waters of hilton. iowa state took on texas tech in their big 12 home opener last night... georges niang played just 4 minutes in the first half after some foul trouble. but the team made up for that, bulding an 10 point halftime lead. the red raiders closed the gap to 1 in the second half. niang and matt thomas helped lead iowa state to a 76 to 69 win. we weren't quite as good defensively, so glad we won. that's how league play is, it's not going to be pretty some nights. the cyclones have a few days to to town. that's back at home on saturday. tip off is set for 2 p-m. the home court was little help to the drake bulldogs... drake and indiana state at the knapp center last night. c-j rivers had a career high 13 points in the first half. former valley star kyle abrahamson was right there with 11 points. but the bulldogs were down by 22 at half, and they couldn't recover from it... the sycamores win, 79 to 69. drake will try for their first conference win on saturday. tip off at northern iowa is set for 7 p-m. the panthers will be glad to be back home after an ugly loss on the road.

morning. drivers are already noticing the effects of moderate flooding in that area... george flagg parkway... from southwest 30th street to park avenue... is closed. no word yet on when it will reopen. the rain is also dampening a holiday tradition for many metro families.... i certainly have personally been involved in a number of floods in december and january and february... but they're ice related, not rain related. "jolly holiday lights" has closed for the season... the annual event ended operations nearly 2 weeks early because of flooding. that's because it jeopardizes the safety of volunteers... and risks damage to the more than 100 the "make a wish" organization's budget. "jolly holiday lights" is its largest fundraiser of the year... but officials are staying positive... 1,100 cars already went through. last year, at the end of all of this, we had 28,000 cars go through. that tremendous support, we don't take for granted. this is our 20th anniversary. please continue to support us - our kids need it. in the past... the event has closed temporarily due to blizzards or vanda

sooners answered with buddy hield, who took back the lead. it didn't last long, because georges niang started to heat up... and iowa state headed into halftime looking good. the second half turned out to be a game of runs... matt thomas sunk a couple of 3 the sooners wouldn't go away, and tied it up again. but with under a minute left, morris sunk a two pointer for the win... final score, 82 to 77. this was huge for us, you know a lot of people doubted. we just wanted to show everybody that we're real. we did that today and took a step in the right direction. it means everything. my days are winding down in ames and it means everything to give these fans this. the cyclones will hit the road for their next game saturday... they'll tip off against t-c-u at 3 p-m on e-s-p-n-u. the cyclones are the third iowa team to knock off a number one this season... in november, northern iowa upset north carolina. then in december, iowa defeated michigan state, even though the hawks were favored in the game. that was right before the rose bowl. iowa state may see a jump in the rankings after la
