. host: edward from florida. good morning. aller: good morning. i'm so glad to be on c-span. my question is we commonly speak in terms that we know that the police officers do a very dangerous job and we have a lot of respect for what they do because we know they are protectors. but the problem i have is why is it so difficult just to we'd out the bad cops? when you have the leader of the police from new york saying that the officer that strangled the guy is an eagle scout, he's a model cop. and your eyes are telling you that doesn't look like a model cop to you. how do you weed out the bad cops? guest: that's a great question as well. again, i think it has to go back to the initial selection process and be more selective doing psychological tests to see if they have the attributes and personality traits to serve urban communities as well as we have to stop this illusion of object tivity that we have toward police officers. i would love to say that i'm objective at all times but again i harbor my own biases. police officers are human. so i think we need to recognize that and hav

time warner cable partners, c-span's to these -- city to her staff explored way goes -- waco's rich history. ♪ >> waco is the home of dr. waser, when a pharmacist mixing together some different concoctions in the back of the old corner drugstore. where the pharmacy was located. he came up with a fragrant smelling mixture, that he likes very much. used it in some medicine, but eventually, it was sold as a syrup with carbonated water in it, across the soda fountain counter. at first, it which is called a waco, but later, they gave it the name dr. pepper. it became very popular in drugstores, and soon, other drugstores in this area were asking -- can we get some of that syrup you are selling in your store to use? sure, people here said for a price, we will make a barrel of it up. send a wagon over, and we will send it to you. the popularity grew as other pharmacies and soda fountains around the area began using the waco syrup, which eventually became dr. pepper syrup. later, as a got beyond wagon range, the rails came into play. waco being a railroad center, it was easy to transport

would be a good thing. from outside cleveland, dave is on the phone. caller: good morning, c-span, and the wonderful c-span audience. i would just like to make a comment that probably has something to do with where we are at today, at the end of world war ii, rosie the river came out of the factory and she came home to run the family, rich or poor, white or black, and she became chairman of the board of the house. that remained basically constant until around 1974, when we had the massive oil price shock start to begin here to you all remember we used to pay about $.22 per gallon for gas and from there, it went to over four dollars. that and the chairman of the board of the house had to enter the labor market and come he for the limited number of jobs. everybody, butwn you needed two where one used to do it. my comment is, if we could somehow, and i am not saying i know many house debt than they love to be have stats, if we could not have us competing against each other, and take advantage of the productivity gains, it would be a better place for all, and whether the man stays home or
