power outages are still a concern this morning for hundreds of customers. here's a look at dominion virginia power's live outage map. we have about 272 customers out, most of that is in norfolk and virginia beach. around midnight there were more than one-thousand customers out. over the weekend, almost all the hampton roads cities had some power outages. it was higher than six-thousand saturday morning. air travel in hampton roads is getting back to air travel in hampton roads is getting back to normal. for the first time in days, we're seeing more scheduled flights than cancellations at norfolk international airport and williamsburg newport news international airport. air travel in washington, d-c, philadelphia, and new york will be slower to get back up and running. you're looking at video from dulles international airport. nearly 12-thousand flights at airports up and down the east coast were cancelled over the weekend. here's a look at flight

good monday morning. thanks for joining us on wavy news 10 at 7 a-m on fox43. we just had to show you this beautiful sunrise shot from hampton. we hope you're morning is off to a good start. our winter weather team coverage continues on the peninsula. chopper 10 was above colonial williamsburg yesterday. the area got more snow than we saw in hampton roads, so the roads are a bit messier up there. our jason marks is in driving around williamsburg. jason how are the roads looking? the virginia department of transportation (vdot) encourages motorists to avoid unnecessary travel. if travel is a must, drivers should exercise caution while on roads as low overnight temperatures likely will result in icy pavement conditions during the early morning

some roads in virginia beach and chesapeake are back open this morning after police closed them because of several crashes. we got these pictures yesterday showing cars that slid off roads and ended up overturned in a ditch. this is on indian river and elbow roads in virginia beach. police shut this area down for a few hours before reopening it yesterday afternoon. new this morning, six people are staying somewhere else after a fire at their townhouse in chesapeake. here's a look at crews responding to the dominion pines neighborhood last night. firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the second floor of this home on pine bend. they say the fire started in a chimney and then spread. the fire was under control in about 15 minutes, and no one was hurt. now to the winter storm's impact farther up the east coast.

time square in new york city. things are getting back to normal. cars are once again traveling through this normally busy section of the city. conditions got so bad, new york's governor put a travel ban into effect saturday afternoon to sunday morning. this is what times square looked like saturday morning. not a car in sight, just crews working to clear the snow-filled intersection. as of sunday morning, nearly a foot and a half of snow fell in new york city. here in hampton roads we were spared from the worst of the storm. other parts north and west of us are buried under feet of snow. we put together comparision pictures to show you just how much snow fell in about 24 hours. here's a shot from fairfax, virginia, just outside washington, d-c. you can see the snow just coating the cars friday afternoon, and then 24 hours later they are almost completely covered in snow. check out the snow farther west of fairfax. this is leesburg, which

temperatures. we now know which teams are heading to the super bowl: the carolina panthers and the denver broncos. fans were very excited, including a panthers fan who literally fell head over heels cheering. after this touch down against the arizona cardinals, a panthers player goes over the crowd, and nearly fall on top of a fan that flipped over the wall. you can see it better in slow motion. the man falls head first, and flips around and lands on his back. he wasn't seriously hurt.

freeze. be careful. virginia state police are adding up the numbers from a busy, stormy weekend. troopers tell us many people took their advice and stayed off the road. troopers say the most traffic crashes happened in our area. there were three deadly accidents in our area. the one in chesapeake was because of the winter storm and two others in virginia beach investigation. since friday troopers responded to more than seven-thousand service calls across the state. that includes about 1500 traffic accidents and two-thousand disabled vehicles. v-dot teams from hampton roads are helping other areas in the state dig out. crews rolled out yesterday to help crews in northern virginia and lynchburg. these are pictures of them leaving shortly after sunrise sunday. 36 workers left with snow plows,

graders to help vdot with critical snow clearing operations. they'll join teams already working around the clock to clear out the snow. more information about storm-related deaths in our area. state police report the medical examiner's office said five people died because of the winter weather. one was the chesapeake and four others because of hyopthermia. state police reported one person died from the cold in hampton, but firefighters told us it was not storm related. we're working to find out how exactly the person died. in total at least 30 people have died from the blizzard along the east coast. many people died in car accidents, from carbon monoxide posioning, and from heart attacks while shoveling snow. washington, dc got saw about two feet of snow. the district's offial total was 17 point eight inches, but the washington post reports that number falls short compared with other spots in the area. so why the difference in numbers? the post reports weather observers at regan

