breaking news. did you feel it? earthquake shaking the delaware valley. kathy orr breaking all this down in 15 seconds. report on twitter from mark wilmington say the windows were shaking in north wilmington late this afternoon when this 4.1 shallow earthquake was felt. i mean epicenter about 6.1 miles to the east northeast of dover. here's dover. you can see it's very close to the delaware bay and it radiated through south jersey, the eastern shore of maryland, baltimore and washington and many reports in south jersey. even on the pa side so we are
6:15 pm
looking at a very widespread event across the region. now, little less than year ago we had a quake along the seismic zone in lancaster that was 2.3. this is 4.1. big difference here and remember in 2011 in august there was a larger earthquake in virginia that we fell. so we've done this before. the intensity map shows all these light blue pixels you can see it goes from weak to light as far as the intensity is concerned. this is where it was felt through the cats skills of new york toward also new england and long island. down the coastal plane of south jersey very flat there. so radiating quickly. and even in through reading and scranton you can see an indicator there through baltimore and washington. but many reports obviously in delaware and south jersey and in places like chester county and delaware county pa. you can see where we see this brighter blue near the epi sent of the quake that is where we felt the most shaking which makes sense because you're closer. there is a fault line in north
6:16 pm
delaware. that is delaware seismic zone with this magnitude 4.1 quake. no damage reported so far and reports obviously throughout the tri-state area and through the north atlantic and into the mid atlantic. so when we look at shallow versus deep quakes lucy mentioned this before. this was a shallow quake only about 8-kilometekilometers and o to 70-kilometers considered shallow and inter mediate and deep which is 300 to 700-kilometer deep. we're dealing with shallow quake. can you cause more damage because it doesn't have far to go to the get to the surface when you have a deeper quake it weakens as it goes further up toward the surface so it can usually cause more damage and it travels farther through the east coast than on the west coast because we have all this dense surface rock which is a great conductor for these seismic waves. so pretty ripe here to have these types of events being felt over a very wide period in a

very large area of real estate. so as we look ahead at our weather overnight, that's pretty much not the headliner today. it's the earthquake. 43 degrees overnight in philadelphia. wilmington 40. dover 41 degrees. and during the day tomorrow, temperatures will be warming up again into the 50s. we do weak front coming through tonight with a few sprinkles increasing sunshine the high 54 but the winds kicking up gusting to about 20 tomorrow afternoon. on your seven day forecast from the weather authority, saturday and sun day your first weekend of december looking good. monday, tuesday and wednesday warming up. thursday much cooler. 44 degrees. many people feeling this. a lot of people in aw em of this my husband called me and said i thought it was our son jumping. >> people have said they thought it was a freight train because i live next to railroad tracks it's from john in dover. we were asking for people to send in pictures of what happened and so he's got some stuff knock over there in the house. he's not alone. it is kind of dark to see but
