customers still have no power, most in prince george's county and the hardest hit town was bladensburg. dozens of home deemed unsafe, dozens left homeless are staying at a shelter at the high school. others are staying with friends and family as crews work to clean up the mess left behind. darcy spencer is live and talked to some of the folks affected by the storm. been a long 24 hours for them, right, darcy? >> reporter: it certainly has. jim, to just give you an idea of the devastation, this here is just one of 20 condemned buildings here in prince george's county. you can see there are tarps over of parts of the building. take a look at the very corner of the building. a huge piece is missing. you mentioned there are a lot of power outages here in the county. thousands of people are without power. many of them told me tonight they feel fortunate because they escaped with their lives. loretta banks is in tiers. her condo unit she's rented was heavily damaged friday night during a storm. she and her family are spending the night at a shelter. it could be months before they can move ba

from the surviving officer inside the cruiser that crashed. it is a sad night in prince george's county. one officer killed. another seriously hurt. jackie bensen is live at police headquarters where a news conference has just wrapped up. >> we begin with shamari stone. >> that officer here has nonlife threatening injuries. many of his fellow officers have been walking in and out of the hospital praying for him, hoping he recovers soon. they're also offering prayers to the families of his partner who died in the crash. adrian morris is described as a courageous prince george's county police officer. >> police officer morris, 23 years old, joined the pgpd after volunteering as a police explorer for five years. >> reporter: he'd been on the force for 2 1/2 years. fellow officers lowered the flag at half staff after he crashed into a ditch, was ejected, suffering massive head injuries. he died. >> this is a family, and all of prince george's county government is going to wrap its arms around these two officers and the rest of their colleagues to make sure that we get through this. >

thousands of people in prince georges county tonight. darcie spencer live in hyattsville. >> we've been traveling throughout the county since this afternoon into the evening and there's a major problem trying to get around. take a look down here, it's because so many traffic lights are in the dark. we're along east/west highway at riggs road. you can see the traffic right here is at a standstill that's what we've been seeing throughout the county. also, so much power is out for residents, they're starting to get frustrated with the power compa company. >> i came to rescue my mother, because i see pepco doesn't care about the older people. >> reporter: a complex of 100 apartments for seniors, the building has no power. you can see older folks outside fanning themselves. >> what's it like inside the senior house. >> 100 degrees. my apartment is like an oven. >> the fire department was called out after seniors began getting sick from the heat. ann says pepco should get the lights and air conditioning back on right away. >> they told me seven days. who can wait seven days with 100 degrees.

george's county ended with a chaotic multicar wreck in southeast d.c. this crash also involved a metro bus, and it sent several people to the hospital including children and a police officer. darcy spencer has more on all that and on the person who was arrested in all of this. >> reporter: it was a violent crash involving several cars and a metro bus in the middle of a busy intersection in southeast d.c. at least six people were sent to the hospital. it was a wild ride for passengers on that bus. >> you seem pretty shaken up. >> i'm very shaken up. >> were you trying to get somewhere today? >> to work. >> reporter: it started with a traffic stop in prince george's county. police there say the driver took off, then crashed here at pennsylvania and southern avenues on the d.c. county border. prince george's police say they did not pursue the car. >> i heard a lot of boom, boom. i look up, all this has happened. but the bus driver did a good job maneuvering over it. so we were pretty safe. >> reporter: at least one passenger on the metro bus had to be taken to the hospital. three children

starting out in prince georges county. the crime scene is at east capital street and benning road southeast. shomari stone is there with the latest. >> reporter: we arrived on scene approximately three minutes ago. it is active out here. before i show you that video, let me move out the way so can you just see, my photographer can zoom in on this police cruiser here. you can see it has front edge damage. police say the suspect rammed that police cruiser. if you move a little to the right for our viewers, can you see the suspect's car has damage on the driver's side of the car. let's roll some video to tell you guys what exactly happened. prince georges police say they were looking for an armed robbery suspect and chased him into the district at benning road and east capital street southeast. d.c. police and prince georges, police are on the scene. police say the suspect did not commit a robbery tonight but that he had a warrant out for his arrest for allegedly being a lookout in a recent 7-11 robbery. police say when they were chasing this suspect, he had three people in the car.

prince george's county now with more on this. >> reporter: he's many a baltimore jail tonight. he'll be back here in prince george's county for a bond hearing. police say it was williams who actually shot and killed trooper wesley brown. and tonight we learned that williams has been charged with actually trying to kill a police officer 4 1/2 years ago. this is the capital heights apartment complex where police say new year's eve 2005 williams opened fire on a prince george's county police officer. according to charging documents, williams shot at the police officer as he operated his prince george's county police marked patrol car. the officer was investigating a call of shots fired in the area. the car was hit several times and disabled. williams continued firing at the officer when he got out of his patrol car. williams could have gotten 85 years for those charges. instead he was sentenced to ten years for a drug charge and ended up doing 2 1/2. officials say they were forced to cut him a deal when their key witness did not show up for court. friday night trooper wesley brown would
