economic reports out of germany and china overnight. stocks likely to struggle near five-year highs. the s&p 500 is up 14% so far this year. in central china, a foxconn plant is closed today after 2,000 factory workers were involved in a riot overnight that led to the smashing of workstations there. 40 were injured and a factory working tells cnn police in groups of ten are now patrolling the sprawling plant. foxconn is a big supplier of apple. a state of suicides prompted a review of working conditions at the foxconn plant. >>> ten straight days of falling gas prices, the current average price, $3.81 a gallon. if oil prices stay about where they are, prices at the gas pump may fall another 5 to 10 cents. >> christine, thank you. >>> the search just ended for the day for some mountain climbers who are missing in nepal. at least eight of them were killed yesterday when an avalanche hit the world's highest peak. an american climber who were injured but alive told the filmmaker that two of his colleagues are missing, including the man with which he shared a tent. what is the latest on this se

. it's a signal to russia and china that the united states has of then alternatives. russia has diplomats going in there. so there are other alternatives. none of us expect much to happen from the russian diplomatic mission. i hope i'm wrong. but it's unlikely that they're going to be able to convince bash sh bashar al-assad to slow down and take it easy. the third message of the target iran. i think in iran the ayatollah still don't really believe that there is a military option. and without trying to derail the negotiations, the discussion, the u.n. inspection, the sanctions and so forth, syria is a kind of a proxy for iran. when bashar assad falls lots of things will change in the middle east. and the iranians certainly know this. when the word is out that the u.s. is looking at military o x options, big signals. >> let's show a map of the neighborhood, if you will. walk me through sort of what strategies militarily, you're in these types of meetings, what are you looking at? >> if you're going to do anything -- first of all, you always have your basic kit bag. you can do a n

dealing with north korea that involves six parties. the north and the south, china, russia, and the united states and japan. and so to break that dynamic is a bit unusual. in many cases, we've requested that that dynamic be broken down in terms of the chinese, who truly maintain a degree of influence over north korea that none of the other parties today. albeit that's somewhat imanishing. so it's important that the united states step up and say, look, here's a potential break to this logjam, in that north korea has clearly indicated that it doesn't respond to diplomatic overtures. and it clearly is only going to do what it wants to do. so i think the fact that the secretary has said, look, let's take a different course is important. but the preconditions are absolutely essential, and again north korea has indicated no effort on their part to open up, try to achieve a degree of transparency in the development of their nuclear program so all the assessments that we're making are based on intelligence that's been selected through technical means. we have no means of penetrating in term
