district attorney george gascon himself a former chief has made an issue in recent months about allegations of racism and homophobia within the police department. he convened a blue ribbon commission and at that commission he laid part of the blame of the culture of the police department on the overbearing power of the police officers union. today the police officers association shot back with both barrels. here's the story. it's an allegation that no one, especially a politician, ever wants to be accused of. but here it is. according to sworn statements by two police union officials, in 2010 while having a dinner after a harvard conference then police chief george gascon was drinking heavily and while recalling his time on the los angeles police department, quote, made multiple statements that disparaged minorities. he became so loud and animated that an african-american patron approached chief gascon and asked him to restrain himself because his behavior was offending their family. the former union police president says he is bringing up the 5-year-old dinner to show that gascon was not a
