President Trump met with a bi-partisan group of House and Senate leaders at the White House to discuss immigration policy. The president made opening remarks about his goals for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), a border wall, and comprehensive immigration legislation, and then several members of Congress discussed those issues and bills that have been written to address them. The press was permitted to cover over 55 minutes of this meeting and discussion, and the president responded to a few shouted questions as reporters were ushered out of the room, one of which sought his thoughts on the likelihood of a 2020 presidential bid by Oprah Winfrey. and other hot spots in foreign policy. here's part two of our interview. in terms of south korea, jumping to the opening of the olympics, which you'll represent the united states and our delegation at, which is very exciting. what do you make of the sort of softening between north korea and south korea in their allowing their team, small team, to participate in the olympics? what does that signal to you? >> the president sent me to the region a year ago. i'll be honored to lead a delegation to the olympics in south korea in the next month. but the message the president sent me to deliver a year ago is the same that i will deliver when i arrive in korea again. that is the era of strategic patience is over. for literally two decades, one administration after the other has exercised a level of patience and negotiation that has resulted in the dictatorship in north korea to develop ballistic and nuclear missiles that may well threaten the united states of america as we speak. that's unacceptedable. president trump has brought unprecedented economic and diplomatic pressure to bear on the regime in pyongyang. we will continue to do that. part of my message in going is going to be to stand with those american athletes and to know that we're cheering them on and wishing them well. the under lying message is, the president is sending us there to make it clear that we stand with south korea. we stand with our allies in the region. we will continue to bring maximum economic and diplomatic pressure to bear until north korea abandons its nuclear and ballistic missile programs that threaten the united states of america. >> martha: in terms of egypt, there has been anger there for the decision to move the capital of israel to jerusalem. your meetings were cancelled with top christian leader, with abbas. can you move the peace process forward? >> i'm looking forward to meeting with president el sisi in egypt, king abdullah in jordan. it was more than 20 years that one administration after another, and one congress after another recognized that jerusalem was the capital of israel, but no american president would step forward and make that decision a reality. president trump had the courage of his convictions to recognize jerusalem as the capital of israel. it will be my great honor as vice president to visit and affirm that decision. that being said, the president also making that decision, martha. i said if the parties can agree on a two-state solution, that we'll support it. that the president recommitted the united states to engagement in the peace process. what i'll tell president el sisi and king abdullah is that we remain committed to peace. but what the president did in making that decision and in making it a reality was he essentially took off of the table an issue that really wasn't negotiable to this administration or to the american people. jerusalem is the capital of israel. the president said that we have recognized the obvious. we have affirmed the will of the american people. but now our hope is that we can move forward and begin to discuss those issues that can be negotiated in the hopes of achieving a lasting peace. >> martha: what concrete steps have been taken so far to move the embassy there? >> the planning is under way. as you're well aware, swre a consulate in jerusalem today, but as the president said, it would be necessary for us to make planning to choose a location and to develop a struck khrur. >> martha: is there a target date? >> it will probably be several years before we cut the ribbon, but the decision is made. we're moving our embassy to the capital of israel. it will be my great honor as vice president to visit israel's capital later this month. >> martha: some feel that we need to push back on that relationship, that presenting it as a strong partnership doesn't really tell the whole story. that they have entered into military deals to do reciprocal base agreements with russia. that they sided with russia in the u.n. when it comes to the syrian and palestinian conflict. against our interest. is that something you're going to bring up with the president of egypt? >> i have had the privilege of meeting him when he visited washington, d.c. i'm grateful to have the opportunity to visit with him. i expect we'll talk about a broad range of issues. i'll be delivering a message of the appreciation that president trump has for the relationship that he's forged with president trump elsisi. also our desire to see egypt continue to step forward as a leader in the region, a leader for peace. one of the issues i'll be addressing is the plight that is facing christian and religious men. egypt has seen in recent days great violence against christian churches. at the president trump's direction last fall, we're reorganizing u.s. aid funding to go directly to christian ngo's in the region. not only across the arab world, but specifically in areas of iraq and syria bessette by war. >> martha: in terms of egypt and military funding, there's been discussions about cutting that back in the trump administration. will that be followed through on? and will you essentially say that if there aren't more objector object s objector is observations to civil rights that they would lose that funding? >> the support we provide egypt is an element of our relationship. my message will be, how can we find ways to strengthen the ties between the united states and egypt and make it possible for us to move forward in a way that advances the security of both of our countries and the security of the region. >> martha: okay. congress just hopping forward to your visit to nevada this week. you'll be there to support them. how do you see your role in the 2018 elections. lot of people saying republicans will have a pretty uphill battle in 2018. >> well, for the party in power in the white house, history teaches that first midterm election is always a challenge. but president trump and i are very optimistic. think about the progress that we've made in the last year. i mean, this is a president that's rolled back more federal red tape than any president in american history. the appointment of judge gorsuch to the supreme court. more appeals court judges than any president in history. historic tax cuts. all of which has created an environment where 2 million new jobs. unemployment is a 17 year low. you reflected on african-american unemployment is at a 17 year low as well in this country. we're making tremendous progress. i think it's all a result of the leadership that president trump has provided and we think that's a great story to tell. the president and i are absolutely committed to traveling all across this country, supporting candidates for the house and senate and governors across the country to make sure that we continue to have partners all across this nation to advance the president's agenda. >> martha: we look forward to watching all of that. good luck on your trip. we wish you the best in the middle east and for south korea and the olympics as well. mr. vice president, thank you

that's overstating the case, consider this: there are more african-american adults under correctional control today in prison or jail, on probation or parole than were enslaved in 1850, a decade before the civil war began. as of 2004, more black men were disenfranchised than in 1870, the year the 15th amendment was ratified, police sitly denying the right to vote -- implicitly denying the right to vote. the 15th amendment prohibited all laws, explicitly denied the right to vote. but during the jim crow era, poll taxes and literacy tests circumvented the 15th amendment and operated to deny african-americans a chance to vote.

one of those five checks, more and more are found to not be the person who should be revented from having a gun and in the last year we have data. i was talking to john lott about this earlier this afternoon. but 2010 there were 73,000 denials approximately, the ability to buy a gun. and as they went through each of those five checks, they ound out that so many actually were not the person that should have been blocked from buying a gun. and when the obama administration got down to the bare facts, they found that out of about 73,000 initial denials ,000 cases only 42 that were referred to be prosecuted for potential prosecution. and if i recall correctly, the obama administration only prosecuted about 1/4 of what the bush administration prosecuted. -- and i the 42,000 don't mean 42,000 out of 73 ,000, i mean 42 period, out of 73,000, the obama administration only decided to get 13 convicts. 73,000 initial denials. that tells you the system doesn't work very well at all. it doesn't make sense that we would have a system that would use all the information that somebody provides to look for hits of somebody that should not be able to buy a gun. use the data -- date of birth, use the social security number, use the information there to check to see if someone is ineligible to buy a gun. and then we can get serious about better gun enforcement. especially since we now have a department of justice, except for the special prosecutor

people start to see that he's not -- he says he's for the little guy but he's actually built a lot of his business on the backs of the little guy and a lot of little guys are through eminent domain, little guys have suffered. chris christie will be remembered for taking down marco rubio a couple of pegs and for really stopping his quest to be the establishment favorite in his track. maybe that's a good attorney general of the united states. >> i don't know. john, what is your take on all of this? >> first of all, kelly points out something really important. the republican party had somebody who was able to talk bluntly and car ris mat clee cad he came in sixth in new hampshire. chris christie deserved better. he ran a strong campaign. he got the union leader endorsement.
