we want to read the tpp. no more promises. we want to read it. >> if you stop fast track, if the president doesn't have trade promotion authority, is there a consensus among labor leaders that you can stop the tpp? >> why is this the only country out of the 12 that has fast track? none of the others have it. none of the other countries have ever had fast track. it comes from a belief when the united states does trade deal we give away the store because it is about foreign policy and corporate profits. it's all a giveaway. the only way congress is going to pass these deals is to fast track it. no other country has it. we want to join the mainstream. read it before your pass it. >> why would we want a trade deal with brunei? >> no good reason. >> they have sharia law, undercut wages. the sultan is one of the richest guys in the world. it just doesn't match up with america, does it? >> in no way does it match up. it matches up with a state department view that says whatever it takes, whatever sacrifices of american workers, that

i think she's going to have a problem with tpp. i suspect hillary supports tpp. i think on some of the other issues you unpacked i think hillary is not going to be as friendly as some on the progressive side of the ledger want her to be. i think she'll largely get away with it unless folks like you and others hold her feet to the fire to see exactly where she stands but at the end of the day i think she gets by. >> what do you want to hear from hillary clinton on monday? how far does she have to go? >> monday is about talking about what do we do in urban settings and how do we turn around places like detroit where the economy has passed some of these places by. i think we need to talk about the strategies that we need to develop the middle class and redevelop middle class in detroit. >> you can't redevelop urban cities in this country if you're going to support trade deals that's going to cut jobs. >> let me be really clear. ed you're right. the entire labor movement is against tpp for lots of different reasons. some in the labor movement are for keystone. some a

. >> every union leader in this country has said the tpp is a direct shot and a threat to the middle class. hillary clinton was flanked by lee sanders and randy winegarden. it would have been the perfect time and setting for hillary clinton to side with labor, but she's on her own schedule. today marked the final two scheduled public appearances on hillary clinton's calendar. it's most likely the last time we'll hear from clinton before she announced her next steps in early april. let's hope there's a lot of transparency when it comes to trade, jobs, and the middle class. joining me tonight jonathan alter and genevieve woods. >> the unions understand that there are such stark differences between democrats and republicans now. wasn't always the case but now there really are. in the general election between hillary and whoever the republican nominee is they'll be very strong for hillary. it's in the meantime when some of these other candidates they're not going to get money unless they're against tpp. hillary is going to be bobbing and weaving for a year and a half on this. i was just

president obama is still pushing the dangerous tpp, transpacific partnership. "the new york times" published an explosive article revealing the tpp investment chapter. tpp would allow foreign corporations to sue the united states government for actions that undermined their investment expectations and hurt their business. companies and investors would be empowered to challenge regulations, rules, government actions and court rulings before what? tribunals. how many times have we covered this on the ed show? senator warren says taxpayers would clean up. >> the company could skip the court and go br an international panel of arbitrators. if the company wins the ruling cannot be challenged in u.s. courts and the the arbitration panel could require the american taxpayers to cough up millions even billions of dollars in damages. >> so it took wikileaks to get this document, not anybody in the united states media. we've been following the developments of the transpacific partnership since last summer. now we're in the 11th hour folks. it gets really politically hot.

tpp. would be one of the largest trade deals in our country's history. president obama doesn't want your representative, your congressional member to lay a finger on it. the white house is pushing for trade promotion authority. they want the ability to give the stamp of approval. congress would be restricted to just an up or down vote no negotiation, no debate. only big corporations have had a say in this 12-country negotiated deal. workers know it's as bad as nafta and worse the nurses united say fast tracking would be a real bad deal for public health, a public health disaster. tpp limits the import and access to medicine. labor unions have never been more unified and united. they of course claim this trade deal would be a job killer. environmental organizations are also rejecting fast track authority. the agreement weakens our safeguards when it comes to climate and trade enforcement. the house is on recess. and the senate is stuck, according toen senator orrin hatch. we may not see a debate until april. where is it right now? senator sherrod brown of
