dbq: 54 iow: 56 meranti is hitting taiwan and is making its way towards china. the typhoon has been upgraded to a category 5 storm. it made landfall this morning, bringing wind in excess of 150 miles per hour. there's also a possibility of severe flash floods and mudslides. for that reason, hundreds of people in taiwan have been evacuated in the southern part of the country. as you can see more pictures and video of damage have been coming into the newsroom this morning. dubuque police say a man is a lift a car off an injured bicyclist. it happened monday afternoon at the intersection of marion street and concord court. police say mike larkin, who is 73, was riding his bike when a car hit him, pinning to the ground. nathan hall was passing by when it happened. he grabbed a car jack out of the driver's car to lift it off larkin. officers say hall is a hero. hall says he did what he had to do. includes this one near dysart. investigators say ty tried to smuggle the corn seed to china. the city government in marquette is losing several leaders all at the same time. the mayor of the clayton county resigned, along with a city council member and a member of the board of adjustment. recently elected mayor dave schneider stepped down over a zoning rights dispute. it started when a man wanted the city to re- zone a property in town so he could put in a mobile home. but the city denied it, saying the plan went against marquette's zoning policy. the dispute later went to court, and a judge ruled against theheity, therefore allowing re- zoning. just recently, the city council decided not to appeal the court decision. schneider says he resigned because city leaders were not able to enforce the zoning policy. the monticello school district wants another bond vote to improve its schools. there were a lot of opinions on the options at a meeting last night. supporters want a new middle school attached to the current high scscol. a much bigger plan that included the middle school and
