news tonight related to that mountain lion attack on a 6-year-old boy. kpix 5's betty yu is live for us in cupertino with details. betty? >> reporter: well, veronica that mountain lion was shot and killed around 10:30 this morning when it was about 65 feet up in a tre in the area where the 6-year-old boy was attacked on sunday about 130 yards away. now, let's show you a new photo from the california department of fish and wildlife. this is the photo of the dogs that picked up the scent of that cat this morning. they took off after it for about 90 minutes. trackers found fresh prints of the male mountain lion in the area this morning. you're taking a look at those photos right now. that cat is in sacramento tonight where the wildlife lab is located. now, an official says right now they will test it for rabies and they will also determine through dna whether this is in fact, the same cat responsible for sunday's attack. teams have been actively search for it since then. fish and wildlife says it is confident that this is the same cat in part because of its behavior. a spokesman says it

hospital after a mountain lion suddenly strikes. >>> good evening. it happened this morning near the winery at coopertino. juliette goodrich is there. >> reporter: he was rushed to the hospital from this location. i have an update on him now. he is listed in fair condition. at the hospital right now with his mother and father. now, this mountain lion attack happened a mile up the road here on this popular hiking trail. along the ranch open space reserve. it happened around 1:00 in the afternoon. the sheriff department immediately closed off this hiking trail and other speeding trails in the area. the state department of fish and wildlife here and they brought in search dogs so they called them cat dogs b four of them. and a federal trapper is here in the area looking for that mountain lion. they say they will euthanize it. they have a piece of the boy's clothing, his shirt, to match dna. now, here is an interview with travis jerrad who explains what happened this afternoon. >> he was somewhat dragged through part of the brush. multiple family members then came to his aid, fought off

month later. >>> and developing news in the south bay where a search continues for a mountain lion that bravely attacked a 6-year- old boy. and it is extremely unusual authorities say but not taking any chances with public safety. kpix kit doe reports, crews have been searching around the clock for the cat. >> reporter: the game wardens say the mountain lions typically return to the scene of an attack and that's why the search crews stayed out there overnight and they hit the trails at sunrise. all of the trails had been closed since the attack happened on sunday afternoon. and bright red warning signs block each entrance. a group of about four dogs their handlers and a few game wardens are out there following scent trails and paw tracks. the attack happened sunday at 1:00 p.m. the 6-year-old boy was just 10 feet in front of his parents when the cougar pounced and dragged him into the bushes. the family rushed to him and chased the cat away making loud noises. the boy was seriously injured on his head and neck. wardens say this kind of behavior is much more aggressive than normal. >> wh
