went down overnight in a storm on china's yangtze river. at least five people have died and hundreds more are missing. let's go to erin o'hearn live in the satellite center. good morning. >> good morning, tam. a desperate search and rescue effort going on in china and rescuers are scrambling to try to find survivors inside that wreck. now, there are reports that some of those rescue teams heard sounds coming from inside that capsized ship so right now they're trying to get into the cabin where they believe those people are. 18 survivors have been rescued so far and that's a number that we've seen rise over the last hour, can which is reassuring but again, five deaths have also been confirmed. and the ship, the eastern star went down around 9:30 monday night during a storm. the survivors include the captain and chief engineer who have both been taken into custody by police according to china's state run news station. the rescue efforts were initially complicated by bad weather. now, it is believed that most of the 458 passengers on board are over the age of 50. there were also 47 crew

east of kathmandu near the border with china. it was a deep earthquake which means much less damage at the surface. so far just reports of about four deaths. now there have also been five strong aftershocks. people there describe it as feeling like they're constantly in rough seas and people are out in the streets they're shouting, they're crying. already they're shaken up again by that 7.8 quake that hit nepal on april 25th. that one killed more than 8,000 people. >>> back here police are looking for suspects in the attack on a school bus in west philadelphia. it happened as special needs students were on their way home from the school of the future.
