included symbols and a threat against school children in san francisco. >> it looked like it was just a zero rocked copy of the actual letter, same symbols. same wording. >> reporter: police in the 26th district found another on another street and investigated no other letters showed up so they determined it was just someone trying to scare people. >> there was no threats made. or anything of that nature. that would make us be concerned for the safety of anybody in the neighbor. >> reporter: now again no other copies of these letters have been found here in fishtown or anywhere else in the city at this point. police say they still do not know who placed those letters on the cars in the first place.

♪ one of my favorite stories of the day. think you'll love this. four-year-old boy in florida decided to dress as someone very special this halloween his father. jadin's daddy is a staff sergeant with the air force. he's been deployed for past eight months. little boy wanted to look just like him to go trick or treating with his mom at a neighborhood event in gainsville. he got more than candy. you saw that right there. his dad surprised him. >> i thought i was just coming
