-and-p- 500 closed 31- points down. poor manufacturin g data from china helped drive the sell-off. china's main stock market had to temporarily halt trading today after stocks in shanghai took a seven-percent plunge. the problems continue to mount for troubled german automaker volkswagen. the e-p-a and justice department are suing volkswagen over its emissions cheating software. the federal agencies accuse the automaker of violating u-s environmental rules. the agencies are seeking up to 18 billion dollars in civil penalties. volkswagen has admitted that its diesel cars had illegal software installed to cheat emissions tests. about 500-thousand volkswagen and audi vehicles in the u-s are affected by the scandal. if you like how gas prices ended 2016. triple-a says the price at the pump will stay relatively low it estimates an average price between 2-25 and 2-45 a gallon. last year's average was two gallon. less demand in january could push prices even lower - perhaps another 10 cents in coming weeks. it sure was a foggy start to the work week. will the trend continue? ron's full f

concerns over china's economic standing are fueling the stock market's decline. a tennessee couple who bought one of the three winning powerball tickets picked up their check today. john robinson said he bought four tickets at a grocery store near their house on his way home from work on wednesday night. he's from munford, tennesse, a city of just 6- thousand people. only three businesses sell powerball tickets there. walmart announced today it plans to close 269 stores worldwide by the end of this month. 154 of those are in the u.s.. and most will be smaller walmart instead plans to focus on super- centers, neighborhood markets and e-commerce. the company has not said which stores will be closed, so we don't know if any in siouxland will be affected. but almost all of the stores being closed in the u.s. are within 10 miles of another walmart location. two astronauts aborted their spacewalk today after water leaked into one of the men's helmets. an astronaut reported a small water bubble inside his helmet, which quickly turned into a film of water. mission control terminated the six-ho

massive chain reaction accident on an expressway in northern china. forty-eight vehicles slammed into each other at seven o'clock yesterday morning. police said the fog and a slippery bridge contributed to the accident. the pile up also caused a massive traffic jam including hundreds of vehicles. police say only one driver was hurt. a pro skier survived a death-defying fall while filming in alaska. ian mcinsh was skiing for the movie "paradise waits" in april of this year. he was making his way down a mountain when he fell into an unseen five foot trench on one turns. while trying to regain his footing, he lost a ski and cartwheeled over 16- hundred feet down thth mountain in less than a minute. mcintosh pulled his airbag which helped softened his fall. well, for the second week of november, we sure can't complain about today's weather. but big changes are e the way. ron's full forecast is coming up after the break.