the record is recorded, used an improvised technique and lost their snow-measuring device midway through the blizzard. a national senior weather observer stood by the accuracy of the reading, saying his team did the best it conditions. this morning the two feet of snow that fell in northern virginia is still a big problem for commuters around washington, d.c. the federal government will remain closed today. you're looking live at the capitol in washington, dc. lawmakers also postponed getting back to work. the house pushed back votes including one that could override president barack obama's health care veto. senators plan to get back to work on the economic effects from the storm. experts say the weekend blizzard could have an economic impact of up to 850-million dollars. they say restauarants, theaters, other entertainment venues, and retailers are impacted the most. good morning, hampton

hurt. the red cross is helping 11 people forced out by a fire in the south norfolk are of chesapeake. firefighters say heavy flames were shooting from the roof of this apartment on border road yesterday morning. it took them about 30 minutes to get it under control. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire. no residents or firefighters were hurt during this fire. let's get a check of your other non- weather related headlines. today the democratic presidential candidates will participate in a townhall in iowa. hillary clinton, martin o'malley, and bernie sanders will answer audience questions today at drake university in des moines. this comes a week before the iowa caucus. people in alaska are bracing for weeks of aftershocks after 7-point-1 earthquake hit sunday morning. check out the impact of the quake here in this home video in someone's garage. officials say the quake caused gas leaks and fires at four homes. they exploded and were completely destroyed. the quake also knocked

some roads in virginia beach and chesapeake are back open this morning after police closed them because of several crashes. we got these pictures yesterday showing cars that slid off roads and ended up overturned in a ditch. this is on indian river and elbow roads in virginia beach. police shut this area down for a few hours before reopening it yesterday afternoon. now to the winter storm's impact farther up the east coast. here's a live look at time square in new york city. things are getting back once again traveling through this normally busy section of the city. conditions got so bad, new york's governor put a travel ban into effect saturday

this is what times square looked like saturday morning. not a car in sight, just crews working to clear the snow-filled intersection. as of sunday morning, nearly a foot and a half of snow fell in new york city. several inches of snow couldn't stop new york's naked cowboy from his normal gig. someone snapped this picture of him playing in times square saturday in the middle of the storm with only his undewear on. here in hampton roads we us are buried under feet of snow. comparision pictures to show you just how much snow fell in about 24 hours. here's a shot from fairfax, virginia, just outside washington, d-c. you can see the snow just coating the cars friday afternoon, and then 24 hours later they are almost completely covered in snow. check out the snow farther west of fairfax.

is about 45 minutes outside washington, dc. this is actually the childhood home of one of our producers. on the left is snow friday afternoon. and on the right is 24 hours later. the patio furniture is completely buried. and here are more pictures outside that same home in leesburg. this is a shot looking out the front door. you can see the home is literally snowed in. here's another shot outside the house just yesterday afternooon. moving around is very difficult and impossible for some people. this is our producer's father. you can see the snow is up to his waist, and he's 6'2". and now let's head to charlottesville, virginia. these images come from a director at our affiliate station in there. you can see patio furniture here also got buried in snow in just 24 hours. the charlottesville area got about 18- inches of snow over the weekend. we want to say thank your for sending in your snow pictures to report-it-at-wavy- dot-com.

virginia state police are adding up the numbers from a busy, stormy weekend. troopers tell us many people took their advice and stayed off the road. traffic crashes happened in our area. there were three deadly accidents in our area. the one in chesapeake was because of the winter storm and two others in virginia beach are still under investigation. since friday troopers responded to more than seven-thousand service calls across the state. that includes about 1500 traffic accidents vehicles. v-dot teams from hampton roads are helping other areas in the state dig crews rolled out yesterday to help crews in northern virginia and lynchburg. these are pictures of them leaving shortly after sunrise sunday. 36 workers left with snow plows, spreaders, and motor graders to help vdot with operations. they'll join teams already working around the snow. washington, dc got saw

total was 17 point eight inches, but the washington post reports that number falls short compared with other spots in the area. so why the difference in numbers? the post reports weather observers at regan national airport, where the record is recorded, used an improvised technique and lost their snow-measuring device midway through the blizzard. a national senior weather observer stood by the accuracy of the reading, saying his team did the best it cound under tough conditions. the snow was so bad in areas outside of d-c, even emergency vehicles needed help getting around. here in arlington an abulance got stuck in the snow. luckily a national guard tanker was able to pull the vehicle free. and other people ditched the cars all together and traveled by sled. this is also from arlington. you can see a dog pulling two kids in a sled their sled. talking money now, many businesses are feeling the economic effects from the storm. experts say the weekend
