back to news. >> we begin with a busy night for emergency crews and prince george's county. they try to save a teenaged male from the water. there were not successful. this happened on old stagecoach road in laurel. john gonzalez is there with what he has learned so far. >> prince george's county investigators will be back out here at the willow lake apartments later this morning to try to figure out what went wrong. the pond is just beyond those trees. water rescue teams searched for the teenage boy nearly two hours last night. he was reported missing around 8:45 last seen in the apartment complex. witnesses tell police the young victim went under water and never came back up. search and rescue used boats and helicopters with infrared equipment and a high-powered lights. 80 minutes later he was found under the bonds which is about four feet deep. cpr was performed at the scene. he was then rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. the exact age and identity of the boy has not been released. we understand investigators will be back out here to try to figure out exactl

the george washington parkway where we saw cars spun out. gridlock and people not moving. the council of government are saying this is not just about snow but emergency preparedness, even national security. we saw emergency vehicles that could not make their way through because of sole vehicles that were spun out, left abandoned. on 66 i saw a number of cars not just on the shoulder but in the middle of the road. one emergency responder i spoke to said it took them 45 minutes to get to a woman on route 28 a few miles from where they were because of all of the vehicles. we heard from parents who were very frustrated, very concerned because they were in their carer hours and couldn't get to their children at school or day care. they were very concerned. a lot of frustrated drivers. now the council of governments says march 9 they are going to discuss trying to come up with a better plan in case it happens again because it is not about snow but emergency preparedness. >> now looking around the region, funeral services will be held for two sisters from hyattsville who were killed in a hou

george's and montgomery county are a thing of the past. much of the work has been and will continue to be trimming trees along power lines in those counties. on the heels of new maryland legislation that holds utility companies accountable, pepco is releasing the new monthly reliability progress report. since september of last year after mounting criticism pepco has said it trimmed trees along 1,600 miles of power lines inspected and upgraded 26 distribution lines invested $24 million in new equipment, and added more than 50 automatic switch is that would reroute power during storms. not everyone is sold on the plan. montgomery county council member fully supports the new bill passed this week that allows the maryland public service commission design utility companies for poor performance. public service commission now can issue a $25,000 fine for violations during poor performance in rain storms and to avoid that pepco has done all this work that it has reported in this report and has replaced or upgraded 70 miles of underground cables and hired new customer service reps. abc 7 new
