get home. we have reports of people stuck on the beltway in prince george's county. this is an ongoing nightmare since we went on the air at 4:00 this morning and the snow started coming down. let's go to bob barnard live in bethesda. are you still seeing the grid lock tonight? >> reporter: up until about 10 minutes ago, i'm not kidding, we promised you guys you'll still see it because it will be this way since 4:00 but now traffic is moving a lot better. these are headlights coming out of the district north on wisconsin avenue. you can see the tires are spinning. everything seems to be okay. it's a wet slush here. the problem is as we look through the intersection here, the lights are out. there is electricity to the south of us, but north it's all dark. no traffic lights, and for many hours that was a problem because there was cross traffic trying to get through and people were having a tough time. also as you look north, and there's a police officer, they've had trouble. they've been stranded and stuck in traffic most of this afternoon and evening and night. as you look north, we've

district, southeastern montgomery, western prince george's, falls church, arlington, charles and northwestern st. mary's counties you have flash flood warnings physical 12:30. this has had a great impact on -- until 12:30. this has had a great impact on the region and with more rain coming down from our south we have to watch the next several hours. have to show you these rain totals doppler estimates but charles county has been clobbered with 15.7 inches of rain estimated. we have seen ground truth of that. had a call of alexandria, 11 inches reported by monica peek. near the london town area 10 inches, around alexandria again doppler estimates 11.6 inches. we slide into montgomery county heavy rain up there 6 to 8 inches and on up to howard, baltimore, prince george's county 9 and 10-inch rain amounts. this is staggering in a twoen day period and a flash flood -- in a two-day period and a flash flood watch remains until 2 a.m. for the entire area. we'll keep an eye on what's coming out of the south, but needless to say east of 95 fredericksburg south it's coming up in that dire

schools will return to class on time tomorrow. in prince george's county crofton woods elementary school is the only school without full power. you can expect an announcement by 6:30 a.m. tomorrow. in anne arundel county seven schools are still closed because of power outages. the list is on www.myfoxdc.com. here's a look at power outages in our area. pepco has 2,000 customers in the dark, bge has 5,000 in montgomery and prince george's county and southern maryland electric is down to fewer than 10,000 customers. >>> the earthquake may have caused hidden leaks in the washington monument. according to the national park service engineers sealed cracks from the quake but discovered water inside the monument after the hurricane. a spokesperson says there were puddles on stairwells toward the top of the monument. engineers are searching for the source of the leak but say the monument is sound. >>> damage from earthquake will keep the national cathedral closed at least another week. the quake caused three of the fire spires on the cathedral to break off. there are cracks on the upper pa

i-95 and out to the east. prince george's county has been getting some fairly heavy snow. we've had fairly heavy snow moving right up here into the district as well. and then there's continuing to be heavy snow for prince william county up into fairfax county. what we're seeing now is a little bit of a lull back out to the west here from, say, loudoun county right out towards 81 and into west virginia. it is lightening up just a little bit as it is for frederick county as well. i think we're going to continue to see that for the next several hours, but this heavy snow band that you see in the red from southwest to northeast, it jumps right across the district, that will stay in place for quite a while. so i'm expecting at least during the early overnight period, that here in the district and parts to the east we'll actually be getting the heaviest of the snowfall and then by tomorrow morning another big general area of moderate to heavy snow will be forming as the coastal area of low pressure is forming. as sue as been hinting at as well, once that area of low pressure forms, the wi

foot fence, latches and gates. but thursday afternoon prince george's county police say a 12- year-old boy visiting his uncle next door decided to sneak a swim. police say he pushed this metal garbage can against a fence and hopped over. police say the homeowner never saw or heard a thing. he was in the front yard power washing. >> the other sibling saw him go over the fence and watched him when he wasn't moving, that's when they notified the adults in the home. >> reporter: police say the uncle, 59-year-old david used the same garbage can to get over the fence in an attempt to help sieve his nephew but something happened. they were found at the bottom of the 8 foot pool. efforts to save both were unsuccessful. they were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. >> he was a marvelous manual, just marvelous. >> reporter: charles lives across the street. he says he saw the kids looking through the fence but had no idea anyone was in danger. good when we were pulling out of the driveway, i saw two kids standing on the trash can up against the fence. and i thought they were j

activity down here in prince george's county moving over into parts of anne arundel and calvert where you also had a lot of action earlier in the day. trueview also gives us a good perspective. i'm in a little tighter on the activity in montgomery county. just south and east of barnesville and that heavy rain wll cross over 270 moving to the southeast. damascus has just gotten out of it. just a little bit north of gaithersburg but i do think gaithersburg will taste a little bit of that. it's been flying. a little pie of energy that has to clear the region. once we get that out of here, i think we're going to be done with it for the night. so those showers and storms we saw this evening will be gone and earlier today temperatures in the 80s. we're lucky we didn't have much sunshine because then we would have had some big problems. satellite and radar we'll show you earlier in the day what was happening and we also want to talk a little bit about some of the signs you need to look for if you're in a tornado warning as we had so many counties today, you want to watch for an approaching c

until tomorrow. one of the witnesses who did testify today told the jury george huguely and yeardley love were holding hands at a social function the night before she died. fox 5's paul wagner reports. >> reporter: there was no sound on the tape, just the images of george huguely and yeardley love socializing with others at the off campus bar boylan heights. it's surveillance tape obtained by police turned over to the defense. huguely's aunt was there that night with two of her towers and standing in the well of the court -- daughters and standing in the well of the court with a laser pointer she described who was who and what they were doing. only the video could see the video as his aunt said there's georgie holding hands with yardley. it was around midnight may 1st, 2010, the day after huguely told love in an angry e-mail i should have killed you and the day before he's accused of attacking her. a total of five witnesses were called to the stand. two of them young women who testified seeing yeardley love and george huguely in an argument in the days leading up to the murder. one o
