news. this is from prince george's county. a fire at a county firehouse. >> the closest stations lost its fourth career staffing. matt brock has the details. >> to show you the fire station behind me. people are working inside. it is ok now. not so much at about 2:30 this morning. people are worried that this is a sign of things to come. smoke and flames poured out of an engine. volunteers whoere there doing prep work were able to move some equipment before it got too bad. the first fire company called in to help was the capitol heights station. only just this weekend there were bumps down to volunteer stuffing. we're told the capitol heights group never made it here. so many told us they are concerned about reduced staff and that it could lead to disaster. the fire chief at prince george's counties said he is dealing with $110 million budget, that is $2 million less than last year. he has had to make these changes in staffing in certain stations and making some station's specialty stations. he said no new hires until june of 2010. the guys working here get no overtime. matt broc

george's county high school students. a scheduling glitch is said to be fixed w. the error caused 8000 students to have empty or incorrect schedules. the school now plans to offer extended day clinics for students who missed some school time. >>> a new report is out on violence at d.c. public schools. schools made it 3500 emergency calls to d.c. police. more than 900 of these calls cited a violent incidents including assaults and sex offenses. 1400 calls involved property incidents. the remaining calls were for attacks such as drug offenses, suicide, and disorderly conduct. >>> a lawsuit to stops toll hikes could cause some problems. the tolls are supposed to increase by 25 cents in january. it is the first of three increases. the citizens group filed the lawsuit and claims the tolls are really a tax because the highway has already been paid for. >>> the u.s. and nato need a new strategy to defeat the taliban. the war is winnable. this situation is serious. more troops were not asked for. august was the deadliest month yet for troops in afghanistan. 47 service members were killed.
