we're following breaking overnight news from virginia beach. police dispatchers say officers caught whoever robbed a 7-11. it happened just before 1:00 at the store on holland road near the

center. no one was hurt. police say the robber got away with cash and food. detectives have not said who the suspect is or what charges that person is facing. hundreds of workers will walk through the gates at newport news shipbuilding for the last time today. thirty-minutes ago, we first told you more than 700 workers are losing their jobs at the company because of a decrease in workload at the shipyard! here's the thing, the cuts aren't over just yet. rico bush is outside the shipyard to explain what's ahead for several hundred more employees not on the chopping block this time rico - katie, don, this isn't easy to say, but a third round of cuts are coming! the company says it will hand out pink- slips to even more employees this year. however, the shipyard mentioned it is too early to know how many people will be impacted and when they

year. i'll tell you why in 30 minutes. live in newport news, rico bush, 10 on your side. happening today, the city of norfolk plans to sign a partnership with the u-s army corps of engineers to help solve flooding in the mermaid city. later this morning, city leaders and engineers will team up to participate in a flood risk management study. norfolk is one of the most flood-prone cities in the country. this is video from a recent heavy rain storm. the flood risk study outlines a plan to investigate ways to help reduce flooding in the city. developing this morning, search and rescue teams are working to recover the wreckage from two military helicopters. the u-s marines say they've recovered some of the 12 victims' remains off the coast of hawaii. about 80 military members and a specialized salvage ship are on site to help. we told you last month the military helicopters collided into each other overnight. witnessess described seeing a fireball in the sky when the crash happend. no one on board

these are some good guys that own this place." police are investigating whether or not the suspect is connected to another recent robbery that happened nearby. on thursday, an armed man robbed the metro p-c-s on george washington highway. a manager tells 10 on your side the robber demanded cash and fired a gunshot at the wall. no one was hurt. investigators are trying to figure out who called in a bomb threat to northampton county schools. school officials dismissed all schools in the division before noon yesterday while they searched the buildings. the sheriff tells us, deputies searched the buildings, and called in bomb- sniffing dogs to double check. they didn't find anything to support the threat. that wasn't the only bomb threat on the eastern shore. investigators looked into another threat at chinocteague elementary school in accomack county. yesterday was a teacher work day-- so no students were in school. first responders say they didn't find anything. prosecutors say someone stabbed nicole lovell to death the day she

family reported the 13-year-old blacksburg girl missing, wednesday. investigators charged two virginia tech students in her death: 18-year-old david eisenhauer and 19-year-old natalie keepers. eisenhauer faces murder and abduction prosecutors changed keepers charges for from accessory after the fact to accessory before the fact. she still also faces unlawful dispoal of a music, dancing, dreamed of being on american idol someday. her favorite color was blue. nicole was very lovable person. she touched many people throughout her short life. 14;02;15;21 because of emotional stress, the last part of tammy weeks statement was hard

said: "our hearts still ache in sadness and secret tears still flow. what it meant to lose you? no one will ever know." we're following new developments about the spread of the zika virus. the centers for disease control and prevention says, it can be shared through sex. in texas, health officials confirmed one patient caught zika, after having sexual contact with a traveler. the virus has been spreading through mosquito bites, with reports coming from latin american countries. investigators have been looking into reports it causes birth defects. the city of norfolk says the owners of a burned-down hotel are getting closer to demolishing the building. only chopper 10 was above the m-star hotel on shore drive in august last year. a city spokeswoman said they met with the owner's attorney monday who informed the city, the insurance company will not pay for a full demolition. the owners have appealed. we'll keep you updated on the progress. will virginia beach move

this incredible video! watch as the aircraft touched down in a lagoon in honululu. the pilot says he was experiencing mechanical problems with the landing gear and had to ditch. the coast guard raced to pull the pilot before the plane sank. the pilot was not hurt. also caught on camera, imagine walking out of your house and seeing this! a 12 foot crocodile! that's exactly what some people in cape coral, florida saw when they got up yesterday. the huge croc was just chilling on the beach behind an apartment complex. crocodiles are common in florida, but they usually don't get this close to people. this could be a tough day for local families. today is the last day of work for more than 700 employees. we'll explain why management is letting them go.

