victims, a woman from china died from her injuries after thursday night's accident on christmas three- point road. the woman was arrested on suspicion of felony duics and hit and run. >>> other bay area headlines, the murder rate in the city of richmond is at its lowest level since 2001. richmond has had 18 homicides this year. it was nearly three times that just three years ago. the contra costa times requires law enforcement and community efforts. they say it's made a difference. richmond has 190 police officers today. that's up from 150 in 2006. >>> and nurses set to begin a 24-hour strike this morning at hospitals. it is the latest in a series of short-term strikes by the california nurse's association. the strike will affect seven bay area center hospitals down in santa jose. all of the facilities plan to operate with replacement workers. leaders in management are at odds over benefits and staffing. the strike set to begin on this christmas eve in about an hour. >>> and even if it is a holiday tradition, the preyer air equality management district is asking people not to light wo

apple in china over the past cult weeks. pro view electronics is trying to lay claim to the ipad name in mainland china which apple is fighting. doesn't want an injunction to be able to sell it. now pro view amended its lawsuit in santa clara saying that it wants to void its agreement to sell the ipad name for global rights to apple back in 2009. that would give proview a lot more chance of getting a bigger pile of money. it remains doubtful as to whether or not they can actually void that agreement and a judge in china will rule tomorrow on an appeal by apple against an injunction against selling the ipad in china. just the latest legal battle for apple. >>> economic reports out this morning not that good. durable goods down 4% in january biggest drop in three years. the reason was that a lot of firms ramped up their spending in december to take advantage of an expiring tax credit, tax break on capital good purchases. so that led to that drop. home prices fell back. we have seen improving housing markets signals of late but the kay schiller reports shows in the top 20 markets home price

, not selling as many iphones as expected and losing production time at a factory in china. jason brooks is here, how many of these things do they have to sell before they are happy? >> apple is a victim of its own success, yet analysts that are just having while the expectations for the company, they sold more than 5 million in the first three days, that is 1 million more than they did last year but we had calls for a least 6 million to be sold and upwards of eight and 10 million iphones. that is the kind of thing that pushes their stock up into these territories around $700. that figure coming in lower. but still a very generous number. there are other issues for apple regarding their factory in china. a riot involving up to a few thousand workers, lots of injuries. the plant shut down so there are worries about a possible production issue that could affect apple and a lot of other companies. their shares are down 1%, back under $700. tivo doing very well this morning after settling a patent case with verizon over d v r technology. verizon will pay them $250 million including an

higher commodities prices. yahoo is dealing with a major headache in china. over the past couple of days, a lot of mysterious words have been issued over the movement of one of its key companies. it's an online payment company called ollie pay which is a subsidiary of an e-commerce join called ollie faba in which yahoo owns a 43% stake. yahoo also owned a big part of ollie pay and the company was mysteriously moved off of yahoo's books onto the ceo of ollie baba. and yahoo's only saying they did not know that this happened and that company is worth $1.7 billion for yahoo. another case of having to deal with very cryptic messages and business decisions in china. yahoo is dealing with that now. investors are not happy and stock hit hard over the past couple of days, down again this morning by another a little over 5% right now. overall the stock market is down. the dow lower by 16 points. nasdaq down by 9. s&p is off by one. oil prices up just a little bit still under $100 a barrel. >> all right. thank you, jason brooks with kcbs and cbsmoneywatch.com. have a good weekend. >> you, too
