today but america's top economic officials are still in work. they're in china to meet with the country's foreign minister. the visit is supposed to bolster relations between the u.s. and china and speed up the world's economic recovery. washington and beijing have accused each other of trade protectionism, and economists warn that could slow a global recovery. >>> president obama is getting ready to start pushing for a $100 billion business tax credit. he will outline his proposal wednesday during a speech on the economy in cleveland. an aide says the business proposal is a key part of a limited economic package. it would reward companies that develop new technologies domestically and preserve american jobs. >>> just like that, the giants are right back in it. this morning they sit a game behind the padres. the giant also spend labor day in arizona. yesterday in l.a. juan uribe hit this two-run home run in the seventh making it 3-0. the giants are taking advantage of a horrendous slump by the padres. they have lost ten straight games. the rockies beat them up yesterday. the pad

china that made your ipod is getting bigger. scott, hard to wrap your head around how big this thing is. >> fox con said it will hire 400,000 more people to add to its payroll of 900,000, that's 1.3 million employees total. not everyone working in the same factory, but it's factory complex has more people in it than the city of oakland. many live right there on the factory grounds in company-owned apartment buildings. its largest factory called fox con city has 400,000 people. oakland about the same size. there's another factory in hunan province that has about 300,000 workers. we will call that about the size of stockton. the total work force is 1.3 million or will be after they finish hiring. that would be about the population of san diego. fox con doesn't just make apple products t makes dell and hp products too. an industry analyst at apple is catching up to demand for the apple ipad and the iphone 4. people are getting it within just a couple of days of ordering it. and certainly fox con is getting ready for the next apple product with all these hirings. back to you. >> time is

and rain is heading for china now. tropical storm lion rock is gaining strength as it mixes with a typhoon also making its way through the central ocean. it dumped over 6 1/2 inches of rain in south taiwan. winds gusted up to 67 miles per hour. taiwanese officials are warning residents of mud slides and possible build damage. >>> this morning, a volcano continues to erupt in indonesia, forcing villagers into cramped emergency shelters. mt. singabung started erupting over the weekend. after a second blast on monday, the reach is on high alert. some residents say they can no longer plan to live in the villages. >>> a doctor is dead this morning after trying to sneak into a boyfriend's home by going down the chimney. she had been drinking and tried to break into the home by climbing feet first down the chimney, but she got stuck and slowly suffocated. earlier that day she had tried to force herself into the house using a shovel. >>> police are hoping security video will help them nab two suspected puppy thieves. take a look. police say this man and women stole a chihuahua puppy from a

your commute is rough, right? check out what some people in china had to go through. a train crossing a brej fell into the water leaving two trains dangling. t passengers got out safely. chinese news agencies report heavy flooding loosened the bridge's support. >> wow. >>> we have been talking all week about book to school, so scott is here to talk textbooks. >> textbooks, very expensive. the average textbooks cost $70. that's just average. some will cost $200, $300. college kids buy the book, maybe they get to sell it back to the school at the end of the year. the u.s. general accounting office says the average college student can spent $898 for textbooks every year. now, there's an outfit in santa clara, they rent textbooks. you don't even own them. the ceo says you will save a lot of money. >> we have come up with a model that allows us to reuse the textbook from student to student to student until the edition is done. >> dan rosenswag will talk more about the idea this sunday on "press here." he used to be the ceo of guitar hero and before that yahoo!. he encouraged kids

around south asia in china flooding adding to a year of misery. at least 1,000 people have died so far this year from rainy weather, floods and mudslides. nowhere is it worse than in pakistan. whole villages swept away. at least 1200 people have been killed. perhaps as many as 2 million are homeless. various aid organizations including the united states are racing to the area. not just to make sure they can help but to make sure they're there before the taliban and other fundamentalists. this has been a political issue as well who can help the most. another video from pakistan, we don't know much about what you are seeing here, other than it is the rescue of a small child. lots of villages being swept away. the big worry now that the floodwaters are largely through, brent, is disease. you will have a lot of disease with lots of dead bodies, et cetera. that can contribute to even more fatalities. >> a lot of times it's not the initial disaster but the fall-out afterwards. >>> people living in palo alto will vote on a measure that would prevent the city from laying off firefighters.

after an explosion at a fireworks factory in northeast china. the explosion initially killed nine people, eight others died when the blast reached another factory nearby. two people walking by the factory died as well. the blast was so strong people felt it five miles away. more than 150 people were injured. >>> an update on that grizzly bear that attacked campers near yellowstone national park last month. the bear was thin and had intestinal parasites. the late-night rampage july 28th left one man dead and two people with serious injuries. the grizzly was captured a day later at the same campground and euthanized. the bear's poor body condition was due to a vegetarian diet made worse by parasites. she had not eaten human food in the last two years. >>> it is being called a miracle, 130 of 131 people survived a jetliner crash in colombia. when you see the plane you'll be surprised, too. the plane broke apart as it slid on the runway. investigators are trying to figure out what caused the plane to cash. it did happen during a thunderstorm. five american citizens were on that plane.
