selloff? >> the selloff was a reaction to what has happened in china overnight. the latest red flag is china economy is not going gangbusters. a manufacturing report showing more contraction in china. so not just the european markets but here in the u.s. especially after the main index fell so much, so fast. they stopped trading again. and closed the market so everybody could take ra breather. the china trouble could spill over in the u.s.. it's a reminder how interconnected the picture is. china is not only one of the biggest training partners we have a lot of u.s. companies, household names with big exposure to china that get a lot of the revenue from china like apple, wal-mart and tiffany. so they are concerned about the profits to come and the china economy continues to slow down. alison: sure. like you said, we are so interconnected. looking big picture here and a lot of us think immediately about our long term retirement funds. things like that, that took a hit last year. do we think this is a trend or maybe just a blip in the overall big picture? >> like with anything, it dep

was halted for the second time this week in china. stocks there lost more than 7% in the first hour of trading. fears about china's economic health are fueling the loss. alison: now a developing story in france where police shot and killed a man wielding a meat cleaver after he tried to enter a police station. it happened north of paris and the man wore what turned out to be a fake suicide belt. image on the isis flag on paper was also found on the man's body. this happened one year to the date of the "charlie hebdo" massacre where they stormed the office of the magazine. 12 people were killed including some of france's most famous cartoonists. five for lives lost in the subsequent attacks attacks in fe in the following days. al-qaeda in the arabian peninsula claimed responsibility for the attacks. jonathan: covering metro today in a series of attacks on passengers in the last few weeks. so some riders are expreing security about riding the rail. stephen tschida has details for us. stephen: beefed up police presence here but it isn't necessarily because of what is going on, on metro

sanctioning or china or russia that were still abiding ing by the deal because from their perspective, iran had done what they're supposed to do. it becomes more difficult, i think to undo something that's working than undo something that's not working. and, when you are not responsible for it and i thi you can call it a terrible deal. when you are responsible for the deal then preventing iran from getting nuclear weapon, you are more likely to look at the facts. that's going to be true in other circumstances, for example, the paris agreement. there is been a lot of talks about the possibility of undoing this international agreement. you got 200 countries that have and, the good news is that what we have been able to show the last five-six or eight years it is possible to grow the economy really fast and possible to bring down carbon emissions as well. it is not just a bunch of rules that we set up. you got in solar panels and creating jobs. you got the big three automakers who have seen record sales and are over achieving on the fuel efficiency standards that we set. turns out that p
