prince george's county. when hundreds were left homeless when roofs were peeled off. >>> bruce, you are dealing here tonight, with two midirize towers between 5 and 7 stories. parked behind me. in riverdale towers next to me. debris still all over the parking lots here. both of these buildings have been rendered unlivable. they have been condemned, pending repairs. so not only are these people dealing with no electricity and no air conditioning. they have no shelter. they spent much of the day wandering around in the hot sun, with not a lot of options on what to do. >> yes. it was a tornado. cars destroyed by falling sections of roof, torn by two apartment buildings. >> people was outside. and they said the wind gusts were just swirling around. >> a miracle no one was killed. >> we have to stay here. >> reporter: today, hundreds from two apartment buildings sweated in the hot sun. kids in steaming cars. the power out everywhere. others wandering with belongings. >> it's starting to get hot now. you got a car load of kids. what's the plan? >> hotel. >> last night, we had 70 people. >

in the area still without power. most of those customers are in prince george's county and the district. we've got team coverage for you this evening. the storm aftermath, beginning with armando truell. he's in blaitensburg, maryland outside a heavily damaged apartment complex. >>reporter: right behind me you can see some of the havoc that was wreaked by yesterday's microburst. you've got a roof that weighs several tons and it flew about 500 feet from on top of an apartment building to land over here. on its way it sheered through a power line. now you can see pepco crews. they're working on restoring the power. this is just part of the army that's been deployed to make sure this neighborhood gets back to working condition. a massive cleanup effort is under way in blatensburg and this is what 60 mile per hour wind gusts can do to a brick apartment building. a hail storm brought even more destruction. the hail came through the window. it was so powerful i couldn't get up and shut the window. all my blinds is completely destroyed. >>reporter: by the hail? >> by the hail. >>report

prince george's county. here in bethesda they just restored power after they got it for a little bit. and then it went out again. this huge tree behind me you see is the culprit. that took out power for five days. we have arlene here to talk to us about what happened and also how the power went out this morning. >> this morning, the transformer just started broking and we -- smoking and we happened to be outside with montgomery county and picking up the debris. and everyone panicked. called the fire department. they got here and they called thank goodness they called pepco and not me. so -- >> reporter: arlene, knowing it went out again because of the heat, what did you think at that point? >> truthfully we are really lucky because we sort of fly is rest of -- supply the rest of the neighborhood and their refrigerators were emptied into ours. and we were worried about the neighbors who would have the same condition again. everyone started calling us. >> reporter: luckily you did get power back just about -- within the last hour. i saw them pulling away here. but it really did get hot

information. >> reporter: prince george's county police say this man is the suspect of the beating of a 70-year-old woman. it happened between 2:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on december 23rd, when police say a predator broke in through the window of this capitol heights home where an elderly woman has lived 30 years. >> beat her up pretty bad. she was asleep, so it's not like she got up and went into this attack. she was sleeping and they decided to pound on her. >> reporter: after regaining consciousness, the woman stumbled, broken and bleeding to her neighbor's home. >> she was totally covered in blood. i asked her to sit down and went and got a towel and cleaned her face. >> reporter: that is the camera that caught surveillance video of the person of interest. he was walking here on drum avenue near the intersection with cumberland street and largemont. prince george's police say that places him near the crime scene. physical the house is right up the street. and time wise. police aren't sure if anything was taken because the victim is still in the hospital, but is expected to make a f

, charles county, prince george, and fairfax, where you can see the largest cell south of me national us. we're seeing gusty winds up to about 35, 40 miles per hours within that storm cell. also, there is a line of showers and storms moving off to the east of that region, as well, and we will continue to see this set up as we head throughout the evening hours, and into the early portion of toronto. so far, we are tracking larger storms that could be coming our way from the west. as of right now, temperatures are warm, sitting at 91 at reagan national, we will continue to see partly cloudy skies in through the overnight, but the temperatures will begin to be rain cooled as we slip back down into the 80s over the next couple of hours. the general severe thunderstorm watch, that's the general watch area, is east of i 81, and that watch is going to be running until 10:00 p.m. i'll have more details for you coming up in my full weather report. we have two more reminders that police work can be dangerous. gunfire erupted outside a prince george night club injuring an officer, it happened at

tracked her down in prince george's county. the name of the victim has not been released yet. >>> police are searching for the driver in another hit and run that left a homeless man dead. fairfax city police say 62-year- old james ralph davidson was killed when a driver hit him. davidson was crossing the six lane highway of fairfax boulevard near draper drive around 1:00 this morning. arlington county police helped find the suv a 2010 jeep compass that was involved in the hit and run but the driver was nowhere to be found. >>> police are still trying to sort out a bizarre robbery attempt that ended with the would-be robber's death. it happened alodge north view drive in bowie. ken molestina is there now and ken, what's the very latest on the strange incident? >> reporter: you know, strange is right. really don't know any other way to call it. this has weird written all over it and police are still investigating trying to get to the bottom of this. i want to show you what remains on the spot where the burned out cab lay yesterday. 4300 block of north view over here is a primarily a commer

here in montgomery county that police are working with detectives in prince george's county to find out if this is the same suspect. reporting live, back to you. >> you still working this story. how did they get him in north carolina, do we know? >> reporter: we're told that detectives got all of these tips and after they released that first picture of him about some surveillance video and so they had a pretty good idea of who the suspect was, and they said that the detectives were able to link and follow him in some way. i asked the detectives if they followed this man down to north carolina. they won't release those details. >> okay, lindsey, thank you for that live report. >>> turning elsewhere, a massive search underway offer the coast of italy, where a luxury cruise ship ran aground with 4200 people aboard last night. three bodies have been recovered and 40 people still missing tonight. divers have been searching the submerged portion of the ship, but they have been pulled out of the water for the rest of the evening. there are reports that captain of the ship has been arrested

hills. this is the man prince george's county police say is behind her murder. he's 22-year-old nathan cedric rogers of district heights. police say rogers and a victim were in a relationship. investigators were called out here to the 7100 block of mason street yesterday after receiving a call of a suspicious vehicle on the block. when they got here, they found moss' pregnant body stuck inside that car's trunk. police say moss had been stabbed repeatedly. >> officers responded out and checking that vehicle, they detected a strong chemical odor emanating from that vehicle. once they got inside that vehicle, they noticed the victim. reporter: again, cedric rogers tonight in police custody, being charged with first-degree murder which is -- what's still a bit of a mystery is what led up to this victim being stabbed, being murdered and put inside that car. that's something the police are still trying to figure out. live tonight in district heights, 9 news now. >> ken, thank you. >>> the teen whose older brothers play in the nfl appeared in court today. 19-year-old michael davis has
