the bidens, jacob blake and his family. you spoke to joe biden about his role as a consoler for your documentary on joe biden. what did you make of these contrasting visits. what did you make of it? >> tells you a lot about both men. joe biden went to kenosha, walked through burned streets, met with police. didn't speak with the family. the family didn't want to speak with him. joe biden went to kenosha, met with community, lawyers, family, then jacob blake over the phone. and there's a part of joe biden, and i think it comes from his own experience with personal tragedy, he said to me his own experience with stuttering which he says made him a more empathetic human being. while it might be difficult for a lot of people from any walk of life, much less a presidential candidate, to have that kind of conversation with somebody obviously in pain from his hotel room. joe biden it comes very easily. he's almost a pastor in many ways. i think these are conversations that he just doesn't shy away from. >> charles, you're a long ti

jacob blake family while marching in washington, here in kenosha we know now from jacob blake's local attorney that he is no longer shackled to his hospital bed. he has been shackled his whole time by the leg to the bed but that has changed. we learned from his attorney that he is no longer being guarded by police because warrants out for his arrest have been vacated. the family of jacob blake joining thousands in washington rallying to give a voice taken away at the hands of police. >> you must stand. you must fight. not with violence and chaos. >> authorities revealing new details now about jacob blake's past and the circumstances surrounding the shooting that left blake paralyzed. the sheriff saying he has come to the hospital bed because blake has felony warrants for his arrest including one from july for sexual assault and the restraint highly criticized by blake's family. >> i walked into the room and he is paralyzed from the waist down. why do they have steel on my son's ankle. he couldn't get up if he wanted to. so that is a little overkill to have him shackled to the bed. tha

let's get back to jacob blake. his attorneys tell me democratic presidential nominee joe biden shared a great deal of empathy with blake when the two spoke over the phone during the former vice president's visit to kenosha today. what do you make of biden in your state today? >> certainly as compared to what we saw two days ago it's night and day. i've had a chance to talk to jacob's mom and dad and they're just extraordinary human beings, lots of empathy, lots of hope for the future. obviously they've had lots of hard feelings about what happened to their son, but at the end of the day they're calling for changes in policy. they want to make sure that the state of wisconsin hears that. so i think from what i saw from vice president biden he did a great job reaching out. but that's him. he hears the empathy, he understands people. you compare that to two days ago when the candidate trump was in wisconsin. first of all, this state is still struggling with the coronavirus. i think the president hopes we don't talk ab

>> reporter: very controversial moment, in fact, those boos of jacob zuma, the president of south africa. also, people were making this sign and anyone who watches sports knows that's to make a substitute. there is a lot of anger here in south africa with the current administration. south africa has moved on a long way since apartheid. many of those racial divides have been closed, but there is also a big problem with poverty. less than 1% of white south africans are in poverty but that number for black south africans, nearly half of black south africans so that divide is still there. many people i've spoken to through this week expressing disappointment that the current anc government hasn't done more to bring those people up. but certainly, the predominant feeling this week is one of mourning and of celebration of this great man, nelson mandela, and certainly, people will be looking forward to the next several days of commemoration in pretoria and at his hometown later this week. >> i was expecting that stadium to be packed, jam-packed. i know the weather was bad, it was raining, but t

there are no plans for the president to meet with jacob blake or the family of jacob blake. we'll have to see if something on that front does develop. >> you're there on the ground for us in kenosha, do you get the sense that the president's visit will ease tensions there or increase tensions there? this is really obviously a sensitive moment. >> just meeting with law enforcement, seeing the damage that has happened here, and not try to look at what this meant for the family, then, you know, that could cause more tension. i will tell you that over the last couple nights, the protests have been much smaller, we saw a huge protest today with a couple thousand people that was absolutely peaceful, because it was led by the family, they're whole point is, they believe in peaceful protests, they do not like seeing the destruction. they know what that means. they've been calling for the very beginning for peaceful protests, note for destructive violent protests. this is also coming at a time when there was the worst violence that happened here, deadly violence at the hands of a 17-

this is the case where jacob blake is the reason why that jacob blake was shackled to his hospital bed. you will recall that there was a warrant for his arrest regarding this case. and of course he was shackled to the bed. and then in the last week the sheriff's office removed those shackles. so it is for that case that he was in court today. he did it from his hospital bed. you can see he was wearing a blue shirt, a tie. the case is going to continue. and he'll be appearing again in september. and of course he did this from the hospital bed. this is all behind -- as we are waiting to learn more information from investigators here on the shooting, the attorney general, as you recall, told wolf blitzer -- william barr told wolf blitzer that it seems to indicate there was justification here for the officers in shooting mr. blake saying that blake was armed and that he was in the midst of committing a felony. we have yet to learn from the state attorney general on their findings in the key investigation. the key question is the knife. was it used in any threatening way? the family dispute
