are heading to that hospital. about 8:00 this morning. this courthouse, the lloyd george federal building. a brand new, relatively brand-new. built about five years ago. one of the first courthouses to be built in the country that follows the new security standards. so when you go to this courthouse is very difficult to drive up to. there is only the curb. they have to back away from the street. the courtyard in front. right when you get into that lobby area you go through security. the shootout began inside the lobby and came out into the street. the gunman has been shot and killed. only three people were involved. two officers and the gunman. all three were taken to hospitals. of course, we now know two are dead. one of the security officers and the gunman. as for clearing the building, what we have heard so far is listening to the police scanner and keeping in touch with people on location, they believe at this hour that the building has been cleared, and that there are no other gunman involved. as you know, anytime you have a breaking news story the information comes fast and

today praising his career on the senate. we learned that former president george w. bush called mrs. vicky kennedy this morning and passed on their condolences. senator ted kennedy worked with president bush on a child left behind. most people you talk to in the senate said that despite being very liberal, very partisan, he was also old-style politics. politics that really is not up on capitol hill as much as it was. he could get a compromise because he had the cover of been so loved by the liberal side of the democratic party that he could move to the center and convince people. senator john mccain, the republican from arizona, said when senator ted kennedy said something. martha: you wonder who will take his place in that role. you have this great old guard of senators. a lot of people feel that business is not done the way it used to be done. you think of all those guys who were able to have their arguments with the other side and sit down and have a beer after word, that feeling, who will be able to maintain or perpetuate that kind of feeling on capitol hill? is it gone? >> that

savannah georgia earlier this morning by the medical examiner with george's bureau of investigation. it was done up there because the body believed to be that of summer thomson was found right across the state line. that happened yesterday afternoon, and the share this morning said definitely somers bought because of two things. m1, the clothing she was wearing matches that described by summers' mother as well as a very distinctive birthmark found on the leg of the dead child in a landfill. that apparently almost identical to that of summer thomson. we are expecting that to happen. the home across the street is where summer grew up, where her family remains. they are devastated, and across the street, word has disseminated that this is no longer the search for a missing job, but the search for a child killer. everybody, strangers in the community coming by here, many bringing their children who are tearing up, dropping off notes, cards, stuffed animals, flowers, candles, and this memorial to the little 7-year-old plaza memory just continues to grow by the minute. trace: i know they
