yellow box is a severe thunderstorm warning, no longer a tornado warning, for king george. that goes until 12:30. impressive line of showers and storms with the cold front, and you see it right here. this is the line we are watching. the stuff behind -t we are not worried about it. the line itself, this is giving us the torrential downpours and occasionally some of the damaging wind gusts and the tornado warnings that we have had have been doppler indicated, but certainly you have seen some of the damage that has resulted from that. just want to zoom in quickly, because this line of intense weather coming toward baltimore now, northern prince george's county through dc and getting into western charles on the east side of fredericksburg. the tornado warnings have been canceled top? >> reporter: yes, but we are concerned about the next two hours or so from i-95 eastward. if you have folks flying in or out of town, you might want to check, i imagine they will be dancing around these storms for the next hour or so. this is down to the south around stafford and fredericksburg, this origin

george's county. a man died after being thrown from his vehicle in brandywine, maryland. it happened on floral park road early this morning. police say speed may have been a factor in the crash. the victim's name has not been released. >>> it was a nightmare of a commute this morning in ridgefield, new jersey where a semi truck dangled over an overpass. long delays ensued after the truck crashed, caught fire and barely hung on to the bridge. the driver somehow ended up in the water and was later rescued by a helicopter. it's unclear what caused the accident. >>> a new infrastructure project will affect thousands of commuters in the district. vdot says the heavily traveled 16th street bridge at military road northwest needs to be replaced sooner rather than later. >> this bridge has reached about the end of its useful life. it's got severe concrete der tearation. -- deterioration. >> paul hoffman is a ddot civil engineer heading the project. he says there are cracks in the bridge, the steel is rusting are building up. hoffman says cdot hopes to begin reconstruction in flee to four mon

. this is the first time in 51 years she's evacuating. >> i've been through george, been through andrew, been through wilma, but i'm not staying for irma. no, not happening. >>reporter: and in miami residents filled up sandbags. state officials are urging residents who live in low-lying areas in miami-dade county to start evacuating as well, although it is not mandatory. kenneth craig, cbs news, miami. >>> category 5 hurricane struck the u.s. and irma could potentially become just the fourth storm of that strength to hit the states. and only one hurricane on record contained winds stronger than irma. that was alan back in 1980. it packed winds of 100 miles an hour. it was downgraded to a cat dwoar 3 storm before making landfall in brownsville, texas. now, the only category 5 hurricanes to hit the u.s. is andrew is 1992, 65 people were killed and the storm caused $27 billion in damage. i remember this one in 1969, 269 people were killed when camille struck, but in 1935, the labor day hurricane was the strongest storm of its kind to hit the u.s. . it was the very first category 5.

. prince george's county fire department spokesperson says the man fell about 10 feet while working on an upper floor. he was taken to the hospital in good condition and we could actually see him walking to the ambulance under his own power. >>> the father of sarah and jacob hoggle is expected to ask governor martin o'malley to help bring his children home. the children have been missing since september 7 when their mother allegedly disappeared with them. she is now in a psychiatric state hospital but isn't saying much about the kids. their father troy turner has urged maryland state police to issue an amber alert. police say this case does not meet those qualifications. today he's going to make hi plea to the governor. -- make his plea to the governor. >>> opening statements are under way in the trial of a man accused of trying to kill an alexandria police driver. the cab driver is charged with attempted murder. he shot officer peter leboy in the head when leboy tried to pull him over. the trial was delayed till now because lawyers argued over bashir's mental capacity. leboy survived

george mason university prince william campus a few hours ago after receiving a bomb threat. the college students are on spring break. more than 80 high schos olerare taking part in the governors school program. they were there and evacuated safely. there was another threat at george mason's fairfax campus last week but it's still too early to tell whether the two threats are related. >>> a mid-morning house fire in hyattsville injures three people plus one of the responding firefighters. two men and a 5-year-old got out of that burning home on 38th avenue before prince george's county firefighters arrived. but they did suffer some injuries and were taken to the hospital. a firefighter was also burned as he helped to put out the flames. >> the wind certainly contributed to this fire and the fact it accelerated the fire flow through the house. >> all the injuries to the firefighter and those people inside the home are believed to be minor. cleanup crews remained at the scene as officials look into what sparked the fire. >>> a mayday call went out early this morning for a firefight

deadline by close of business day wednesday. all prince george's county students must have the proper vaccinations are a they can't go to school. this year that number is high and the school system is trying to get the word out. nikki burdine spoke with some concerned parents this morning. >> reporter: 3 thown, that's the number -- 3,000, that's the number of students who have not been vaccinated in prince george's county. if that number doesn't change by wednesday, that's the number of kids who will not be in school come thursday. >> it's very important to have that because if you don't, what will the kids do? it's not their fault. they're children. we have to make sure things happen. >> reporter: this man's kids have been vaccinated since day one but other parents are worried. >> if they don't get it, they can't come to school and learn. >> reporter: the majority of kids in violation are pre-k, kindergarten and seventh grade. compare that 3,000 number to what's happening in montgomery county. they only have nine students not vaccinated which is frustrating to parents. >> this is sch

separate crimes in prince george's county. two others are now fighting for their lives. this all started with a triple shooting in capital shooting. nikki burdine has the latest. >> reporter: a violent morning in prince george's county that all started here in this parking lot in capitol heights. three people were shot. one of them died. at about 12:30 a.m., police say two men and a woman were shot outside the heritage knowles town home. a man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. another man was pronounced dead at the scene. another neighbor heard they -- said they heard gunshots, something they're not used to here. neighbors say there are several squatters in the house in front of the crime scene. it's not clear who the shooter was. and just about four miles away and less than five hours later, another homicide. a man was found ?0with trauma his upper body on cooper lane in hyattsville. >> i haven't heard of anything like this in quite a long time. we've seen incidences but not quite to this extreme. >> reporter: the man's body remained on the sidewalk uncovered for hours.

fire department in prince george's county. the charles county sheriff's office says this started with the report of a man threatening to slash the tires of his girlfriend's car. the chase to stop him ended at the county line. about an hour later, officers say they spotted fowler again, and this time they caught him. officers say fowler was easy to spot, he was driving a fire department pickup truck. >>> it's been over a month since hurricane maria devastated puerto rico, killing 49 people on the island. dozens of people are still listed as missing, and there are also large areas without electricity. yesterday, the u.s. senate approved another $36 billion in relief aid for both hurricane and wildfire victims. with parts of the island still without water or electricity, many puerto rican patients have made their way to the mainland. one tiny patient even land san antonio, texas, needing serious medical treatment. andrea martinez has the story. >> reporter: imagine bringing your baby boy into the world to learn he has congestive heart failure. then, a storm hits, knocking out the very re

quickly melted. we have flood watches in an area of flood warnings in dc, prince george's and howard county until 2:00. as expected it's moving out of here and thankfully we will take it out because we don't need more of this messy weather. temperatures jumped. we woke up to frozen everything and then the temperatures jumped 20 degrees in two hours. slow to arrive above freezing but still melting out there but everyone else starting to see good melting. into the 40s now and light showers hanging around. through the beltan prince george's county and everyone else trying out. still a little cloudy but we will cease on this afternoon. flood watches and warnings in place, the area and break green is where you should be concerned if you are on the roads. we will look ahead the next few days and you will like what you will see coming up in a little bit.>>> before the sun came up the roads and sidewalks were solid ice making a rough start for early commuters. now that the rain has started and moving out the ice is melting but still big problems across the dmv. we have the storm track
