hit the east coast since world war ii. here's what we know so far. all of prince george's county, culpeper and spotsylvania county schools will be closed tomorrow. they're still assessing dang to the buildings. within hours we -- damage to the buildings. within hours we learned inspectors found cracks in the washington monument. that is closed indefinitely. not helping things? a 4.2 aftershock felt just two hours ago and that follows the main event, a quake felt up and down the eastern seaboard. the 5.8 hit just before 2:00 this afternoon sending people running from buildings all over the area. we have a slew of reporters working every angle of the earthquake aftermath. fox 5's wisdom martin has some of the most serious damage live in culpeper, virginia tonight. >> reporter: downtown keller pepper has been closed until further notice -- culpeper has been closed until further notice because not all the buildings have been checked. let's talk about some of the damage here. this is one of the buildings that was damaged. bricks fell from the top of building along the sidewalk during

plater tonight. >>> the labor department says the prince george's county school system owes millions of dollars to 1,000 teachers who came from foreign countries. they were hired in a visa program for foreign workers. the feds said the school system made the teachers pay the schools something the schools should have paid. in addition to 4 million in reimbursement to the teachers, the system has to pay a $1.7 million fine. the school system issued a statement in quote saying it disputes the findings and will appeal. some fear the finding may have a devastating impact on the system's ability to continue to place a highly qualified teacher in every classroom. >>> another big story we're following tonight, a hole opened up in the body of a southwest airplane more than 30,000 feet in the air. today southwest canceled dozens of flights nationwide after finding more cracks in other planes. fox 5's laura evans is here with the latest developments. >> the problems are in older boeing 737's and southwest owns most of those. there's now an order for an emergency inspection on at least 80 737's.

expected to go back tomorrow morning for classes. >>> did prince george's county police follow proper procedure? an officer let a councilwoman off with a warning after pulling her over for going at least 105 miles per hour on the beltway. the officer pulled over karen toles last week after allegedly watching her weave in and out of traffic in a county vehicle. he said he hit 100 just trying to catch up to her, but he only issued a $90 citation for her unsafe lane change. retired maryland state police sergeant ron maroney joins us now. we have heard from a lot of people who were outraged by this, most people pulled over going that fast on the beltway we figure would be in handcuffs in the back of a squad car. was this proper protocol? what would you have done? >> in an instance like this i would have issued a citation for the speed and for reckless driving and the unsafe lane change. the officer had said that he was unsure because his car wasn't calibrated. however, you know when you're going 40 miles an hour over the speed limit, which is a $510 fine and five points. he should have is

congresswoman giffords prognosis ahead at 10:30. >>> to a developing story at prince george's county, the 10th murder there in 10 days on university boulevard in lewisville. fox 5's wisdom martin is on the scene. >> reporter: at about 6:olice o driving by in the area. he actually saw two stabbing victims on the ground. there were several witnesses who were also in the parking lot of the shoppers food warehouse here in adelphi. investigators say that two male victims who were walking in this area had been stabbed by four male victims. the suspects ran away on foot after the attack. both victims were transported. one is dead. one is in serious condition. at this point investigators don't know why this happened. the victim was able to tell them that he didn't know the attackers. officers are in the process of canvassing the area now searching for suspects. investigators also say there's a possibility that there is a gang connection and i've also just been told that the suspect thought that the victims were gang members. they looked like some gang members that they knew. at this point in
