bad at all. and the latest on the show with george flickinger, will stafford, priscilla kaiser and george is with us first. what the latest update this hour. >> george: mark, the temperatures will rise and that will continue. a lot of this sleet and snow will melt this evening and the temperatures are going to be rising overnight. this means that when you wake up tomorrow morning, we are going to be above freezing. temps will be in the upper 30s, and into the 40s for tuesday morning. we are also going to see heavy rain moving in tomorrow morning. now right now, we tracking this little area of pink. that is light, freezing rain and light sleet which is -- which is advancing northward toward lynchburg. you can see it in pennsylvania county. bedford county getting it right now. also you can see toward franklin county near rocky mount. for this evening, light freezing rain and light sleet on top of the existing snow. that means that a lot of the roads, the county roads and the neighborhoods are what is going to be getting more slippery. a look at the temperatures freezing. for an updat

anyone with questions. it's (434) 352-3 2637. george flickinger joins us now. danner george -- the weekend is going to warm up for these people. 3 good friday to you! we're looking forward to a great weekend ahead. no rain will occur until next week.the wind will finally decrease tonight and temperatures will freezing. you can expect mid 20s by saturday afternoon will be cool and dry with partly cloudy conditions and less wind. highs will near 50. sunday will be warmer with highs in the mid 60s under a mostly sunny sky.we will see rain chances returning next week. a few showers are possible on monday and tuesday. highs will reach the 60s. heavier rain is likely by wednesday. looking ahead about 7 days, we could see a chance for snow on friday-it's too early to know specifics, but right now this doesn't look like a "plowable" event. 3 danner our continued 3 thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this storm. 3 mark and as we go to break.. we'll show you more of the pictures we're getting from all the devastation in you! we're looking forward to a great weekend ahead. no rain

george flickinger because we have a rapidly changing forecast for the next few days. >> that's right. we are going to see a one reason two punch over the weather -- over the next few days. first we will have the cold weather for the weekend and then we will see winter precip meaning snow and sleet for early next week. right now we are looking live out over lynchburg. you may have seen some snow flurries out there today, but no accumulation and no travel problems this evening, but it is cold outside, and it is going to get colder overnight. 28 in lynchburg. roanoke at 30. danville at 33. martinsville at 30. feels that much colder. wind chill is 20 in lynchburg and feels like 24 in blacksburgand feels like 24 in blacksburg. what it looks like for you this evening. a few snow flurries are possible, but no travel issues. mainly a bitter cold night. temps in the teens by tomorrow morning. coming up a little later, how much know we are expecting and when we expect the snow to begin. >>> now we want to get to the aftermath of that massive fire at the old dan river plant in brookneal.

>>> next "e.t," backstage the s.a.g. awards. >> all the t river valley. >> george: going to show you a live look over lynchburg right now and watching a pocket of heavier rain that is moving in town. as we look to the southwest and south, you can see it in the distance. it is right through here, and this is looking toward the south side of lynchburg and out toward of heavier wind moving in. if you have weekend plans everything will be wet as the showers make their way into town. looking live over danville where traffic is moving along smoothlytraffic is moving along smoothly. you can see a little birth snow in some of the parking lots. watching us from south side, you will see increasing rain this evening. don't have to worry about any icy roads as temperatures are above freezing and will remain above freezing. 61 in lynchburg. light to moderate rain, nothing severe but light to moderate rains making everything wet. the showers are tracking from west to east across the heart of virginia and where you see the darker green and yellow, those are some of the pockets of heavier rain. right

following this developing news for you on air for the last several hours chief meteorologist george flickinger has everything that we know that the hour. >> george: danner and mark, we started our live severe weather coverage near 2 :30 this afternoon a few thunderstorms and a few tornado warnings and tornadoes making their way across the heart of virginia. this is what we know right now, we have at least seen a few tornadoes with damage occur to the south and southeast of lynchburg. right now we are tracking tornado damage in appomattox county. also a lot of storm damage in charlotte county as well as halifax it county. right now the storms are making their way to the north and northeast. let's zoom toward the richmond area and you are going to see worse for us locally and but back to where we live, take balk into the heart of virginia where you could still see a few small showers and see a little bit of light rain near lynchburg and bedford county and brook neal and campbell county. only going to see a few small showers and the worst of the severe weather has ended. however, we wi

chief meteorologist >> george: danner and whitney, we are seeing light rain and snow. where we are seeing the snow it is not sticking. having a difficult time sticking as the temperatures are too warm. this view is from our bedford county camera in thoxton and looking straight down. some of the snowflakes. but look at the ground. it is not stick as a lot of the temperatures are well above freezing. here is what it looks like for you on the radar. you can see it is snowing in the mountains but having difficulty accumulating. lynchburg is having light rain as well as much of the heart of virginia. blue ridge mountains are seeing snow. use caution if you were travelling that direction, but for the rest of us headed home from work, i think most of the roads are going to be okay in that they are wet but not icy. you can see all the local temperatures are above freezing. 40 in lynchburg. mid-40s in danville. looking out live over danville right now where we have light rain and upper 30s toward blacksburg and roanoke. coming up a little later, we are tracking colder weather and let you kn

cold enough. let's get more from chief meteorologist george flickingermeteorologist george flickinger. >> george: hey, mark. i think most of that snow will be staying closer to the mountain and that will be a lot of good news for a lot of the travel plans that means if the rain for most of us will stay as rain. right now we are looking toward the vine center and route 460, and you can see traffic is moving along smoothly, so a lot of snow cover remains, but this snow shouldn't cause any huge additional problems. huge additional problems as temps are above freezing. in lynchburg right now, light to moderate rain moving in. the rain there near the timberlake area toward evanton and russburg, you will be getting rain moving in as well as appomattox. showers in amherst. occasional showers. we will see a little bit more rain develop back behind this. occasional showers for your evening, but it is not goodbye toing a washout. temp -- not going to be a washout. temps above freezing to the upper 30s by 11:00. a little later we will let you know when we will have a big warm-up and more showers

coldest weather we have seen so far this season so bundle up. chief meteorologist george flickinger has more on these chilly temperatures. >> george: danner, not only the chilly temperatures but the chilly wind chills we are going to see. if you haven't spent time outside, probably a good thing because the wind has been keeping you cold. what it looks like now on the thermometer getting ready to head home from work. temps are near freezing. this map shows how cold it feels 37 . right now current wind chills in the 20s and wind chills in the teens toward blacksburg. later i will tell you how cold the wind chills will be for tomorrow. >>> campbell county school employees are hopeemployees are hoping for a raise this year. the county is still waiting for a state budget to be determined, but last night the school superintendent rocket johnson requested a 2% raise for all school employees during the school board meeting. the race will cost $1.1 million. and this is a preliminary payroll and needed so employees could keep up with the rise in the cost of living. >>> virginia's house of del cat
