at 6:00. and we begin at 6:00 we developing story. one that has captivated the country. the manhunt in cleveland is now over. the man believed to have killed senior citizen going home after easter brunch the man who then posted video of the killing on facebook is dead. pennsylvania state police say he shot and killed himself following a short chase in erie county. thank you for joining us at 6:00. i'm lucy noland. >> i'm iain page. it was a stop at a mcdonald's drive through that kind of caused a short chase in erie. >> new video shows the moment flashing lights started following stephens just minutes later investigators say stephens took his own life. fox's hat fin reports. >> reporter: it was a random crime that terrorized the nati nation. steve stephens allegedly shot and killed 74-year-old robert godwin, jr. and then posted a video of the killing on facebook. it spark a huge manhunt that began in several states. today police found stephens in

pennsylvania dead of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. >> we would prefer that it had not ended this way, because there are a lot of questions i'm sure that the family but the city in general would have had for steve. >> reporter: stephens was spotted after an exhaustive search in the cleveland area was expanded to surrounding states. pennsylvania state police found him tuesday morning in erie county. they attempted traffic stop but he took off. and after a short pursuit, he shot and killed himself. >> there was a lot of support from the community in terms of law enforcement efforts and kind of information and tips that we were given. >> reporter: now folks here in cleveland are breathing a sigh of relief. while the godwin fm family continues to mourn. stephens family is speaking out as well. saying he was driven to desperation by a failed relationship and heavy gambling debts. >> he let that girl upset him so

bad like that. and that what caused him to sn snap. he was gambler. that started all of this. >> reporter: facebook working to make sure a video like this never makes it online again it's of violent videos before theyyp- get posted or go live. in cleveland, matt finn, fox news. people in erie are stunned that it all came down to a trip to mcdonald's. stephens apparently order add large chicken mcnuggets and fries when he pulled up to the window for this food workers recognized him. they told him his fries weren't ready quick thinking had him wait. called police. stevens took off when he got tired of waiting. but the mcdonald's employees stalled him enough for state troopers to roll you. >> i was just sitting there getting ready to get my coffee i look over my right i saw a white forward for fusion i didn't think anything of it at the ti time. i just -- i didn't think anything. i just went through my day and then i saw on the tv at work that steve stephens was caught

oval to 20th street. >> for a full closures of details about the nfl draft just head to our website fox police say off duty philadelphia officer is shot her husband at their buck county home. northampton township police responded to the couple's home in holland around 5:30 this morning. for domestic dispute. now, we don't know exactly what happened. we don't know the history. but investigators tell us the off duty cop fired hitting her husband in the lower abdomen. he's in stable condition. three children ages 13 and younger were in the home when this all happened. now, sources are telling us the officer is with the 17th district in philadelphia. and is an 11 year veteran of the force. detectives are still interviewing her about what exactly played out. flee three more high school students joining in on a lawsuit filed against the boyertown area school district claiming the district violated privacy rights by allowing a transgender student to use the boy's locker

room. a student and his parents originally filed that suit last month. the family was upset that a transgender student who identifies as a boy was being allowed to use the boy's locker room to change. the school board voted to up hold the policy saying they're in line with state and felled raleigh. the three additional students joining in on the suit say the school is ignoring its duty to protect the privacy of its students. today the family of lieutenant killed during a prison riot in delaware filed a federal late along with other officers who work in that smyrna prison. in february, inmates took four officers hostage inside the vaughn correct al facility during a 20 hour standoff officials say inmates killed lawsuit steven floyd and today his widow along with five other officers who survived that uprising claim two former governors, the state's corrections commissioner and three former commissioners all ignored staffing issues and dangers at the prison. >> for 16 years, it has been the

policy of two governors in delaware deliberately not to employ enough officers to safely run delaware's prisons. instead they spent up to $23 million a year forcing under staffed officers to work 16 hours shifts overtime to safe money. >> current delaware governor john carney is not listed as a defendant but it does claim that he violated prison policy by intervening in the emergency response. last month, carney spokesperson denied the governor had made any decisions during the response. woman beaten and left for dead at a south philadelphia high school. for days no one knew who she w was. she died days after the attack and her family has you can imagine is desperate to find the killer. dawn timmeney is live in south philly. dawn, you've been talking with her family. >> reporter: lucy, they are obviously devastated.

