another plan. and a warning of tainted alcohol at mexico resorts. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. one person was kill and seven others injured when a ride at an ohio state park came apart. video shows three of them being tossed into the air and three are in critical condition. they say the ride was inspected several times. brook silva-braga has more. good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. they say they take their job seriously and kept the other rides closed because they hasn't finished their inspection or it hadn't cleared. this one, they don't know what

went wrong. seemingly crashing into something on the ground and throwing part of the ride and the people in it through the air. >> i heard a girl scream help and i looked over and seen them fly out and then i see them slap to the ground. >> fairs are about one of the best things in life, and then tonight with this accident, it becomes a terrible terrible tragedy. >> it happened aboard a ride called the fireball on the opening day of the fair. >> this was a great force, great mechanism, similar to a high-speed motor vehicle crash, something along those lines. >> they insist the ride was thoroughly looked over three or four times before it was open, even once by a third party, though, they're still trying to figure out what may have been mixed. >> there's no guarantees, obviously mechanicalsr

of 1%. on the campaign trail he promised he would defend their rights but at a rally in san francisco wednesday, activists said they would never believe him. >> i'm appalled by what he said and what he's doing. >> mola lenghi, cbs news. health care votes in the senate are expected to continue for the next few days, but a plan to repeal the affordable care act so far have come up empty. yesterday the latest measure, the plan was rejected. against it. >> i djts think repeal-only was appropriate because it doesn't provide help for those people. they're stuck in the status quo. >> the gop's best hope may be what's called skinny repeal.

they may leave two parts of obamacare in place, the mandate to buy it or to off it. scalise was critically wounded during a shooting at a republican baseball practice last month. he was released from the hospital tuesday. scalise and four others were injured with a gunman with a grievance against president trump opened fire. tf be says a suspect is in custody with the death of a woman on a cruise ship off the alaskan coast. princess cruise lines says a woman died following a domestic dispute in a cabin. >> it happened after dinnertime. the intercom came on and it was pretty apparent something serious happened across the room from us or across the hall, but one of the little girls from thatoo

saying that her parents had been in a fight and she sounded pretty desperate. >> the ship with 3,400 passengers was diverted to juneau yesterday morning. the circumstances of the death are under investigation. 13 immigrants who were found alive inside a sweltering tractor trailer in san antonio have been detained as possible witnesses in a criminal investigation. the trailer was found sunday. ten people who were inside died. the driver, james bradley, faces a human smuggling charge. a detention hearing scheduled for today has been postponed until august 23rd. the state department is warning american tourists to mexico about reports of tainted alcohol that could cause sickness or blacking out. the warning follows an investigation by the "milwaukee journal sentinel" of the death pof a milwaukee woman at an all-exclusive resort. she died

the district attorney says her conduct in the video showed depravity and stupidity. her younger sister died in the crash, and she face 13/years in prison. the "star tribune" reports that city officers will have to start their cameras for any policing activity. the acting chief issued the order after the killing by an officer nearly two weeks ago that was not recorded. >> we equip them with a lot of equipment to go out there and serve our communities, but the one thing we cannot equip them with is the ben iffet of the doubt. they have to gain that with their relationships with the community. >> the order takes place saturday. there was an evacuation of homes and resorts in a popular resort area. flames erupted. it is the latest in a series of fires in the hill

have a live traffic camera as you're passing by route 50 at fair oaks so out on 66 as well. if you're by white house road, we have reports of an accident there and out on 66 heading eastbound you're going to see some construction right by route 234, prince william parkway. after you pass through centreville for a stretch of time i had some slowdowns but it's not jammed at this point. more construction on landover road between route 50 and annapolis road close to the beltway. so far no delays on landover. thanks so much. 4:28 now. later this morning a group of defendants accused of rioting on inauguration day head to court. police arrested about 230 protestors on january 20th. a felony rioting conviction can lead to ten years in prison and $25,000 in fines. today the defendants will ask a judge in d.

charges while prosecutors will argue that the cases should go forward. justin bieber could be facing charges after hitting a paparazzo. police say the photographer was taken to the hospital with a leg injury for that. bieber did get out of his car and was seen consoling the man on the ground there. >> wow. caught on camera, prison inmates record their own escape? apparently this video shows the inmates removing one of the legs of their bunk beds. ndbehit thawas a vent that had also been caught. the three escapees were caught a week later. a lawyer for one of them gave this video to the associated press which was recorded on cell phone which was somehow smuggled into the inmates. that's a look at what's going on. the news at 4:30 starts right now. >> this is wake up washington on wusa9. >> we saw that video, we're like da.
