scott is live at george reid middle school where counselors will be on call today. >> reporter: the this happened yesterday afternoon, word quickly spread throughout the community. counselors will be at george reid middle school to help students copy with the death of a classmate. this happened at 3:00 p.m. not too far from here on route 13 by basin road in new castle. 14-year-old tyler spawn and three others teenagers were trying to cross the northbound lanes of route 13. as tyler entered the left hand lane he stepped in front of a toyota driven by a 21-year-old. he was hit and thrown and pronounced at the hospital. the other teens made it across and not injured of police are reminding people this is a busy road and people should not risk crossing outside a crosswalk or intersection. the teens were a quarter mile away from a pedestrian foot bridge. the driver remained on the scene and investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash and police say no charges will be filed in this case. live in new castle, katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >>> thank four --

"action news" reporter katherine scott is live at school district headquarters with more on this tragic news. katherine. >> reporter: matt, this was all very sudden. the student was in school on monday and then early yesterday morning died of bacterial meningitis. the health department notified officials here at the school district and grief counselors will be back at the school again today in north philadelphia. the student attended george washington carver high school for engineering and sciences, a magnet school at 16th and norris. the students learned of the student's passing yesterday. two letters went out to parents. one had information from the health department. those who shared a classroom, a lunch table or bus with the victim are not considered at risk. only those who had very close contact such as kissing or living in the same house are considered potentially at risk. the other letter explained that their children could show signs of emotional stress with the death of

. george, annie. >> reporter: good morning, tam, police are not releasing any information, but a family member of one of the victims has confirmed to "action news" that their loved one was killed. we know one person that is dead in the double shooting that happened overnight in ambler. behind you can see it's an active scene the forensic unit remains out here, they have been out here for several hours. there was a police officer standing guard in front of the apartment moments ago, they are walking in and out of the apartment complex. this is video from a short time ago where police towed a vehicle there that was parked on the street in front of the apartment complex where the shooting took place. now, this is video from the scene overnight, we'll get to it in a moment. police told "action news" overnight that a double shooting took place inside the apartment on the 100 block of forest avenue. when the investigators arrived they focused on the second floor apartment in the complex. since the shooting occur they have remained on the scene and roped off the entire complex with police tape
