smallwood produced pornography on his cell phone using a child he may have met on his prince georges county bus route. bob barnard is live to start us off. >> reporter: shawn, federal investigators say the key evidence in this case was found at this convenience store near andrews air force base. it's a tiny cell phone memory card like this one that officials say the suspect meant to get rid of but accidentally left at the checkout counter. scott alexander smallwood is 27 years old charges with producing child pornography. he's a prince georges county school bus driver. since 2005, accused by federal investigators of sexually explicit conduct with a 7-year-old boy. and videotaping the sex acts with his cell phone. the victim apparently told investigators smallwood was his night bus driver. >> the prince georges county public school system takes this matter very seriously. our intent each day is to protect our young people, all of our students here in prince georges county. >> reporter: smallwood was arrested last friday at this, the school district's bus depot in brandywine. >> i thou

foot fence, latches and gates. but thursday afternoon prince george's county police say a 12- year-old boy visiting his uncle next door decided to sneak a swim. police say he pushed this metal garbage can against a fence and hopped over. police say the homeowner never saw or heard a thing. he was in the front yard power washing. >> the other sibling saw him go over the fence and watched him when he wasn't moving, that's when they notified the adults in the home. >> reporter: police say the uncle, 59-year-old david used the same garbage can to get over the fence in an attempt to help sieve his nephew but something happened. they were found at the bottom of the 8 foot pool. efforts to save both were unsuccessful. they were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. >> he was a marvelous manual, just marvelous. >> reporter: charles lives across the street. he says he saw the kids looking through the fence but had no idea anyone was in danger. good when we were pulling out of the driveway, i saw two kids standing on the trash can up against the fence. and i thought they were j

police medevac helicopters flew two of the injured to prince george's hospital center. one of tem said to be in critical condition. the other expected to live. both are young men, not sure of their ages. a teenage girl in the honda accord was also hurt but taken to the hospital by ambulance. alonzo warren was driving by and watched the rescue. >> they cut two out of the front seat and the one in the back seat, he was like -- it took them about 20 minutes to get him out. they had to cut the whole front off and part of the roof to get him out. but he was -- [ indiscernible ] the rest of them, just real quiet. >> reporter: first responders say the crash along lords landing road was ikely caused by excess speed and the diver losing control of the car. it's a 25 mile per hour zone here in the middle of lords landing village. the car left the road, hopped the curb and smashed into this tree. police say no other cars were involved in this accident. at last report all three of the injured were being treated here at prince george's hospital center. >> paramedics say the three people in the car

scene and at least in one instance a video shows prince george's county police beating an apparently unresisting student. other video shows students committing crimes and nine of them have been identified and charged. 22-year-old joseph mcquillan is the first to go to court. he attempted to set fire to a duke jersey and took off his own t-shirt to add to an already burning blaze. under the terms of an agreement with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to a single count of disorderly conduct and his 60- day jail sentence and $500 fine was suspended but lehave to perform 20 hours of community service. a spokesman said the suspended sentence was appropriate for the actions committed. >> hopefully others will realize if they do more severe acts, they'll get more severe penalties. >> reporter: some think it will deter students from rioting in the future. >> it's a good message to try and get people to be more responsible, especially when things of this nature happen. >> reporter: others believe joseph got off too lightly. >> if i was a judge, that probably wouldn't be the sentence i give him.

streets. this afternoon prince george's county police say they got their man. 33-year-old stephan pittman was arrested in temple hills ending a troubling ordeal for the nfl player. >> vince young's agent reached out to us, to the prince george's county police, saying that there had been a number of victims and that they had tried with various police departments to get someone to pay attention to this. we did. >> reporter: prince george's county police communications director julie parker says there may be other victims, but so far pittman is only charged in the case of a 30-year-old woman who met on facebook and duped out of more than $2,000. >> she handed over $2,500 to him believing that he was vince young and that he would in turn give her a job opportunity with the vince young foundation. >> reporter: investigators searched pittman's home in ft. washington before arresting him in temple hills. he'll be extradited to d.c. to face those fraud charges. >> this is an ongoing investigation, not done yet. there could be more charges to come. >> reporter: now besides getting victims

still trying to determine how she died. if you have any information, call prince george's county police. >>> now to a story seen first on fox 5, thousands of speed camera tickets in one maryland town may have been issued illegally. those are allegations in a lawsuit filed today that accuses riverdale park police of issuing tickets without an officer signing off but using his name anyway. fox 5 sherri ly is following this. >> a police officer in the department blew the whistle on the police department, but state law, an officer supposed to review each ticket, but court documents show the officer's name on citations even though he was on leave from the department. court documents show e-mails between the officer and two civilian employees that describe writing up the citations saying we all will take 1,000 clear them out. under state law only an officer can do that. each ticket is $40 in 2011 alone the town earned $1.8 million from speed camera tickets, about 1/3 of the town budget. the lawsuit claims the practice goes back to want 9 and that the civilian employees fraudulent -- 2009 and

west high school metro station in prince george's county and fox 5's john henrehan tells us some are now going to extreme measures to protect themselves. >> reporter: this waterway in the hyattsville area of prince george's county is known as the northwest branch of the anacostia river. right alongside the waterway lies a paved hiking, biking and walking path known as the northwest branch trail. it's patrolled by mounted and bicycle units of the maryland national capitol park police. a portion of the trail is adjacent to the west hyattsville metro station. for mid-march through april twentieth three different people have been accosted on the trail by an armed man, dragged off the trail and raped 'one victim was in her 30s, one in her 20s and the most recent victim was 14 years old. this past week several area police departments met, compared notes and learned that since january two other women have been sexually accosted on nearby streets within walking distance of the metro stop. the trail has been pasted over with flyers depicting artists' sketches of the assailants described by vi

details in a series of home invasions that terrified residents of montgomery and prince george's counties. tonight police are looking for the accomplice they say helped kevin ray carry out a robbery and sexual assault last week in bethesda. ray was arrested in north carolina saturday. fox 5's paul wagner has the story. reporter: when kevin darnell ray began his crime spree in wheaton last week, police say he was after credit cards, pin numbers and a car robbing a woman birth a baby at gunpoint. by the next day police say his tactics changed and with an accomplice he restrained two people with zip ties and sexually assaulted the housekeeper at gunpoint. that's not all. he took credit cards and used them at atms in bethesda and the district where his photo was taken and hunt was on. >> really it was the speed with which we were able to get information from the banks and the atm withdrawals. that's the video and the photographs we were able to get from -- with the transactions that were made with the victim's cards really is what led us to the suspect. reporter: police had a name bu

george's county police officers are recovering after noise complaints led to a fight and the recovery of drugs. it happened friday night at an apartment on the 3000 block of brinkley road in temple hill. when the officers returned for a second time to ask the residents to turn down their music they spotted drug paraphernalia as a fight broke out. police called to the scene found those drugs. >> after they secured the search warrant, that's when we discovered additional illegal drug, such as marijuana, pcp, ecstasy and scales and other items. >> several people have been arrested and are facing charges. the drugs have a street value of over $13,000. the injured officers were treated and released. >>> another big story we're working. president obama honors fallen law enforcement officers during national police week. he attended a memorial at capitol today where he thanked officers and their families for their sacrifice. >> to the survivors of fallen law enforcement officers, our hearts go out to you for your loss. the husbands and wives, mothers and fathers you loved, they protected us a