crews put out a fire at a home on marlboro avenue. that's off kimball terrace. our overnight photographer got this video of firefighters on the scene. the fire started around 2:00 this morning. no one was hurt. investigators haven't said how it started. happening today, it's the last day of work for hundreds at the newport news shipyard. more than 700

their jobs! management announced the ago. rico bush is live outside reasons why. rico. don, katie, since the layoffs began at newport news shipyard last of the company has maintained the reductions are based on a lack of workload, after been exhausted. president of newport news shipbuilding matt mulherin made the official announcement to reduce the workforce in early december. the company sent pink slips to 7- hundred 30 hourly workers and eight salaried employees, but the shipyard let them work for 60 more days. this morning will be the last time hundreds of workers will walk through the gates at newport news shipyard with an uncertain future at least until 20-17. the company has tried to give impacted workers a little hope in moving in forward, because they say, employees can come back next year when the

still, as you may imagine, hearing this, may do very little to ease the pain for some workers who will out of work after today and looking for a paycheck until next year. even with all of cutbacks, a grim future still lies ahead for several hundred more employees at newport news shipyard. i'll explain why and what's ahead for them in 30 minutes. live in newport news, rico bush, 10 on your side. there is hope for those now out of work: senators mark warner and tim kaine said they were working with the navy to bring more work to our local shipyards. we told you last month about the navy's plans. it would move up repairs for the u-s-s tortuga, gettysburg, winston churchill, and two submarines by several months. the senators hope this will provide some work stability to shipyards until the worload increases in 20-18. happening today, the virginia beach woman accused of killing her boyfriend is scheduled to be in court for a hearing. last september, police

morning on capitol hill. water testing around fentress air field in chesapeake starts today. the city will check the well water after recent testing found high levels of chemicals called p-f-cs. the navy has been giving bottled water to people working there. military officials told us, that was just a precaution. they say the water is safe based on federal and state standards. but neighbors told us, it doesn't make them feel better. 10 on your side was there last night as more than 150 attended a meeting to learn more about the contaminated water and the planned testing. one health expert told us the water is safe to drink. 2 supers sot - dr. nancy evidence that indicates on a confirmed basis that drinking the water is associated with specific problems. 1:40:00 butt sot - holly meeks,

1:49:22 so far, crews have only tested the water on fentress field property. the well water testing for residents ends on the 13th. results come back in march. we will keep following this story results show. people in hampton roads are helping the residents their water crisis. 10 on your side caught up chesapeake that's been collecting bottled water to ship north. they've gotten help from several motorcycle clubs, community groups and churches. now they just have to figure out how to get the water to flint. they hope someone with a big heart and a big truck helps them get the donations out by february 22nd. if you would like to donate a truck or water to the effort -- look for this story on wavy dot com. meanwhile, a house oversight committee is scheduled to hold a hearing in washington on the safe drinking water act in flint. the city's water source was contaminated with lead after city officials switched from

in 2014 to save money. crews did not properly treat the water. lead from pipes seeped into the system. residents started complaining about the color and smell of the water. a grieving father is making sure his daughter's death brings positive change to dare county. he wants every child to wear a helmet when they ride a bicycle. back in november, we told you about the death of 12-year-old bri blumenthal. she was riding her bike when an suv hit her. bri died in the hospital, but while she was there, donations for her medical expenses poured in. her dad got so many, he decided to start a foundation in her name. school officials say thanks to the donations, they can loan out or give away helmets to children if they forget theirs. cunningham drive. detectives say they have also come across cases where people are selling shoes and game systems on craigslist and the buyer pays them in fake money. investigators say technology is helping the counterfeiters making the fake money since they can find similar paper in local stores. police say small businesses should always be on alert and use special pens cash. new this morning, we have incredible video of a tornado that touched down in alabama. look at what someone caught on camera yesterday. this is about 45 miles west of tuscaloosa. officials say the tornado left a path of damage taking out several trees and power lines. it also damaged several homes, but no one was hurt. forecasters say the area could see more severe weather later today.
