get home. we have reports of people stuck on the beltway in prince george's county. this is an ongoing nightmare since we went on the air at 4:00 this morning and the snow started coming down. let's go to bob barnard live in bethesda. are you still seeing the grid lock tonight? >> reporter: up until about 10 minutes ago, i'm not kidding, we promised you guys you'll still see it because it will be this way since 4:00 but now traffic is moving a lot better. these are headlights coming out of the district north on wisconsin avenue. you can see the tires are spinning. everything seems to be okay. it's a wet slush here. the problem is as we look through the intersection here, the lights are out. there is electricity to the south of us, but north it's all dark. no traffic lights, and for many hours that was a problem because there was cross traffic trying to get through and people were having a tough time. also as you look north, and there's a police officer, they've had trouble. they've been stranded and stuck in traffic most of this afternoon and evening and night. as you look north, we've

. here in montgomery county it's 96,000 pepco customers still in the dark. in prince george's county it's a little more than 42 now. part of the problem, look behind me here, some wires dangling, the utility pole leaning over. this is a neighborhood in kensington still in the dark. that house has a generator going and some lights, but look on the sidewalk in front of the house. 72 hours after this storm passed through here take a look. the top of that utility pole is still there on the sidewalk. pepco contractors are trimming trees away from downed line as long bell belfry road in silver springs to start repairing the wires. >> we had to take basically and drop everything down about 3 feet to get into some good wood and it's just about where we want it. >> reporter: ruben heidelberg and his fellow linemen from a new jersey company are rewiring another silver spring neighborhood. this fallen tree is the culprit. linda and others glad to see the work finally being done. >> hopefully it's a matter of minutes. >> reporter: the henry family is camping outside their home also waiting for t

this doesn't include the district, prince george's county, howard county or fairfax. it does include montgomery and parts of other areas. we'll watch this freezing rain, when it is raining aloft. the water freezes with the contact on ground when it is at 32. wearwe worry about the freezing rain, the ice, it will be a big blizzard from about kansas all the way up into the western great lake states. and it is the same system that you see coming out of the los angeles area right now and moving into the southwest. so it will be an important player. what you see here on radar up to the north, that is the system. we know it will be very cold overnight. temperatures aralready in the 30s here. 41 degrees in the district, and it will be a very cold start for us in the morning. with lots of places near 30. but it is tomorrow night as the storm system impacts us. there could be a period of time that we really need to nail down with new information that will come in. brian, i will tell you who i think needs to watch for the accumulation and the ice. >>> you can learn more on myfoxdc.com for more

one. >>> following some breaking news right now out of prince george's county. police are investigating a deadly hit and run. it happened around 8:00 in the 7900 block of annapolis road in lanham. these are live pictures right now from sky fox. a car hit and killed a pedestrian. the driver later showed up at a local police station. no word on charges just yet, but you can see the ambulance there pulling up to the scene. police officers have it cordoned off and traffic slowly getting by, but it's kind of a mess out there as well. if you're headed to that area, you might want to steer clear. we're staying on top of this. any new information we'll be sure to pass it along. the victim has not yet been identified. >>> also tonight a 43-year-old metro worker is battling life- threatening injuries at this hour after be be hit by a train. it -- be be hit by a rain. it happened between the braddock road and metro stations this morning. metro is not identifying the worker tonight but says he has serious injuries. the agency is investigating how the accident happened. coming up new o

attorney. he told us sometime this afternoon calls into prince george's county were urging voters to not going to the polls because it was no longer necessary. because according to these polls martin had won. there was no reason for to you go vote. well, he tells us this is a clear violation of civil rights law. in fact, that is voter intimidation in his words. these calls appear to be targeted not in prince george's county but in the city of baltimore. just two weeks ago here in baltimore that u.s. senator ben carter and cumming held a news conference to say that they were going to be on the lookout for any kind of voter dirty tricks in their words on election day. cummings had produced pamphlets from 2002 showing robert and him in a pamphlet issued back in 2002 in cummings' words used to confuse democratic voters once they went to the polls. similarly, four years ago, another pies of legislation called democrats for erlich show pictures of him along with the prince george's democrat jack johnson. johnson of course did not endorse him. it looked like he had been backing martin at that p

said, all the water appeared to be flowing back out into the bay. we did go over to prince george street which runs right in front of the naval academy and that street was completely flooded, but for the most part even the parking lot at the city dock which traditionally floods, the was no flooding there. so that's a good thing. we did see a couple maryland national guard humvees patrolling the area. the mayor has asked for a little help. there's 450 national guard troops throughout maryland helping out. we've seen one circling around annapolis. we know they're on duty here. also want to let people know the shelter in annapolis high school has 35 or 40 people there. they plan to spend the night there and red cross tells me that shelter will stay open as long as they need to. what we're hearing now is they think the height of the storm and the biggest effects might be 6:00 tomorrow morning. so there maybe some people that might want to stay in the shelter tuesday night. we'll have to wait and see how that goes, but it does appear the rain is lessening, that sustained wind that we h
