street. 22-year-old sergeant jeffry sempler of woodruff is among those 12 who disappeared after two helicopters collided. today, coast guard says it has no intention of calling off the round-the-clock search for the marines. sempler graduated four years ago from woodruff high school, and the principal says, as a senior, he had a quiet personality while in school. the principal said in part "he possessed a quick and witty sense of humor. he was a young man who thought of others before thinking about himself. the accident, but we remember pride." officials say sempler and 11 other marines were traveling in two helicopters during a nighttime training mission thursday. off the shore of the hawaiian island of oahu. right now, crews are battling bad weather and pounding waves as they search for the marines. also new at noon, an anthropologist with an upstate

the investigation of human remains found over the weekend. take a look at sky4 video from earlier. officials say the remains were found last night in a wooded area near the intersection of river and mcneely roads. the remains may have been there for as long as a yeaea investigators say there is no way at this time to determine the age, gender, or race of the remains because of their condition. officials also say they will send dna samples to the state law enforcement division to help identify the remains. turning to other news here at noon a 48-year-old woman from , chamblee, georgia, was killed in an early morning crash on interstate 85 . the woman and a man were driving near mile marker three when he lost control of the car, went off the right side of the road, hit the guardrail, and went t ck across the road through the cable barrier, hitting another vehicle. the man and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital. their conditions are unknown at this time.

weekend. covering the carolinas now, in anderson county, the coroner has released the name of the victim in a deadly crash. authorities say 42-year-old stephen l. christenbury crashed road and good hope church road. they say he was prounced dead at the scene. troopers say it was the third deadly crash in southern an investigation continues in north carolina this morning following a deadly weekend skydiving accident. it happened saturday at the triangle north executive airport in franklin county. officials say james stremmel died after making a hard landing while skydiving. the owner of the jump center says stremmel was licensed, had performed more than 1,800 skydiving jumps in the past, and jumped nearly every weekend. the federal aviation administration in investigating the incident.

reporter arrested and convicted of espionage more than a year ago. two other people are with him resting and undergoing medical evaluations. a fourth freed american decided to stay in iran. at utah police officer is dead and another is injured after an exchange of gunfire. authorities say the officers responded to a traffic accident yesterday and saw a man and woman walking away from the scene. minutes later, the officers found the man, and the gunfire erupted. the suspect was shot and killed. one of the officers was shot in the head and died. the other officer was shot three times. he is still in the hospital. teams are back out searching today for a missing ski instructor whom sugar bowl, california, on thursday. despite high winds and wet conditions, dozens of search and rescue teams are a may, who wenenskiing on his day off and vanished, but there are several challenges for rescue

i have three card orders. geoff: investigators say back in september, francis francois let the emergency lines ring for eight minutes while she ordered lunch for her coworkers. one of those callers was an optical shop that had a patient faint during an exam. >> i thought there would be more than one person answering the phone. i can't believe there is just the one lady. geoff: the patient was ok in the end. that dispatcher was given a letter of reprimand for failing to hang up when the 911 lines rang. drivers in michigan are saying this crazy situation came out of nowhere. this was the scary scene over the weekend. snow, fog, and high speeds causing a big issue on i-94. there was a chain reaction of crashes. it was all thanks to whiteout conditions. one pileup involved 44 cars vehicles while another involved six semis and 38 other cars. troopers say the crash could have been avoided if drivers

and drop down into the teens across the mountains and felt much colder and still does. we continue with this windchill very cold temperatures in the higher elevations of north carolina being accentuated by 15 to 20 plus mile-per-hour winds. overnight, there were a few flurries of snow. you can still see some action in parts of mississippi a alabama and a flurry are two in the mountains of north carolina, but nothing significant therthe cold wind continues. these are current temperatures. 14 in boone. 21 in asheville. still very cold in western north carolina. greenville currently at 36. 34 currently for spartanburg . anderson at 38. temperatures chillier than what we normally see this time of year. take a 10 to 20 was mile-per-hour wind, and how does it feel? 5 in hendersonville. -5 in boone. 6 in asheville.

hopefully folks outdoors have the proper gloves and hats and gear because it will chill you quickly. upper 20's in greenville will climb a little bit to the 40 or 42. average is 52 this time in january. the mountains of north carolina typically average 20's in the morning, 47 for the afternoon. we will be struggling to get to the upper 20's in the asheville area today. another cold morning like this tomorrow. in fact, it may be a couple degrees chillier than what we experienced th morning. temperatures tomorrow stay on the cold side. we will be dry tomorrow and wednesday but then things change wednesday night into thursday as this cold air begins to migrate south. it will mean another chance for a winter blast on thursday. we could see a little snow-rain mix wednesday night into early
