getting ready since monday unloading 4 million pounds of steel from china. the work was originally scheduled for thursday but the workers got ready a day earlier than expected so all the work is going to begin today. they are going to be busy working around the clock hoisting the newest tower section into the air bringing the tower three-quarters of the way to its final height of 525 feet. >> when we start lifting later on this week, there is a little bit of concern that we can have traffic slowdowns on the bridge when this work takes place. but motorists have been fantastic. with the two other lift we haven't seen a real problem with it, so we're hoping for the same thing. >> reporter: caltrans asking motorists not to get distracted by the work. drivers on the upper deck will be able to see the huge steel parts being hoisted up on the tower. crews hope to finish the tower by christmas. caltrans predicts that the project will be done by late 2013, 24 years after the loma prieta earthquake. so caltrains hoping to have a news conference at 10:00 to fill in us on some of the details a
