family and friends will say good-bye to a prince george's county police officer killed in a car crash. kevin bowden died after an suv collided with his cruiser in clinton. he was off duty at the time. the first viewing is at lee's funeral home in clinton. >>> this morning police want to know who's behind a costly crime spree in prince george's county. nine cars were set on fire over a 24-hour period in the kettering, largo, bowie, and upper marlboro areas. investigators believe it's the work of a serial artist. they're not sure if they're burning them to cover up break-ins, but several people say they heard their car alarms going off moments before the fire. >> my wife woke me up. she said, your car, the alarm is going off. look, it looks like there's fire. >> so far, no one has been hurt in these fires. police say report any suspicious activity immediately. >>> president obama returned from a marathon campaigning spree in eight states. one of those states includes illinois, where he voted. richmond, virginia, was one of president obama's stops yesterday. about 15,000 supporters

today will be near 70 degrees in washington. in montgomery and prince george's county, low 70s. much of fairfax county. across northern virginia, some spots are going to be pushing the upper 70s. fredericksburg, upper 70s. mid-70s from manassas to leesburg, quantico in the mid-70s as well. southern maryland, highs in the low to mid-70s there as well. a beautiful day. just clouds coming through. king george may get into the upper 70s there in the western part of the northern neck. and near the pennsylvania border from howard county into frederick and washington, the panhandle of west virginia, should be right near 70 degrees. the shenandoah valley from martinsburg down to shenandoah and lorain, winchester, mid to upper 70s with a southwesterly breeze sweeping up the valley and clouds coming through. out of the mountains, many locations there in the upper 60s to right near 70 degrees. coming up next weather and traffic on the 1s at 4:41, a look at the election day forecast in the metro area hour by hour and the breakdown on that. now we'll check on road conditions with melissa. >>> som

prince george's county. she started in suitland and is in forestville. how are the roads as you're driving? what does it look like where you are? >> reporter: good morning. we are here at pennsylvania avenue right at suitland parkway. and this is an area that i drove through at 2:00 in the morning on my way to work. when i drove on pennsylvania avenue, there was still snow on the roadway. take a look now. we have seen an improvement since then. the plows have been coming through, putting the chemicals, salt down. and as you see, we have wet conditions here at this location. traffic is running well. running at speed. same thing for suitland parkway. when i drove on it early this morning, there were snowy conditions. some spots where the snow completely covered the ground. now, though, we are seeing wet conditions than the snow covered conditions. an improvement. there's a plow, in fact, about to pass me by here. putting the chemicals down. now the tape that you're lookin in the suitland area. we were there about 45 minutes ago. this is quarter avenue. you see the snow-packed conditi

prince george's county. we have more information about the elderly man who died in oxen hill after he was trapped in the flames of a home. news4 derrick ward is live on the scene with more on why the man may not have been able to escape. derrick? >> reporter: good morning here, we're in the 7600 block of lf you can see the remains of this house. this was a terrible fire that started here at about 11:32 last night. that is when prince george's county firefighters were called to the scene here in the 7600 block of belfast place. an elderly woman was able to get herself out but her husband was trapped inside. we're told that he was pronounced dead on the scene from flames and smoke inhalation. he was 84 years old. they were steadfast members of some of of the family members who showed up here, people who had grown up in the house have to go through and find what they can from this fire. important papers, belongings, momentos, a life lost. we're told that the smoke detectors in the basement did work but not on the upper floors. and prince george's county firefighters are trying to determi

morning, a deadly shooting in prince george's county. this happened in clinton on vienna drive at around 10:00 last night. police say when they got to the scene, the victim was already dead. so far no word on a suspect or motive in the shooting. >>> and this morning the prince george's county fire and ems department is mourning one of their own. funeral plans have been set for firefighter john uh-huh derrick ward is live with more. >> reporter: and the signs of grief are obvious here at fire station 30, landover hills. you can see the ambulance that firefighter ulmschneider would have served on. it's obvious here and also obvious in the hearts of his colleagues. now, ulmschneider, a 13 year veteran of the fire department, was killed on friday responding to a call in which firefighters often respond to but rarely, rarely do they end like this one. >> he had a medical condition that may make him vulnerable to a medical emergency. and so firefighters discussed it and decided to move forward with going in through the front door. they're trained to announce themselves before doing so.

prince george's coun courthouse. meg apan mcgrath is live with how it will impact proceedings there today. >> reporter: well, it will have a big impact on proceedings today. you can see the courthouse over my shoulder here. they're having electrical problems because of a pipe that burst inside the building. and here is the situation. the courthouse in upper marlboro both the circuit and district courts the entire building will be closed today. they're having electrical issues because of a pipe that broke. it's ongoing. the repairs. so they are forced to close for the day. there will be no proceedings, so if to come to the courthouse, it isn't going to happen today. d.c. water and other water companies around the area they have been getting tons of calls about frozen and broken pipes. d.c. water has fielded 4,000 calls in just the last ten days with regard for that. now there are some things you can do to prevent your pipes from freezing. especially those that run along good peer ex walls. experts suggest run your water just a little bit of a trickle, that flow of water will help pre

breaking news at 4:31. prince george's county police have been spending the night at a home along 100th avenue in glendale because of a violent home invasion that has one man in the hospital this morning. news 4's megan mcgrath joins us live from just outside the home with the latest. megan, good morning? >> reporter: well, eun, police have wrapped up their investigation here at the house. but take a look at the video that was shot a little while ago of the activity here on 100th avenue. now police are not releasing a lot of information. this is being called a home invasion and what we know is that a little after mid nate two men made their way inside a house on 100th avenue in the glendale. inside that home two residents, a man and a woman had a confrontation. shots were fired and the male resident was hit in the torso. we are told us in critical condition at this point. it's unclaer whether or not the people who entered the home stole anything, what they were doing in that house. that's still part of the investigation. but they were seen running away after the shooting occurred. no wo
