southern prince george's county now where firefighters have been on the run all day long. right now, the fear of a hot spot that could reignite is a big concern. in fact, out-of-state firefighters are on hand helping, too. matt akland has more from outside of clinton, maryland. >> reporter: firefighters on this part of the county, the southern part of prince george's county closed through the clip ton area have been very busy throughout the day. about 20 structures have caught on fire. this wind is really causing a huge problem. to give you an example, it's hard to see behind me but it was burning earlier today and sparks from that fire actually blew across this major road over to that house and caught the rear of that home on fire. it's been impossible to control. the wind has been the fire's best friend today and the worst enemy for the residents who live in this community. many of them evacuated. >> it is very scary. >> reporter: gina ball watches the flames and smoke get just too close to her home. across the field, firefighters use a bull doze en to build a -- a bulldozer to bu

streets. this afternoon prince george's county police say they got their man. 33-year-old stephan pittman was arrested in temple hills ending a troubling ordeal for the nfl player. >> vince young's agent reached out to us, to the prince george's county police, saying that there had been a number of victims and that they had tried with various police departments to get someone to pay attention to this. we did. >> reporter: prince george's county police communications director julie parker says there may be other victims, but so far pittman is only charged in the case of a 30-year-old woman who met on facebook and duped out of more than $2,000. >> she handed over $2,500 to him believing that he was vince young and that he would in turn give her a job opportunity with the vince young foundation. >> reporter: investigators searched pittman's home in ft. washington before arresting him in temple hills. he'll be extradited to d.c. to face those fraud charges. >> this is an ongoing investigation, not done yet. there could be more charges to come. >> reporter: now besides getting victims

district, southeastern montgomery, western prince george's, falls church, arlington, charles and northwestern st. mary's counties you have flash flood warnings physical 12:30. this has had a great impact on -- until 12:30. this has had a great impact on the region and with more rain coming down from our south we have to watch the next several hours. have to show you these rain totals doppler estimates but charles county has been clobbered with 15.7 inches of rain estimated. we have seen ground truth of that. had a call of alexandria, 11 inches reported by monica peek. near the london town area 10 inches, around alexandria again doppler estimates 11.6 inches. we slide into montgomery county heavy rain up there 6 to 8 inches and on up to howard, baltimore, prince george's county 9 and 10-inch rain amounts. this is staggering in a twoen day period and a flash flood -- in a two-day period and a flash flood watch remains until 2 a.m. for the entire area. we'll keep an eye on what's coming out of the south, but needless to say east of 95 fredericksburg south it's coming up in that dire

leslie johnson asked for probation today in greenbelt. the judge said no. the former prince george's county council member was ordered to serve time in prison. fox 5's john henrehan has this story. >> reporter: according to federal prosecutors, former prince george's county executive jack johnson was corrupt for the entire eight year period he had the top job in the county shaking down developers and contractors for big money. leslie johnson, his wife, told a federal judge at her sentencing hearing i did not know anything about the criminal conduct that my husband engaged in. prosecutors call that claim ludicrous noting that as fbi agents were banging at the door leslie johnson flushed a $100,000 developer's check down the toilet and conspired with her husband on an intercepted phone call to hide $80,000 in cash. >> you got the cash? >> uh-huh. >> okay. put it in your bra or something like that and walk out of there. >> reporter: leslie johnson's attorney characterized the 80,000 in cash that was in the basement of their home as household emergency money. on the fourth floor of the f

go back to when he was as young as 6 years old. school officials in prince george's county at one time diagnosed wanson as emotionally disturbed. the prince george's county state's attorney says they worked very hard to get this case involving wheeling out of juvenile court. >> this is a difficult and arduous process. the only way we could obtain justice for ms. wheeling we believe was to waive mr. wanson up to adult it court where the sanctions -- adult court where the sanctions matched the crime. >> reporter: wanson was sent to chilltonham in 2009. remaining four count involve the breaking and entering incident in 2009. in that case wanson broke into a woman's home and stabbed her in her sleep. no trial date has been set. wanson does face life in prison and this marks a first. wanson is now the youngest ever juvenile charged as an adult in prince george's county. >> what fallout, if any, has there been from the murders? >> reporter: several staff members were fired for failing to follow protocols at the time of wheeling's death. a report by a watchdog group juvenile justice moni

there are meetings coming to prince george's county county and the district to deal with this issue. there is a bill in the maryland legislation that will require the public service commission to test reliability standards. if the service company can't meet them, they would be fined and that money could go back to customers possibly in the form of rebate. >>> we are learning new details about a bizarre murder suicide in charles county that ended with a popular teacher dead. the sheriff said the men were are friends. fox 5's karen gray houston has more on why one man may have turned on the other. >> reporter: friends and relatives gathered at chris hoefert's home on warren eller drive, but no one wanted to comment on the strange circumstances that led to his death. the same was true at the home of robert becker. what's so unusual about this case is that the alleged killer and victim were friends and they lived here right in, door to each other. what would make your friend drive alongside you, use their car to block yours in the middle of a busy intersection, get out and open fire? >>

plater tonight. >>> the labor department says the prince george's county school system owes millions of dollars to 1,000 teachers who came from foreign countries. they were hired in a visa program for foreign workers. the feds said the school system made the teachers pay the schools something the schools should have paid. in addition to 4 million in reimbursement to the teachers, the system has to pay a $1.7 million fine. the school system issued a statement in quote saying it disputes the findings and will appeal. some fear the finding may have a devastating impact on the system's ability to continue to place a highly qualified teacher in every classroom. >>> another big story we're following tonight, a hole opened up in the body of a southwest airplane more than 30,000 feet in the air. today southwest canceled dozens of flights nationwide after finding more cracks in other planes. fox 5's laura evans is here with the latest developments. >> the problems are in older boeing 737's and southwest owns most of those. there's now an order for an emergency inspection on at least 80 737's.

georges and the district, brian, but yeah, it was full of lightning, especially a little while ago. it was coming south on 270 around gaithersburg and restin. we had quite a tremendous light show. earlier tonight we had reports of hail in the pan handle of west virginia. in berkley county we saw very strong thunderstorms, martinsburg and damage in louden. let's go to radar because what we have left is a little bit of lightning but just a moment ago, some flash flood warnings got issued for this collection of thunderstorms i'm going to show you, still pretty far down to our south, and this is going to be for page county and rockingham county around the harrisburg area, they're getting a lot of rain. not for the severity of the storm but the heavy rain they're continuing to see. quick look at vipir, there is more to come and there's more rounds of summer-like thunderstorms, the heat is on. the humidity is off the charts, and we think that once again tomorrow we're going to see that heat pump sending in a lot of humidity and temperatures getting into the low 90s, so prepare yourself,

schools will return to class on time tomorrow. in prince george's county crofton woods elementary school is the only school without full power. you can expect an announcement by 6:30 a.m. tomorrow. in anne arundel county seven schools are still closed because of power outages. the list is on www.myfoxdc.com. here's a look at power outages in our area. pepco has 2,000 customers in the dark, bge has 5,000 in montgomery and prince george's county and southern maryland electric is down to fewer than 10,000 customers. >>> the earthquake may have caused hidden leaks in the washington monument. according to the national park service engineers sealed cracks from the quake but discovered water inside the monument after the hurricane. a spokesperson says there were puddles on stairwells toward the top of the monument. engineers are searching for the source of the leak but say the monument is sound. >>> damage from earthquake will keep the national cathedral closed at least another week. the quake caused three of the fire spires on the cathedral to break off. there are cracks on the upper pa