the woman's lifeless body was found at the top of these steps at south philadelphia high school. philadelphia homicide investigated but the family is pleading for help from the public. excuse my me kind of give you a flyer. thank you. dominique is desperate for answers about her aunt's murder. that's why she's taking to the streets at broad and schneider for a second day hasn'ting out flyers hoping someone knows something. isn't i feel like, um, because she was homeless or because of the way she was found that it's just kind of being push to the side like no one cares. but she has extensive family that loves her. >> reporter: they-year-old lauren aukott was beat tepp beyond recognition outside south philadelphia high. school police found her at 6:00 their in the morning on april 5th unconscious and bleeding from the head. >> apparently she was sleeping when she was attacked that's how she got her so bad. >> reporter: lauren was in the hospital on live support for a

week before anyone even knew who she was and her family was finally called. sadly she died three days later. >> i just don't understand how someone could be so brutal and do something like that to another person. >> i'm sad. i'm heart broken. i'm shocked. >> reporter: lauren's killer is still out there. her family is vowing to keep fighting until whoever beat her senselessly and left her to die is caught. we just want justice for our cousin. >> she was the kinds defendant person you would ever meet honestly i'm not just saying that because she's my aunt. >> reporter: now, lauren was a mother of three children ages six, ten and 14. her family says that she had reached out for help recently and was trying to get her life together. now, they're planning a funeral. vigil will be held here at schneider and broad tomorrow night at 6:00 o'clock. iain and lucy. >> all right. thank you, dawn. torments night the philadelphia fire commissioner is promising changes in the agency. nearly three years after the death of a firefighter.

now this comes after a federal report detailing what went wrong during the tragedy. firefighter joyce craig died in 2014. the first female firefighter to die in the line of duty in the city. now, craig made seven distress calls, seven, calling out may day a she became trapped in the dining room of the west oak lane home. she was found by her fellow firefighters reads the report with her hand near the nozzle of her fire hose likely battling flames to the very end. the national institute of occupational safety and health reports broken and outdated breathing equipment became backup team that arrived tooa- late all led to craig's death. >> we have the opportunity here to embrace all these recommendations now taking action against them and actually doing it. it's not as simple as saying we accept that recommendation. >> joyce craig a mother of two had been with the department for

11 years. report found the hose to her breathing mask failed which basically caused a quick loss of air. her estate has made legal claim against the city. philadelphia police say they've arrested the gunman in this scary surveillance video. police say anonymous tip led them to 34-year-old march tiz went daal. earlier this month he walked to the new shop express along old york road in west oak lane and held two employees at gun point. thankfully no one was hurt and went daal is now fazing charges including robbery. police in newark, delaware, say they have got the guy who had as been groping women across the campus of the university of delaware. they've linked carlos maldonado to three incidents from late last week. investigators say he groped two women and followed two other. he's out of jail after posting unsecured bon. closing arguments set to begin tomorrow in the murder trial against eric forty nine. the prosecution rested its case today. after inter entering more than

sunshine, mild temperatures pushing 70 degrees today in philadelphia. in trenton beautiful day as well. the temperature right now is 62. but over the past four hours we saw the temperature peak at 4:0. and now those numbers will slowly fall off it's already 62 in philadelphia. but we have that southerly wind at 15 miles an hour and that will keep it relatively warm over the next couple of days into the evening as well. ultimate doppler shows that persistent easterly wind. so a cooler wind for us but temperatures still hanging in there in the 60s pottstown 67. 61 in trenton. 59 degrees in wilmington and 68 in reading you can see those cooler temperatures to the south and the east closer to the ocean and that cooler ocean influence so down the shore highs only in the 50s that cooler air pushing

westward in hammonton 58 the ocean water temperature only 51 degrees. you don't wanting to into that water without a wet suit. trust me i've done it. right now across the nation temperatures in the 70s and the 80s to the south. but over the next couple of days, we'll see those temperatures slowly warm. it's not going to be a quick fix around here. high pressure will be moving off the coast. some clouds building in tomorrow and maybe even a few late day sprinkles but see this line of showers. that will hold off until thursday morning. we'll have some fog. we'll have some showers before that warmer air moves in. if you're an allergy sufferer a tough couple of days. wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday, those tree poll tense still will be running high before they get -- we get that rain in here to clean out the atmosphere. tonight 45 in the city. lower 40s in the suburbs. southeasterly winds and mainly clear skies. during the day tomorrow, going for a high temperature of 62. cooler than today but plenty of sun. and the wind becoming southeasterly. you'll see that warming wind
