county is now in the hands of a judge. closing arguments wrapped up in the bench trial of george shaw yesterday. the 57-year-old is accused of raping and killing barbara rowan of bensalem back in the 1980's when she was 14 years old. shaw maintains his innocence. the judge plans to announce his verdict on monday afternoon. >>> philadelphia police are also hoping to bust a car battery theft ring. newly released surveillance captured one of these crimes in action. the thief is seen making quick work of a jeep wrangler on lombard street between 20th and 21st last month. detectives say the hood of the older models like this one they just close with latches so they're easily popped open. though not just this make has been targeted in the recent spree. since spring, police say battery thefts are up 41 percent. >> 6:37 now. drilling operations for a controversial natural gas pipeline project that runs straight across pennsylvania will stop temporarily. an environmental judge ordered work to come to a halt on the mariner east two pipeline yesterday. a hearing is that scheduled next month to d

police headquarters with more, good morning, annie. >> reporter: george, tam, the stray bullet hit the 45-year-old victim in the head. he is? extremely critical condition at the hospital. this is video from the scene before 9:00 p.m. last night in kensington. the victim was on the front porch of the home on the 200 block of east indiana street. shots rang out in the neighborhood, his family members ducked and hit the ground, the victim did not. he was struck in the head. police do not think he was the intended target, are now focusing on a nearby park with shell casing were found. >> while investigating the scene, officers found 16 spent shell casings about 200 feet away from the porch where the victim was found. 16 shell casings were found in hope park. >> reporter: and police are canvassing that park and neighborhoods around it along with the area where the 45-year-old victim was hit they are looking for surveillance or witnesses that could come forward to help them. for now, the 45-year-old remains in the hospital. reporting live outside police headquarters, annie mccormick channel

. george, annie. >> reporter: good morning, tam, police are not releasing any information, but a family member of one of the victims has confirmed to "action news" that their loved one was killed. we know one person that is dead in the double shooting that happened overnight in ambler. behind you can see it's an active scene the forensic unit remains out here, they have been out here for several hours. there was a police officer standing guard in front of the apartment moments ago, they are walking in and out of the apartment complex. this is video from a short time ago where police towed a vehicle there that was parked on the street in front of the apartment complex where the shooting took place. now, this is video from the scene overnight, we'll get to it in a moment. police told "action news" overnight that a double shooting took place inside the apartment on the 100 block of forest avenue. when the investigators arrived they focused on the second floor apartment in the complex. since the shooting occur they have remained on the scene and roped off the entire complex with police tape
